Did you know that earlier this year there was a major earthquake in the Noto peninsula region of Japan?

Magnitude 7.6, on a New Year's Day. Over 400 dead and 170,000 buildings destroyed...

That's Mitsumi's hometown, so they're raising funds for the reconstruction project, which seems to be still ongoing.

Apparently, all we have to do is read Chapter 1 of the manga from their website (for free). For every person reading through it, 100 yen (~65 cents USD) will be donated to the fund.

I don't even read Japanese, but it's nice spending 3 minutes just looking at the art and contributing in some tiny way.

So far, 57,338 57,468 people have visited apparently, which would add up to quite a sum.

EDIT:

As of January 20, they've hit their goal of 100,000 visitors, which would result in a 10 million yen donation.

You can read from the official site ("Skip and Loafer and Noto") here: https://skiloa.kodansha.co.jp/

Crunchyroll News coverage: https://www.crunchyroll.com/news/latest/2024/12/23/skip-and-loafer-manga-noto-earthquake-reconstruction-support-project

Also, once you finish reading, it looks like you can continue reading through the first 3 volumes of the manga.

The event ends January 22, 2025, according to Crunchyroll.

If too many people take advantage of this, the manga publishers have to find a lot of money from somewhere. Why not just donate directly with actual money?

@FutoiOtaku It’s up to 10 million yen. That’s not such a large amount of money for Kodansha.

True, and it buys them promotion so it’s not entirely a loss either. But donating 55p uk money per read is not really very effective (better than nothing though) so anyone who really cares could do more with a targeted donation.
Also, those too young to have the means of supporting directly can at least do something so it’s good in that way. I try to be balanced in my thinking, but maybe don’t explain enough.

Update:

They've hit their goal of 100,000 visitors, which would result in a 10 million yen donation.

There's still about a day left to the free access to the first 3 volumes (in Japanese, though). Go give it a read if you're interested.
