I am mainly a shounen watcher and now decided to try other genre
should I start shoujo by watching this (my friend suggested this to me but I can't trust him because he recommended me boku no pico for feel good slice of life 😭)
What do you'll think!?

FYI shoujo does not necessarily eqates mahou shoujo.
Madoka Magica is famous for "deconstructing" mahou shoujo genre by introducing dark themes to a genre that is otherwise known for sugary, sweet pinkish sunshine and sparkle girlish anime, so of you want to experience that, you should look somewhere else.

This is not a shoujo.

Mahou Shoujo are not necessarily shoujo. Madoka Magica is a deconstruction of the Magical Girls genre with some dark themes under the facade of typical cutesy look of the genre.

If you're looking for shoujo then this is not the right thing. But if you're looking for some psychological themed anime then try it.

If you mainly watch action shounens then you might like it. It’s a psychological, action, drama. Think Steins:Gate, Code Geass, Evangelion but cute girls. Shaft also has S tier animation, but it’s not a shoujo

You can watch this anime, but’s its not a shoujo anime. Although the original manga itself is not published in any magazine, there are many other madoka magica mangas that were published in Manga Time Kirara and its derivatives, which are all Seinen. If you want a magical girl anime similar to it that is Shoujo, you should watch Revolutionary Girl Utena (Shoujo Kakumei Utena). But if you want a more “traditonal“ magical girl anime, then you can watch Sailor Moon!

This really isn't a good example of Shoujo, being more of a super dark deconstruction. good Shoujo would be like Nana, Children of the Whales, Cardcaptor Sakura, Fruit's Basket, etc.

You'd be best served by going to the Shoujo tag and just watching whatever looks coolest to you. Sadly, a lot of good Shoujo doesn't get adapted cause the main anime market is for Shonen stuff or Otaku-bait. Same with Josei.

This show isn't a Shoujo anime, it's Mahou Shoujo, these are 2 different things.

Shoujo is targeted at girl audience.

Mahou Shoujo has magical girl characters.

well I highly recommend you this but it's not a proper shoujo like if you're interested in psychological thriller etc thrn watch it but it's definitely not a cute shoujo anime. like it's more like shoujo like banana fish.... if you want to start shoujo I'll recommend you fruits basket or ouran highschool host club. (and by the way I didn't knew you were indian💀💀)

Like others have said, Madoka technically doesn't have an assigned demographic, but I'd say it most closely resembles a seinen anime, both in art style and themes. It's definitely not a shoujo.

If you're interested in a shoujo magical girl show that also subverts tropes, check out Princess Tutu or Revolutionary Girl Utena.

Like everyone said. But some shoujos I've (and my older sister) liked are Arina Tanemura's work, Magic Knight Rayearth, Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Kimi ni Todoke and Fruits Basket for example.

I get why you’d wanna start Madoka, it’s a great show! if you want an authentic magical girl show that’s legitimately a shoujo but still has a darker edge- I’d say check out Revolutionary Girl Utena, or Princess Tutu.

I recommend it since this was my introduction to more "girly" animes since I grew up watching Dragon Ball Z, Naruto and Saint Seiya (everything in disorder btw XD) I didn't like it that much as first but it grew on me very fast after episode 3 and I gotta admit that these magical girls really know how to fight so give it a try! I don't think you are going to be disappointed.

You can't go wrong with trying a great anime that defined a subgenere. So, yeah. Madoka is a great option. Just take it slowly, since it deals with dark themes.

Trying to watch shoujo with "Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika" looks like trying to be vegan with eating a huge steak lol
It is seinen 100%, masterpiece, amazing, and it is completely not shoujo
The same way you can try slice of life with Gakkou Gurashi or harem romantic with School days

Just never watch magia record
