Does this pick up at any point in the series? Ive watched 12 epsiodes of s1 and while i dont hate it im not loving it either. The be the background character trope and the almost episodic nature of the show are growing a bit old for me. Theres loosely a plot but not enough of one to keep me invested but i feel like theres more. These first 12 episodes have felt like a super slow build up for the actual story to start so im just wondering if this series does something similar to steins gate where it gets crazy good partway through or if what ive seen is what i get. Ill finish season 1 regardless but i want to know if i should bother with season 2

Season 1 is better than season 2 so not a great sign if you don’t like it.

the series isn't ment for serious story telling it's like konosuba it's made for fun.
"among monsters and humans, there are only two types.
Those who undergo suffering and spread it to others. And those who undergo suffering and avoid giving it to others." -Alice
“Beauty is no quality in things themselves: It exists merely in the mind which contemplates them; and each mind perceives a different beauty.” David Hume
“Evil is created when someone gives up on someone else. It appears when everyone gives up on someone as a lost cause and removes their path to salvation. Once they are cut off from everyone else, they become evil.” -Othinus

I'm currently rewatching it and it's hilarious unlike first watch. It gets really intense at the end of the first season which caused the drastic jump of the rating. You should continue watching it.

You won't find plot if you don't look for it, there are so many spoiler in first episode for the rest of the series even the stuff that hasn't been adopted yet.
But it's so cleverly hidden that it seems like there is no plot.
It's like a puzzle all you'll see are pieces and you won't see the come together until you Realize that you're meant to solve it.

And if you don't care for spoilers, just let me know, I'll show you every thing you missed.

A little prelude:
"the company gamma opened was mentioned even before he reincarnated."

"At the main hall of the company is a statu of shadow and the seven shades."

see ive felt like there was more to this show than meets the eye but im hoping they throw the subtleties aside eventually and bring everything together. its felt very similar to steins gate in that regard

The thing is,
It's the kind of story where everyone will try to make a plans but will be stopped by shadow.
Coz whatever he wants.
The plot will make sure that he's always in the
Right.
It doesn't matter what he does a problem will arise wherever he is just so he could solve it.

And season 2 is where a few things will be explained even the part how he got from his world to this one.
Just don't get your hopes up. The focus of the show is shadow the plot will always remain in the shadows.

Makes sense. It's not for you, it's as simple as that.
For me, I enjoyed it. Like A LOT.
imo, s2 was better than s1 even though I loved and enjoyed both.
The plot is not that serious and it favors Cid a lot so if you ain't into that, you won't for s2 and the upcoming movie.

I feel you I thought the same thing it gets better towards the end of season 1 and then season 2 same thing ending is tuff, but in my opinion this anime failed to live up to its potential. I wish it had a more serious plot bc the story, characters, setting is very good but the plot is supposed to be fun and kinda comedic, and don’t even get me started on how the MC is so oblivious, ignorant to what the girls are doing on the side that shit pissed me off.

@Zxstu i wish the tone and pace were set better earlier on because i was expecting a really intricate dark future diary kind of thing but then it was an op isekai which i usually enjoy but this one is a bit too cringey for me.

I’ll be honest, I hated this anime, and still do

It definitely wasn’t as good as people claimed

It was not a parody of isekai anime, if anything it was for the “isekai haters”

The MC was awful, the sides characters were better
ejleonDec 3, 12:12 AM
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

I am a LN reader. The plot remains the same, about a stupid chunni having fun, completely unaware that there 2 organisations fighting each other.

I don’t compare this to Steins;Gate due to it being completely different genre.
There is no sudden change in tone like Steins;Gate episode 12 or Gundam ZZ episode 20.

The entire series is MC is oblivious and his Shadow Garden organization is the only thing that makes any of his "plans" work.

It was blatantly obvious to me when he threw the knife at the map and said his sister was there. Dude had no clue. From then on it was just happen to be there at the right time when x, y, and z all just happen to fall in place based of his vague advice, notes, stories, etc.

This one is the epitome of MC just gets lucky things always work out.

@Leonzanimelist well to be fair ive seen double the amount of anime you have and tropes and things just get old. Ive only found 1 thing funny in the 16 episodes ive watched and i dont find any excitement in a gag anime with gag characters. Its just not my cup of tea. The animation is solid but doesnt stand above most anime. Its just another isekai
