All of us here have had the privilege to travel on Uncle Sam's dime. Or if you serve(d) for another nation, there dime, euro or what ever your current currency is. What glorious accomodations did Uncle Sam send you to. If you were there long enough, what kind of improvements did you make. Two rules: 1. No in-laws 2. Marines can't use 29 Stumps

For me, it had to be St. Mike's. A little slice of heaven the Marines called home and thankfully for me, just a stop over (several times) just south of the Mixing Bowl sse of Baghdad. No mail, mailman got blown up, no laundry, he got blown up and no honey dipper, yeah, he got blown up as well. Notice a trend here? But it had a scenic little creek running right thru the camp. MRE's were top notch too. Plenty of bullets as well (thanks Gunny, I was running low (not joking)).
btw, I am not a Marine, but have a soft spot in my heart for them. QRF from St Mikes helped us turn the tide in an ambush one Easter morning.

Hmm, if 29 palms is out of the question, then how about her 'south of the border' cousin yuma, AZ?

Although honestly, Edinburgh in Afghanistan probably took the cake for me, for a combination of reasons that the internet doesn't need to know.

Actually, I really landed on my feet, so to speak. I put in for Korea. Sounded exotic at the time but the Army sent me to Germany. I was assigned to 14th Avn at Schwabich Hall. They sent me to Grafenwoehr where I was detached to Rohrensee Kaserne (Sub Post Bayreuth). When they said Bayreuth I thought they said Beirut as in Lebanon and got a little nervous.

Stayed a short time at the O-Club in downtown Bayreuth until they came up with quarters for a couple of female en route air traffic controllers on “the rock.” We had 2 1/2 helicopters (one for parts) based there. Our primary mission was monitoring recon ‘copters along the border but a typical landing advisory frequently consisted of winds, altimeter and “caution tanks on the end of runway x and sheep on the end of runway y. We’d lean out the window to check the weather. Had several German pilots land because they were shocked and amazed to hear a female voice on the radio.

One of the funniest things I ever saw while leaning out the window was a small group of Howitzers chasing a big German rabbit off the end of the runway. Couldn’t say if it got away or not.

Mine is a tough decision. I was in Khobar when my building was blown up by terrorists in 96, so that was pretty shitty but Kunsan AB was a shithole too with the sewage ditches running through the streets and base.

@unediblekorn, I gotta ask this: Never being to Khobar Towers, was it a shithole before the blast? Glad you made it our alive. I have never been to Korea either. Stories I have heard from those that have been stationed there have run the gamut from awesome to I'd rather live in the projects in Chicago than in Camp {you fill in the blank}, Korea. I am making the assumption that Kunsan AB is in Korea.

Guess that means squids can list ships? If so, CV-64 for ≈4 years, including 2 birthdays and a Christmas in the IO. If not, got's to be NAF El Centro, CA, winter home to the Blue Angels (BFJs).

And the Nav seriously frowns on making improvements to their ships and buildings, unless you wear at least 2 stars. Then it's sort of a requirement.
