I still don't know if every single action he takes is predetermined by the system, but I still think he could've thought of using better words at the end...
@Autoparts_22 not every action is predetermined

Episode two of the Red Gate arc where the team got trapped in the cold snowy world. Jinwoo gained a new shadow knight from the death of Hunter Kim an A-rank hunter and was named Iron. A superb episode and this is just episode two.

Great animation, but they somehow skipped something... I think.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

So the auto-translate and the voice tagging him not a target is part of the system designating him as Player, but what about the glitch in the Barca's dialogue, is that the system overwriting his script or something else?

He let Igris kill Kim, extract and resummoned him as a stronger Shadow all in that span of several seconds under the cover of that snow/blizzard thingie. Beaten Barca by gangbanging him. LOL Too bad he couldn't extract him being perhaps too high level, I hope his dagger has good specs/stats after all that effort.

At least Baek still shows some restraint not pushing Jin for more info and humility when he reminded him of his rescue of a quarter of their members from the gate. Hwang most definitely will go straight for his throat when he came out of the gate if he was still there.

Funny scenes with Iron looking at Igris but Igris turned away so he looked for the shadow mages' support instead! LOL And the other Jin misinterpreting things in the end.
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

@Ryuseishun There are limitations but in the anime everything is rushed (like 1.5x compared to the manwha) and there are many cuts. The same happened in the 1st Season. A few details would have only needed 1 extra episode at the end but I think not being Japanese-sourced means having less consideration.

@Tsuki_ They could. They rushed everything like in the 1st season. Going slower and adding a 13th episode would have made it perfect. The same is happening here, with many details being cut :/

@ejleon Is a friendly way to call someone else. Used when you are close to someone. Honorifics are widely used in Japan and they change according to how close you are to the other person starting from surname+honorific and ending by calling someone else by name (you need to be really close for that)

Yes, there are scenes where the dialogue is shortened or the explanation is not explained in depth, but I don't think focus should be put there. Not everything has to be presented through dialogue, if it has or will already been presented to you visually. A-1 Pictures focused mostly on highlights of the show which is epicness, coolness, scaleness and limitness, which this series possesses and wants to entertained viewer by it. At least that's my expression of Solo leveling.

Since he couldn't get the awesome Head Elf, do you think he took any of the others in case he ever needs archers?
@LucenProject HI didn't and the reason being is that they were already weaker then his regular soldiers so no point.

Sometimes, you should let the action do all the talking and this episodes had it all in spades! =)

Sung did acknowledge that his opponent was stronger, but with his careful and calm planning while using Igris and newly acquired Iron to help him out, he was able to pull off a convincing victory. His attempts to use his abilities to recruit his opponent did sadly fail, which did disappoint him, but being able to take down all enemies while protecting the weaker hunters was, for me, the more important victory here.

It did lead to a funny misunderstanding moment with him and Han when Sung's buddy arrived to pick her up. After what happened in the dungeon, Han definitely has a thing for Sung, which he so far doesn't see her that way. Thanks to that, his response with "So?" when his friend mentioned about Han's age had me laughing. XD

A great episode overall.

Sung Jinwoo's group had a whole deli going on at the camp fire, intestinal-casing sausages and all; they were eating good that past week. I wonder what bear meat tastes like.

That leader Kim is pissed at them for being well-equipped, while he literally left them to die and even bragged about it to the other teammates before they got wiped out...the audacity of this son of a bitch.

I like that Sung Jinwoo didn't even waste a single second waiting for the boss to finish talking before taking the head of that other elf dude...just like they killed the weakest members of their original group in an ambush in the last episode. What comes around, goes around.

I suppose those ice elves are that other world/dimension's equivalent to "players", similar to how the system forces Sung Jinwoo to kill other hostile humans on occasion.

What causes the newly Arisen warriors to change equipment? The killed leader had no helmet, and wielded a sword. He originally had a shield, but not at the time of his death. But after being revived as an undead shadow warrior, he now not only has a helmet, but one with big horns like Loki...and a huge battle axe/hammer like Thor in place of his sword, with a new shield too. Or maybe Sung Jinwoo can give some mana to upgrade him in the process, explaining the bulk in size as well. I don't think the shadow warriors use the physical bodies, since the corpses of the bears were left behind after they got revived. I'm guessing since shadows can take any shape, sprinkle in some otherworld magic and souls of the undead and you got anything you can imagine. That's what I'm going with unless there's a more official explanation.

At any rate, with how dumb he was failing to see his own shortcomings and blaming others, I'm not surprised "Iron" inherited his intelligence, or rather lack thereof, perhaps even more so with him acting like a Neanderthal caveman that only knows how to smash.

So...did Sung Jinwoo end up letting the survivors keep those winter coats that were likely defeated enemy drop rewards? They honestly looked quite nice and fashionable with that quilted suede leather look, I wouldn't mind wearing something like that going out. Maybe he let them keep those coats in exchange for keeping his abilities secret until he's ready to reveal himself in the future after laying the groundwork.

Perfectly ended the episode off with a misunderstanding. I hope they never address it again, because it's that much more funnier the longer this misunderstanding goes unresolved.

Pretty mediocre episode:

Let me say that the dialogues in this anime are disarmingly banal, the problem is also the studio that puts in its Japanese bullshit like the apologies or calling each other by name when in the manhwa nothing of that happened and instead they cut the good dialogues like when the S-rank hunter is worried about Jinwoo's strength.

Then can someone explain to me how they put the OST? They put Dark Aria in the finale when it literally didn't fit and in the fight there was some nice soundtrack but nothing as spectacular as the fans described.

Not to mention that they ruined Iron's entrance quite a bit, in the manhwa it was spectacular but here it all seemed so forced that it even creates inconsistencies about the time it took him to summon it, and as usual you don't explain anything about Jinwoo's abilities and his shadows, despite the system being a fundamental part of the work here it is totally cut.

And then why is the pace so fast? In season 1 they were making the scenes a lot longer while here they are shortening them unnecessarily, well, the only good stuff is some animated scenes, but it's certainly not a good job considering all the negative points. I'm really surprised that it's so appreciated despite having many things that don't work in these episodes
@Leon888 I get where you're coming from, but if they went into detail about every single thing, there would be whole episodes of him just explaining skills and stuff, that would be horrendously boring.
In this episode they even did very well with SHOWING you how things work instead of going into an info dump monologue.

A quote from the Manhwa when Baek questioned Jinwoo at the end:
"Seems I've let out my frustrations on you. You're right. I apologize."

Also from the Manhwa when Jinwoo drops off Song-Yi:

Kindly re-read the manhwa before you complain about the unfaithfulness of the anime. Because you're really just spouting nonsense at this point.
They've done a fantastic job adapting it so far. Yes, there have been times that were lacking an explaination, but those are VERY few and mostly rather unimportant.

The pace isn't fast at all imo. But I'm also watching Donghua, so I'm kinda used to fast paced anime atp. Calling this episode mediocre, even if unsatisfied with the show overall, is just wild.

@Vedrun Bah you also focus on the minimal aspects and don't really pay attention to the differences: in the manhwa Baek also apologizes because he feels the enormous strength that Jinwoo emanates, in the anime instead he apologizes twice (the 2nd time was cringe) and doesn't even say anything about Jinwoo's strength, about the name as you can see in the manhwa he doesn't give it too much importance, in the anime it seemed as if there had been a radical change after having said it which was very annoying to hear.

Leaving aside this part and I reconfirm that the dialogues in the anime are incredibly banal, I have expressed many other points that you accidentally didn't mention or answer, but you tell me to go and reread the manhwa when I know the contents that they skipped or modified and saying that the explanations are irrelevant is very wrong given that the work initially focused a lot on the characters' statistics.

And I call this episode mediocre because it's not enough to simply have a little bit of action and ignore the rest to say that it's a well-managed episode, especially considering that the manhwa made all of this much better since you could really feel the tension of the fight also due to all the disadvantages listed of Jinwoo, here instead they made it pass as yet another generic battle focusing only on the action and not on the context in which it takes place

@Ghostmw2 I saw your catalog out of curiosity and if I may say so you don't have much reasoning in judging the shows, Solo leveling you gave it very high ratings, despite many other anime that deserve it more you rated them worse like Attack on titan, Assassinatiom classroom, black lagoon... I don't understand this difference since Solo leveling is very generic and flat in what it does.
Ps: in reality you haven't seen 100 anime because many entries that are included in your catalog are just other seasons of various anime, so in reality you have seen many less

@tofei In reality Baek also held back because he recognized Jinwoo's enormous strength, in the manhwa he openly says that he must be willing to lose some limbs if he wants to face him in a serious fight and also seeing his strength, he wanted to recruit him into his guild... so more than humility it was also awareness because if he had been another low-level hunter, things would probably have gone differently.

@Leon888 I will once again quote your exact words:

bullshit like the apologies or calling each other by name when in the manhwa nothing of that happened

And I was saying this is untrue, because it is. If you were merely complaining about how they changed the dialoge up a bit, then you should have written that, and not changed the meaning of your words in your next reply, just because it benefits your point. You clearly said NOTHING OF THAT HAPPENED. Yes it did.

Am I obligated to mention all of your points? I simply don't agree with them. To me the dialogue brings across the same meaning it did in the manhwa most of the time. The OST placement was fitting. I didn't see a reason to mention it. Sometimes these things are just up to taste. I do think the timing of the battle OST in Ep1 could've been timed better, but that's beside the point because this is an Ep2 discussion.

I know content has been skipped and modified. It was a given this was gonna happen. I still think they're mostly minor things. You act like the dialogue has lost all its meaning just because some things are worded slightly different sometimes. Obviously they can't always quote the manhwa word for word, because it wouldn't fit the pace of the animation. That would result in a lot of boring still frames that get dragged out a lot, just for a little bit of more information. It works in Novel and Manhwa format, but not in anime format.

@Vedrun It's true that I expressed myself badly in that point about the dialogues, but I had left it more vague because they were the first things that immediately caught my eye.

Also it's funny how you say that they can't transpose everything, when in the 1st season they did it or rather they added a lot of "filler" to lengthen the scenes more with the consequence that the pace was much worse because you had a lot of dead moments and a lot of interrupted moments instead (ep 11 comes to mind the battle against Igris where they interrupt it 5 times just to show you these fillers which was very annoying since you lost all the tension of the fight) while they cut some parts that were quite cool to watch (like Jinwoo who after defeating the department's hunter B, finds a surviving criminal and feeds him to the dungeon boss, I mean I don't understand why they cut that scene if it was cool to watch).

Instead in this 2nd season it seems that they started with the accelerator and said let's get to the point right away, when for this mini arc of the elves at least 3 episodes would have been needed to build everything well, and yes they change or cut some things but they shouldn't do it if they are important since they give more context and lore to Solo leveling.

Do you want to cut something? cut the car scene at the end of the 2nd episode, which was a useless gag scene and keep the dialogues on the explanation of Iron's scream, on Jinwoo's strength by Baek, on the statistics of Jinwoo's various shadows, instead nothing, from these assumptions I can only be disappointed, also considering the fact that many choices as I mentioned before that they made were very questionable
