When I ended 1st season, I found that 2nd is in movie form AND anime series, so my question is - why creators of anime decided to make two things about SAME THING from manga? Why repeated one arc from manga? I watched only movie and it was very good, so I'm wondering too I should watch series of Mugen Train...

Yeah, first episode contain anime only content, I like it, opening is also nice, so I recommend watching at least first episode, the rest is like in the movie

well you should atleast watch the first episode because it wasn't adapted in the movie and the rest is your choice. the opening and ending is amazing as it's LiSA so you can have a good rewatch by watching them but you can Skip and jump into Entertainment District arc if you want.

I loved the episodic format of Mugen Train Arc. I really hate the movie format tbh and that's why I would suggest you to watch it!

Plain and simple:
Just watch the first episode of the series, as for the rest it’s the same as the movie.

Maximum money, out of minimum effort.

The Movie was an absolute massive (!) success. Splitting it into regular episodes to re-release it doesn't require a lot of work, and has high potential of generating money again. To be sure to bait viewers, and potentially avoiding getting criticized too much, they also added a whole episode worth of original content at the beginning.

In their defense, I do think it was also intended for folks that didn't get the chance to see the movie. Since not every country got it, and not every theater in countries that did get it got it. Not that there wasn't financial intentions behind it either, there absolutely was. But I don't think that was the sole reason they decided to make it into a mini season.

That would be a great motive, but realistically, that is the first and only time Aniplex and Ufotable* did this, as far as i know, and you won't make me believe this is not because the Movie was such a tremendous generator of money...

* They did it once with Kara no Kyoukai, which got a TV Series edition (with cut content) to serve as a recap and attract new fans for the release of Mirai Fukuin, 5 years after the end of the series of Movies.

They first created the movie. The movie was the biggest success in Japanese cinema history.
After the success, they decided to rerun the movies in episodic format for TV. The first episode had new content that was not in the movie plus there were minor additional scenes here there.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

This happens a lot where movies are recaps sometimes with some extra scenes. A number of times, it draws inconsistencies when the movies come out first or at least before the series gets to that point.

I think the movies are more profitable but they had to cut out scenes to fit into a movie. Didn’t have to give us the extra scenes, but I’m glad they did. Ufotable is the goat

@SoloNecromancer Most probably. No matter what decision they make, it's still going to be crazy popular in Japan and they will capitalise that to full extent.
The movies will be legendary.

Anyway, the 7 episode anime is really great IMO

Besides a few extra scenes, not important for you to watch the show version unless its been awhile. They made it because not everyone watched the movie during covid in theatres, streaming + DVD might not be available for everyone of the movie, this allows them to use pre existing animation. Which is absolutely fair. Its top notch.

Sorry for the late reply...

But I prefer episodic format because it builds the hype more. The movie requires watching you content prior to the movie which is also same in the case of episodic format but you get more time to catch up in the episodic format unlike the movie one where others would finish it in one go and the spoilers will be spilled all over there with the edits.

Moreover the movie releases are always late out of Japan and that delay is very annoying. Also, we get to see extra creativity and efforts from the Ufotable team in episodic format with those end credit dialogues and ofc the opening and ending songs adding flavour in the each season.

These are my reasons why I prefer episodic format.
