Now that the manga has concluded, would you recommend someone new to the series watch the anime first before switching to the manga, or just read the manga? If they were to watch the anime, should they watch the entire series through the second season, just the first season, or only just the (in)famous first episode?

In most cases, the manga is better. This one had a fantastic adaptation so I would actually recommend the anime

If they don't have a preference between anime or manga, then I will recommend the anime.

Caught up to everything manga before the second season came out, and it's safe to say, you absolutely have to go for the anime. Such a good adaptation.

I would. the anime has really great cinematography which I feel should not be missed. manga wise, the ending wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either.

Definitely anime after the 2.5 theatre arc the character development of Aqua went to the void and then the incest thing happened so yea

also actual bullshit man no incest ever actually happened people are just stupid enough. I don't know what Aka thought he was doing but he was at most messing with the fandom, since everything that happened actually makes full sense in context.

Yea bro sibilngs kissing each other is completely normal and in context lol even if Aka was messing with the fans it still doesn’t change the fact that it was technically an incest scene

I think the anime adaptation has surpassed the manga no doubt, but at the same time i think reading the manga has its own charm, especially the manga art of yokokari mengo really enhance the dark nature of the show.

Kind of counterintuitive to drop a spoiler under a thread about someone new wanting to try out the series..

The anime adaptation is fantastic, so I clearly recommend it over the manga. Especially when it comes to showing OnK to a new person, the anime with its great 1st episode is surely a much better choice, as reaching the core plot would take an entire first volume, and you Can get uninterested before that.

All up to second season has nothing controversial, and afaik the 2nd Season even more is loved by everyone.

for people talking about incest, because it's the internet, people overreact on things that don't really take a prominent role in the series and doesn't really change if it's good or not. so yeah I don't think it matters much overall and there is nothing actually terrible, and it doesn't come out of nowhere either.

I also don't really understand people calling the ending bad, or calling it rushed. I sincerely don't. I quite expected Aqua to die since the beggining and the overall conclusion of the story feels pretty normal and satisfying as well, so... Now when I hear the internet say MHA or JJK endings are bad I know I probably shouldn't take it for granted (I haven't finished either) cause I might very well disagree.

i’ve watched the anime and then switched to the anime. In my opinion the anime adaption is crazy, so you should watch it and then choose if read from the start or not. It’s right in every case

I would recommend to get the manga ! I feel like the story feels and writes out so much better through paper rather than on screen. I watched the anime first like most people, then when season 1 ended I hopped into the manga and I so far have been hooked. I also feel like there were such niche details that were mentioned in the manga regarding idols, that never made the cut in the anime. If you’re a fan of Japanese idols outside of anime, I 100% recommend reading it on top of watching it (bc we got really nice OST’s and idol songs :))

Same here. The ending might have been a bit rushed but it didn't take away anything from my overall onk experience. It was an amazing ride and I absolutely do not regret any second of it.
