According to Web Newtype, a new album CD of One Piece was announced to be released on March 17th. A recap OVA summarizing the whole ten-year TV series up to Impel Down chapter will be bundled with the limited edition. The CD will include thirty three OP and ED theme songs.

Wow, that's an impressive tracklist. Anyhow, I wonder how they can possible fit that huge amount in a single OVA, unless of course it has a runtime of 1 hour+

Hm, I should consider watching this, since I'll never have the drive to catch up with the show.

exactly my thoughts. one can't expect to watch all these episodes. one recap OVA may cut off the unnecessary parts/fillers one should skip. Hopefully they'd do this to Naruto and Bleach (I lost track here due to too many fillers and the extremely slow action) too.

Hopefully this OVA will not only focus on introducing the characters and summarizing their background stories, but also on recapping the overall main story (events that lead to the Impel Down arc). Even for us who have been following One Piece for years, it has been difficult to remember all the small events that make up the main story, since those events were so far apart.

Needless to say, though, those who plan to watch this OVA instead of the series will miss out on some great moments.

A suggestion for those who plan to pick One Piece up after watching this OVA is to start watching from episode 385, which is where the latest events begin.

To be honest, I forgot some episodes of One Piece and I was planning to re-watch the whole series. So this OVA is a good news for me :3

Though I'm still planning to re-watch the series since I find it impossible for an OVA to recap this long anime.

Unlike Naruto and Bleach, One Piece separates filler episodes from the real story arcs. Its easy to skip them using an episode guide such as this. One Piece fillers are surprisingly good, though, since they were made small arcs instead of standalone episodes.

However, as with all shounen series, unnecessary parts abound. I wonder how long this OVA will be.

My thoughts exactly.

There's too much awesomeness to fit in a single CD.

What he said.

A recap movie would have been better. Since almost every Anime gets one nowadays anyway.

If you gonna skip the fillers then at least make an exception for G8 arc after the Skypiea saga - it's worth it.

Pretty much this is what I will do unless I find the OVA especially hilarious. Then pick the series from there. A much greater plan than watching it all when it's over.

Do people actually believe that watching one OVA will really be enough to "catch you up" with the series? There's so much more to One Piece than meets the eye, believe it or not. How much can an OVA cover besides overall summaries of what happened in each arc? You'll miss so many of the subplots and such. Then again, we don't know how long the OVA is going to be, so I guess I should hold my breath until we find out more details about it.

But hey, if this gets more people to give One Piece a chance, then all the better. I just hope the OVA can do some justice to the storyline.

It really must be a blow to a manga-ka if your 10 year series can be told in a few OVA's.

Having people watch this to "catch up" just doesn't sit right with me.

One Piece is a fantastic series that actually makes usage of how long it is to be even better. If you don't watch/read the actual series you're going to miss out on a lot of the emotion and the attachment to the characters, and that series will seem not as great.

It really can't. They're just going to cut out way too much shit like the Arabasta movie they made.

I think a few OVAs that is 140 mins a piece could probably recap arcs instead of putting it all into one OVA. A movie isn't enough either.

I'd say if it would be like that the first one would go from when the series first starts up to when Nami rejoins. Then

I agree. I mean this possibly has a chance of people going "Hey, this actually looks really interesting, maybe I should try watching all of it" and then finding out that all the sub-plots not in the OVA inspire them to keep watching the series.

I really just hope as you said people after watching this think they know all about One Piece, and when you mention someone like Vegapunk, they just go, what?

I remember the 8th One Piece Moive (One Piece: Episode of Alabaster - Sabaku no Ojou to Kaizoku Tachi) summing up the whole Alabasta Arc and, though the big cuts, it was 2h long. I really wonder how they want to accomplish that for the complete series...

Right...if you'll only watch the OVA you'll miss all the epicness! And man after you finish the current episodes you'll ask for more.

im so happy about this, but...how the hell are the going to put all 400 episodes into 1 ova? maybe ALOT of ova's might be the case, but as those other people said, the made the alabaster arc into a 2 hour movie, and it still cut alot of the arc out!

should be interesting to see though.

GOD DAMN IT NOW I WANT TO SEE IT D:

I'll watch it too for sure, especially since the anime looks kinda ugly at tthe start, it will be great to see nice graphics for the beginning of the story.

I'm curious as to how they will fit 10 years worth of anime in a OVA though.

I haven't watched the anime yet but I've read about 15 volumes of the manga. I plan to be almost caught up on the manga by the time this comes out. Still not sure if I want to watch the whole anime since it's 400 something episodes and counting and I just don't have that kind of time :(

So if I've read the manga but not watched the anime would this be appropriate for me to watch? Does the anime follow the manga story line closely?

if you finished the manga you can watch this...

tho it will be for teh first time when you will hear the voice actors and such.. and you may find it strange lol)
anyway if you read the manga ( finish it before watching the ova) you can watch it

I think it will just be an narrator telling the story, while some images are shown, and we'll get real scenes with the characters talking only for the most important moments. Otherwise it wouldn't fit in a regular sized OVA.

Wow, Im just stunned. This is one of the best things I have ever seen for an anime. Admit there are those Recap episodes, but they just got in the way of the show, and the show was normaly less then one hundred episodes to begin with.
But with this, its an entire recap on 10 years of the best anime on the planet, to me, its almost a mirical!
