THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
1st episode of Nichijou was just as quirky as the OVA, if not quirkier. It is following the manga if what I'm remembering is right.

Some of the stuff that's happening feels extremely random though, like the random explosion, with flying slices of salmon, and so on. I could actually say this felt almost, if not more, random than Arakawa, and that's tough to do. :o

Mio's reaction to the flying sausage was hilarious, though that's the only gag I can remember real well right now. The random detachable pinky toe was unexpected too, and kind of weird x.x;

That's not how you're supposed to play clay target shooting! She almost killed her dog with that double-barrel shotgun.. o_o

It's a .357 Magnum Colt Python 4-inch model! Pretty powerful stuff... (I think this scene might get some kind of censorship in US streaming version...)

Moe!! XD

S-Video Port!!

Now, it's a USB port!! Hakase must be quite keen to computer industry standards!

This is one of my most anticipated shows this season, but of course, for a completely different reason compared to shows like C and Deadman Wonderland. KyoAni has demonstrated time and again that any adaptation they do will end up being better than the original source material, and they can pick up a work no one has known beforehand and push it to skyrocketing fame - see Haruhi, Lucky Star and K-ON.

My expectations were quite high for a comedy 4koma from KyoAni, and this episode didn't disappoint. This show is so freakin- random, but it did make to laugh. What surprised me was that I'd expect this type of humor from SHAFT more than KyoAni. To be honest, this feels like a SHAFT show, but with KyoAni-quality animation.

And the OP. KyoAni just out-SHAFTed SHAFT in the OP. I keep getting the feeling KyoAni is just trying to troll SHAFT...xD

EDIT: Subs are out by Doki! http://doki.hologfx.com/2011/04/03/nichijou-01-released/

I just realized "KY (空気が読めない人, Kuuki ga Yomenai Hito, a person who can't read the situation)" from Helvetica Standard was the word of the year in Japan in 2007. The word now feels kinda outdated though...

It's nice to see two of my favorite anime studios, KyoAni and SHAFT, competing each other for creativity. Anyway, Denpa Onna's OP music was leaked recently and it's pretty hilarious (and quite addictive) to listen to it, and I'm also looking forward to new Maria Holic's OP theme. Hopefully, SHAFT will also come up with some good OP theme animations.

The riding the got to school thing was pretty funny and the interactions between the girls provided a lot of laughs. I'll definitely enjoy this one.

When the food kept slipping out of her chopsticks, it made me think of the meatball and Misao from Lucky Star.

Funniest part is where she presses the fire alarm. And one of the eyecatches sounded like a Vocaloid.

"Happy New Year"
"Me too"

OP + ED are awesome.

The voice actors for Yuuko and Mai don't have many roles, it'd be nice to see the popularity boost from this show give them some more. I loved them in Seitokai no Ichizon

Looking forward to more of this show. I'm pretty surprised it's 26 episodes though, I was expecting 13.

Absolutely stunning animation.

Everything was completely fluid and there was nothing that looked amiss..you gotta hand it to KyoAni, despite making silly slice of life shows they really do a good job on animation.

My head asploded when I heard Hidamari's principal is my Nichijou's principal.

Hakase and Nano are still my favorite duo, but Mio is cute too. I thought her existence of a love interest thing would kill it for me, but he is a cool guy, so I don't mind.

liked the OP and ED

The episode is so random, but in a good way. Another successful slice-of-life series done by kyo-ani. Keep up the good work.

Whoooaaa this show is pretty trippy. KyoAni picked a winner this time although I still would've preferred FMP. The flying sausage scene was pretty damn lol. This show had me at the moment of the huge explosion. Grade A animation from all the money milked from Haruhi and K-ON no doubt. This show definitely beats out K-ON.

The OP was really well done, the animation is top-notch as usual for KyoAni. Not a very laugh-out-loud funny slice-of-life, but I suppose it was enjoyable - at least better than the OVA. The sausage part was rather funny though :D

By the way, I'm guessing they don't have fire drills as frequent in Japan?

This show is so random!

Robots,explosions,riding goats to school...

But it was pretty interesting. Best part was when Mio was jumping rope and duck hunt. I wonder if the show will keep the same formatting for the rest of the eps. I really liked the OP, does anyone know when a full version will be released?

I was wondering what that part on her back was for. Its just for releasing her toe.....how useful, well I bet they'll have an episode where it's useful. This series kinda reminds me of Lucky Star, but it's a little different.

This looks very amusing, as expected of Kyoani :D Great animation, nice soundtrack, cute character designs, random humor, I love it :3

also that one scene where Yuko got her sausage after it bounced off the floor and saying its okay because of the "three-second rule" (Sanbyorou) reminded me of a certain scene from Lucky Star with Misao XD

So many highlights in this episode:

- the janken part was sooo cute :3
- of course the sausage
- the goat-guy who looks like keima ( Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai )
....

really enjoyed this episode, can't wait for more awesome animation.
I like the storys with hakase, nano and sakamoto the most.

The resembles with Pani Poni Dash and Azumanga Daioh is very clear the art is the same the atmosphere is the same and the comedy is the same and even the characters are the same.
And i think this will be a very enjoyable tho sometimes odd Anime like those two.

Undoubtedly the best Slice-of-Life anime to air so far this year.

Absolutely stunning animation, totally feels like Azumanga Daioh 2.0 (except handled by a way better studio) with a little but of Yotsuba thrown in there.
