As expected, Hellsing Ultimate IV turned out to be extraordinary. It may not be subbed yet while I write this, but that did not stop me from journeying through the blistering cold, all the way from my barracks to some internet cafe thing outside the camp, fighting polar bears and Russian spies...Well, it didn't take more than ten minutes, but I'm allowed to whine a little, ja?
Anyways, after downloading for nearly five hours, I was finally allowed to witness the glorious bloodfest of Vol. IV The animation was brilliant, to be expected, considering how horribly long time they used making it. Maaya Sakamoto did a great job as Rip Van, and Alucard, Integra, and Montana shone with their usual brilliance.
And so, the wait for voulme V officially starts... :__:
Bernadotte was disappointed by his lack of lines in the episode.
Pickup tip of the day: Impress the ladies with your dirty humor!
For Integra, eating jam was always messy business.
Death by Eating Squad.
In his youth, Walter enjoyed setting fire to churches.
"Launch EVA Unit one."
Schrödinger was disappointed to see that the Phaser he had bought from Ebay turned out to be nothing but an ordinary remote.
Ceras would appreciate if you wore pants more often.
The all new burning SR-71, a perfect addition to any epic battle scene.
Yeah I thought it was extremely badass. Although they covered volume 4 and 5 of the manga it doesn't really matter to me. The animation just keeps getting better and better. Why would you have to walk thorough the cold to an internet cafe?
Arkhan said: Makes me wish someone would also make other anime adaptions independent from TV like Hellsing Ultimate.
Yes, I am sure you are thinking about Berserk, eh? Of course, they would have to wait until the manga comes closer to completion...and for berserk I think that's going to take a long time yet...
I'm going to wait for the subs before I delve into episode 4, but those screen caps make me itch with excitement. As for berserk ending... I think i'll be into my 40's by the time i get to see that, lets hope Miura lives that long and so do I for that matter lol.
With the wait being so long inbetween volumes, I guess mostly anyone would watch it raw. the manga's enough for a guideline through it.
The wait was indeed worthwhile, as Hellsing Ultimate just keeps getting better and better, with Vol. IV as a more than justifiable proof. The unaltered violence is really one of the, let's say, 'key points', in Hellsing. Getting it censored would ruin it completely.
Alucard and Rip's battle was absolutely amazing.
The moment when Alucard caught the musket bullet with his teeth was hilarious, yet amazing. And seeing the rifle going through Rip's body is really fightening, but not impossible due to Alucard's off-the-charts strength.
I gotta admit tho. Maaya Sakamoto did Rip's role more than perfectly. The singing was simply amazing. If anyone else besides Maaya did it, after seeing/hearing, I guess it just wouldn't sound like Rip Van Winkle.
Yeah, I just got back from watching it RAW and it was really really good. Although it felt dialog heavy and not having read the manga I was trying my best to understand what was going on. If someone could put a synopsis in spoilers I'd be very greatful. But yeah I'll probably download it again when its subbed and buy the r1 when someone announces they are going to release it, because if any former Geneon title is going to still be released in r1 its Hellsing Ultimate.
Maxwell interrogates a Bishop about how the church aided Montana in his escape from Germany to South America at the end of WWII, and accuse the Bishop for cooperating with Montana in order to be rewarded with immortality.
Integra and Alucard on the phone, Integra orders Alucard to return to England because of the Queen ordering a meeting with the Round Table. Alucard asks Integra whether she enjoyed the last battle, Integra gets angry.
Montana meet up with a Colonel of the Letztes Bataillon, who demands to know what exactly Montana is doing, and why he won't turn him and the other senior officers into vampires, and lashes out at Montana. (In the manga, Montana provokes the Colonel to attack him) Then the Werewolf unit appears, and Zorin warns the Senior Officers not to be too rude, as Millenium was originally created by Montana, while they just happened to show up later, even though their rank might be higher
Ceras and Pip discuss how they are going to leave Brazil, as there are no flights available. Alucard tells them they're going to steal a plane, although this scene seems to have been altered a bit, and it seems they are discussing how to deal with the coffins, and Alucard telling Pip about his coffin; "This is my last domain. I was born and died here."
Then, Anderson enters the scene, and after a breif exchange of blows, tells them that
The Vatican will provide them with a plane, and that they should leave while he still controls his desire to kill them.
The interrogation of the Bishop ends, with a bullet from Heinkel.
Alucard arrives to the Round Table meeting, and talks with the Queen, whom he have obviously met before. He tells briefly of his past encounter with Millennium in WWII.
Schrödinger appears, explaining that he is "everywhere and nowhere", and have come as an envoy from the Major. The screen flickers, but finally shows Montana as he orders the execution of the remaining Senior SS officers. He greets Alucard and tells Integra that he has no purpose of his declaration of war, and when Maxwell tells him he have lost it, he replies; "Fortunately, your god guarantees my madness. But may I ask? Just who guarantees the sanity of your god?".
He then declares that his primary enemy is neither the Vatican nor Hellsing, but Alucard
Schrödinger and the TV is shot, and the Queen orders Alucard and Hellsing to defeat Millennium.
Schrödinger greets the Major as he returns to the bridge, telling him he should go on a diet, as he took so long time just walking down a corridor. Doc tells Schrö not to be so rude, but Montana does not mind.
Rip sings some German WWII song as the helicopter approaches the carrier, meets the British traitors and ask them what it's like to be vampires and betray their nation and kill their friends. She tells them Millenium welcome them with open arms, but that a new order have been given, and they will be fed to the fishes.
The Millennium soldiers awaken and Rip shows off the newly decorated deck of the ship
Alucard have a conversation with Walter which seems to be either new, or something from earlier volumes that may have been omitted in the earlier OVAs.
Integra and Ceras have a discussion about Ceras' reluctance to drink blood. Integra cuts her finger and orders Ceras to lick it clean.
Anderson on the phone with Enrico, talikng about the alarming reach of Millenium's influence, and feeling insulted because his enemies are only humans aspiring to become vampires by cooperating with Millennium. Maxwell is overjoyed that Millenium is targeting Hellsing, but at the same time disappointed that they do not recognize Iscariot as worthy enemies, and plan to show the Vatican's worth by striking at millennium from the side at the appropriate time. The pope had issued an order to assemble the Knight Orders, and that Section Matthew, the Holy relic Bureau (Remember chapter 66?) have readied weapons to vanquish Vampires. Claiming that their enemy is Mars, the god of war, Maxwell orders Anderson to return in time for the showdown.
Integra meets with Lord Penwood, and is briefed about the situation considering the hijack of the Aircraft Carrier "Eagle". Integra, Walter and Alucard devise a plan to have Alucard board the Carrier with an EXP-14LIE, a modified SR-71 spy plane.
Rip shoots down incoming aircraft while singing "The rising of the sun is my fear", the second movement of the opera "Der Freischütz".
Sensing Alucard's approach, Rip panics, and along with the crew, tries to shoot the SR-71 down. (The music in the background is probably from "Der Freischütz")
Alucard release his restraints, and probably quotes the opera: "Heed me: If thou wouldst dress the dead and play amongst them, thou shall join their ranks!"
As the plane tears through the Eagle's deck, Alucard appears before Rip, and she remembers the Major telling her how she resembled "Kaspar" from "Der Freischütz" with her magic bullets, but that she should watch out for "Samiel", who would no doubt come to claim her, as he claimed "Kaspar" in the opera.
The Millenium troops desperately tries to kill Alucard, but to no avail, as he tears them apart with ease.
Alucard asks Rip "Now, what will you do?, what will you do, Rip van Winkle?" she answers, "My warhead will make no distinction between riffraff", trying to force Alucard overboard with her bullet. Alucard catches her bullet with his teeth and claims "Gotcha. I have caught you, Rip van Winkle".
Which was certainly no lie.
Watching her final moments, the Major says that she did well, and that the operation was a success. He salutes the First Lieutenant, and says they will meet again in Valhalla (How?? Silly Nazis, they are not Vikings! Odin would never allow dogs like them in his Einherjer army! T__T)
Then there is Montana's speech...
And since I cant be arsed to write it all, here's the relevant pages from Volume 4 Chapter 9:
This is garb. There are still no subs out. I kinda wanna just sub it myself but I don't know Japanese and I would just be putting the dialog from the mangas.
Rozenfag said: I haven't read the manga yet, but I'm planning on starting where this OVA ends (assuming the story is as close as people say it is). Does this cover number 4 and 5 of the manga, or just 4?
It covers vol. 4 and seven (of ten) chapters from volume 5.
quitearush said: Where are you stationed? I wouldn't think most anime fans would go into the military, but you did, that's pretty cool.
I didn't volunteer -___-
Norway utilize forced conscription XD
And I got stationed in Bardufoss, which is pretty much as far north as you can get without stepping over the Russian border...I'll be finished by summer, and it did net me some much needed extra study points so I can go straight to studying law afterwards.

It really doesn't take that much time to read it all, and if you get the manga along with the bonus story, you will get to see the background of Heinkel and Yumie as well, so I'd recommend you read it all from Vol.1. Mangatraders is brilliant for DL and ATU BOTI is your friend if you want to read online.
Finally got to watch it - amazing. There are still little bits of the animation I don't really like (the eyes can look ridiculous sometimes - like Zorin, the first time she appears...wtf), but overall an amazing, amazing episode. Loved the music, too! Not surprised it was so good, considering how wonderful Maaya Sakamoto is - Japanese, English and now German. :D

The scene when Alucard kills Rip van Winkle was so cruel and violent it makes me happy that the creators are not restricted by television censure.

Agreed.
I remember a discussion about this manga chapter ages ago, when someone theorized that Alucard was actually raping Rip. Whether or not that was Hirano's intention, the intensity and the violence of that scene animated was incredible. Rip being dominated like that was a little hard to watch. I suppose in some ways it is rape - complete with penetration.
Hey all: I stumbled across a really solid set of subs, including the german names for military positions and even translation of the german in Rip's songs.
Ep IV was pretty amazing, though again not as character-heavy as I could have hoped. I feel like they really stepped it up a notch with the animation, though. And admittedly they did better with the characters. I'm gonna update my review this evening, I think.
All-in-all a great addition to the series, raising the bar yet again. Sooo good.
Arkhan said: Yup episode IV was pretty awesome. Although long dialogs are vexing when you have no idea what they are saying.

Well worth the wait ^_^. Thankfully with the OVAs following the manga I got the jest of it. But we need more slaughter then dialog!
You sire took the words right out of my mouth! Thank god they let the animators with plenty of freedom for gore that's what we expect from Hellsing! :D

Not quite:
1. Hellsing I (February 10, 2006)
2. Hellsing II (August 25, 2006)
3. Hellsing III (April 4, 2007)
4. Hellsing IV (February 22, 2008)
And 4th has been delayed, like 2 times? I'm going to keep fingers crossed for October - November ;p prob. not going to happen.

Are they sure that they will continue with Hellsing Ultimate b/c the company is out of business? I sure hope they do.. I want to know what happens next..
And umm...do anyone know where to get a good set of sub files? I tried fetching myself a subbed version, but the quality of it was so inferior to the RAW I already have, so I just deleted it...
