Maybe you should rewatch season 2, or at least the last 2, 3 episodes.
Lu Guang said at the end of s2 that he has to go back - to save his best friend. So, to change the past...
And that's what he has done now: he went back to the moment when they first met - and so we see now their (back)story.

Here’s my understanding of it all-
It’s not quite a prequel, but it’s kinda similar. Basically, seasons 1 and 2 followed the “main timeline” and at the very end of season 2, Lu Guang has a flashback to when Cheng Xiaoshi first died in the “original timeline” and then shows how he went back in time to save him. Yingdu Chapter/Bridon Arc picks up from the place where he first returned to, an earlier point on the “original timeline” where the two first met, and is carrying on with the backstory from there, with LG retaining his memories of future events and CXS not knowing any of it. It’s implied that LG has gone back in time multiple times to save CXS, so it’s probably showing his first attempt. I believe the “main timeline” will be picked back up during the 3rd season (to be released sometime ?later this year?).

So basically Yingdu Chapter is all a big flashback that shows the beginning of LG’s journey to save CXS.

——> they first meet ———————> CXS dies ——> LG goes back to first meet

^
———> s1 ———> s2 —*flashback*—> s3?

So for those who are confused, here is a summary of the timeline and what is going on based on info the show has given to us:

1: In the original timeline CXS dies and LG gets his powers to save him
2: LG travels back to the past when he first met CXS at the basketball court and tries to prevent his death.
3: Despite LGs efforts, CXS still dies, LG gets his powers to travels back in time again
4: Steps 1-3 gets repeated over and over again for god knows how long (the show hasn't told us how long LG has been trapped in this time loop)

5: Now in 1 of the time loops, CXS is killed in the photo studio by Vein
6: LG gets CXS powers again and dives back in time again
7: LG meets CXS at the basketball court (start of Ep 1 of the Bridon arc)
8: Events in Ep 2-6 will happen
9: Events in S1 will happen

(NOTE: My theory is that at the end of S1, CXS was supposed to die but for some reason the killer isn't Vein and LG was the victim instead). However, neither LG or CXS has died so the timeline / death nodes has changed. And remember back in the basketball episode, history and events can change (ie winning the basketball game). However, death is a major node that can't change. The fact that LG changed the death node for CXS means there is a certain consequence for the sins he has to bear (which is why LG is depicted as a white devil in official art)

10: Events in S2 happen
11: At the end of S2, we get a flashback explaining for the first time that LG has been going back into the past to save CXS (this refers to Step 5)
12: Events in S3 (which is still in production since Bridon isn't S3) will happen after the events in S2.

@DonghuaFan Ah ok thank you, this helps a lot. I was confused cuz i didnt recognize the new pink haired dude (Vein), so he and chengs death sequence in the start of this new season is an alternative timeline that lu guang has faced. So this is the dive back in time to the very beginning before season 1. So this doesnt follow the mysterious dive back in time LG did at the end of S2 after CXS did not die
