Additional Cast of 'Versailles no Bara' Movie Announced

The official website of the Versailles no Bara (The Rose of Versailles) anime movie revealed eight supporting cast and a character trailer on Friday. The new anime adapting Riyoko Ikeda's historical drama manga opened in Japan on Friday.

Louis-Joseph: Sora Tokui (Blend S)
Marie-Thérèse: Minami Tanaka (Kakegurui)
LaSalle: Atsushi Tamaru (Nanatsu no Maken ga Shihai suru)
Jean: Daiki Yamashita (Boku no Hero Academia)
François: Yuto Suzuki (Servamp)
Pierre: Junta Terashima (Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai)
Duc de Guémene: Wataru Takagi (JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 4: Diamond wa Kudakenai)
Launay: Hironori Kondou (Ore dake Level Up na Ken)

Ai Yoshimura (Ao Haru Ride) is directing the movie at animation studio MAPPA. Tomoko Konparu (Kimi ni Todoke) is penning the script and Mariko Oka (Jigoku Shoujo) is designing the characters. Hiroyuki Sawano (Shingeki no Kyojin) and Kotha Yamamoto (86) are composing the music.

The historical drama manga ran in Weekly Margaret from 1972–1973 and was compiled into ten volumes from 1972 to 1974. Shueisha later reprinted it in 10 bunkoban volumes from 1977 to 1978. Ikeda drew a four-volume side story between April 2013 and February 2018. Versailles no Bara sold a cumulative 20 million copies of its volumes.

Tokyo Movie Shinsha produced a 40-episode television anime that aired from Fall 1979 to Summer 1980. The Seimei Aru Kagiri Aishite (I'll Love You As Long As I Live) compilation movie premiered in May 1990.

I am still intriguing, can they really adapt the entire manga in one film? If so, how much they have to cut out?

@RobertBobert according to ann, they styled it like a Broadway Musical.
I'm guessing they'll play 1-2 songs and timeskip constantly.

@watsym You think they really will use the tactics of justification of any development behind the scenes by Time Skips as lazy authors?

Props to them for hiring actual seiyuus for this movie. It's refreshing considering most anime movies nowadays cast random celebs.

The animation is anything but smooth. Its clear where the budget has been spent on this one (Seiyuus) compared to that. Its a bit of a shame because this series already looked pretty good in the 79 incarnation.
