I really enjoy characters with an inferiority complex who lack confidence at the beginning but grow and break out of their shell as the story goes on. Watching them develop always inspires me to become a better person. Another character like this is Natsuki Subaru from Re:Zero.

Not meaning to be rude, and an honest take, but doesn’t that describe many male MCs in anime?

The rarity I see, is the confident and open male MC that has no problems talking to people or women.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

I'm not talking about those lonely and shy MCs who are unable to talk to girls, have zero friends at the start and makes some friends along the way. I'm looking for characters that go through significant development and becomes a better person.

Okazaki Tomoya from Clannad is another example.

We have both an inferior complexity and a confident MC in japanese what we actually lack is just a normal MC that is not too confident nor like can't talk to girls
for example
MC from Days with my stepsister
or MC from pseudo harem
or MC from Rascal does not dream
We lack natural love development like we have in days with my stepsister or Rascal does not dream series.

Watch Insomniacs After School. Both the leads and the progression of their relationship feel realistic.

@ejleon Ichikawa isn't like ur generic shy male mc that has no reason to be scared talking to other people. But rather Ichikawa is a character that has internal conflict but go through significant character development as the story goes.

@Zcategory you has too simple mind if u really think like this, there's no shounen romance protagonist in recent years that has writing, characterization, internal conflict and development like Ichikawa. Don't just because he's shy and awkward then u put them in those same category.

Bojji from Ranking of Kings actually fits this description, even though hes a bit different and not like your typical teenage MC. He's not necessarily introverted but he really lacks confidence and has an inferiority complex. Kage from the same show also has fantastic character development. Highly recommend

You should check out Jaku Chara Tomozaki Kun. It is pretty much a self improvement show about a pro gamer who learns to socialise, guided by a classmate. Nothing crazy, but it's a fun watch nonetheless.

Nope. The MC actually evaluates and thinks about his feelings for certain classmates and decides to pursue a single girl that he falls for. No harem.

You should try it again. Hikigaya is basically a premium version of Kyotaro, in some sense.

It really feels great to watch it 2nd or 3rd time as you know what happens so you can focus on what the dialogues are and what they can mean instead of what they show they mean. I highly recommend it, although, you should only watch it if you want to. Don't force it, else it won't be fun

Also, as I suggested, don't force yourself to rewatch any of these shows. Eventually, you will feel like watching those shows again. Trust me.

It is, is not really romantic, just weird for the sake of it. There isn't much development of anything either. I don't know if the manga goes anywhere, but the anime doesn't.

@Greentreefrog Good point, that male MC is all about helping the women the god accidentally put as his matches, so he is confident and strong.
