1. Animation and artstyle is little different from original mononoke and ayakashi.
2. Kame is hot.
3. Kusuriori got hotter (no homo).
4. The CGI blends really well with 2d but noticeable (sometimes) and a little choppy (sometimes).
5. Animation looks really good and fluid.
6. Story is a little bit worse compared to other arcs.
7. Song for opening was cringe and the choice to use it between the main fight was cringe as well.
8. Asa looks exactly like one of my classmates (except she has black hair and brown eyes). (Please don't roast me for this one because I am just sharing stuff I noticed in the movie so I thought I should include this one)

What do you guys think?

opening song was cringe but in the fight it wasn't that bad. the story was dissapointing but since all the movies are connected the latter ones might carry this one

the fight wasn't but they used the song which was cringe in fight that made a little bit cringe. The song was cringe the fight wasn't.

I actually quite liked the song both as OP and in the fight and it felt fitting so it is more of a taste thing.
I actually think the story was better than some arcs and easier to follow than most arcs in the original series.
Asa and Kama were both hot but liked Asa better (mainly due to her personality and behavior).

to me, the song wasn't something that goes with mononokes theme. so in the op it felt cringe but when they played it during the fight scene, it was kinda hype

the song wasn't cringe but it was quite disappointing...I also missed the sounds of drums (I don't know if they were drums) that appeared in the middle of anime episodes, they were original and gave the mononoke vibe. I liked the movie, but the sounds weren't what I expected 😭

I think what you actually want to do is write a review or open up a Youtube Channel.

This is the forums.
This was meant to be space for discussing relevant topics that can be talked about.
It may seem like it, but this is not a space where people were patiently waiting for your take on things.

people are always shitposting with random stuff in mal forums so I thought I should tell everyone what I noticed the movie. You remember people complaining about bad animation in Jujutsu kaisen s2 and people being sad about an episode in dandadan or not being sad about it. Also a lot of baits aur other type of stuff. Some posted India winning T20 world cup in one piece forums. My post isn't that bad compared to those. Also it is good to discuss stuff like these because it will keep the fandom alive.

I liked kame more due to her funny behaviour. It is hotter. Both are good but kame looked better due to her jawline (it is better than asa) and teeth (asa mostly didn't show her teeth but kame didn't did and I find white and clean teeth really attractive) and her hair (I like black but still violet was better than blonde). But to be honest, kusuriori (medicine seller) is the hottest (no homo again). He even got hotter than before and his canines, makeup and clothes look really good. Haha maybe because I am attracted to jawlines and teeth (for asians I will include cheekbones, for European I just like the jawlines and teeth).

It is cringe compared to ayakashi and mononoke openings and endings. Ayakashi opening was epic and ending was sad. Mononoke opening was epic as well (and had a traditional vide to it) but I forgot the ending but it was surely good. The songs and music in this movie are really disappointing. The movies also felt kinda fast paced which made the story feel worse or maybe the story was just worse (in my opinion). Toei definitely had a budget similar to this movie(I don't know but…) but the art had a different vibe. This one is good but I liked that one was better. The only betterment I noticed is kusuriori (medicine seller) getting hotter. Other than the art was colourful. The movie kinda lacked the suspense and vibe the original ayakashi and mononoke had.

The song reminded me of Noragami maybe that's why I didn't find it that cringe...

Your thoughts are pretty spot-on in highlighting 👏

1. It's not unusual for a movie adaptation or spin-off to tweak its style, especially with changing animation trends and technologies. As long as it keeps the core aesthetic, which it seems like it did here, it’s an interesting evolution.
2. If a character resonates aesthetically, that’s always a win. 😁
3.Many fans have commented on how his character design subtly evolves to be more striking in newer adaptations.
4.Mixed media in animation is always tricky.
5.That’s always a treat in anime movies, especially with something like Mononoke where dynamic visuals are such a big part of its identity.
6.The arcs in the original Mononoke were masterclasses in storytelling, so setting a higher bar is inevitable. Even if it’s slightly weaker, it sounds like it still delivers enough intrigue.
7. It’s always a risk to try to integrate a bold musical choice into critical moments. Sometimes it lands; other times, it feels jarring.
8. at least Asa has a distinct look to stand out in your memory.

@nientiendo1986 It's actually the same composer as Noragami's OST. I also thought it was similar so I looked it up.

I enjoyed the story. I watched this movie with a friend and we spent some time thinking about and figuring out how all the story elements fit together with the Japanese mythology. It was fun, he put on Detective Conan music and joked that this was a detective movie but without the detective explaining all the tricks of they mystery at the end, so we had to do it ourselves. Here are our deductions:

The monster is a Kasa-obake. The mythology afaik is that 100 year old tools that have been in continuous use become benevolent spirits that bring prosperity to the family, while tools that were broken and thrown away shortly before the 100 year mark become resentful youkai that wish the family harm for denying them their ascension. This is the Ayakashi that became a Mononoke. It's physical core is the little umbrella that was thrown away from the old doll the previous scribe was forced to discard when she joined the harem. It transforms the corpses of it's victims into rainwater for this reason as well, since it's an umbrella and connected with the well of discarded things. It's however not a sentient thrown away umbrella, as in the lore of Mononoke, one of those would just be an Ayakashi and not a threatening Mononoke. This apparition is bound with the spirit of the previous scribe. First she was forced to throw away her precious doll and with it the umbrella, but the really important thing she was made to throw away was her clumsy maid friend as she was moving up the ladder to become scribe. When she reached that position, it wasn't worth it due to all the things she had thrown away, and she became a shutin, died and was eventually thrown into that horrible well as well. There we have our Truth, the origin story for why a human soul became merged with an Ayakashi. But this being still lay dormant until the same story began to repeat itself. A new aspiring scribe moved into the harem, and bonded with another clumsy maid. Mirroring her own story, one rose through the ranks quickly and the other was threatened by senior staff and got close to being cast away. This Mononoke only manifested itself to defend the clumsy maid and warned the new scribe aspirant that she shouldn't repeat her mistakes. It only manifested fully when the same thing happened all over again.

I think this is a good Mononoke story. You have the Japanese mythology intertwining with the personal tragedy of a human and it's all a sort of detective story that needs some thinking to figure out.

One thing that surprised me was how enthusiastic the medicine seller was this time around. He was super giddy to catch that Mononoke, not as stoic as we've previously seen him. He also casually dropped some lore on himself that he's a member of some mythological group of guardians. I guess that dispels any mystery about who this guy is, despite the show insisting on not telling it to us clearly, but I don't think having him explained was all that necessary. Still, just a minor thing.
