Ok so out of the 4 Junji Ito anime adaptations (gyo, Uzumaki and the 2 collections, let me know if i missed one) this to me is the best for 1 reason only. NO COLOR!!! We all know the first ep is the best one but can we all agree that the no color helps with the horror a bit. It was able to take full advantage if the original work and with the added lines for detail on faces and objects helped to bring this manga to life. I dont know if it's effective because it's Junji Ito but I do remember when I first heard of the anime collection and saw color I was turned off from it, when I did watch it eventually yeah there were some great creepy moments but the entire time I was thinking what if this was black and white. and then the trailer for Uzumaki came and there was no color and immediately I thought this is gunna be something awesome and creepy. and it lived up to my expectation.

Do you think some other anime, horror or not could benefit from the same style?

If this lived up to your expectation than the bar has to be in hell. Come on man.

But yeah, the no color direction is a good idea.

I agree
The animation might be abysmal compared to the 1st ep but the horror is definitely there throughout the series

I beg to differ. The reason episode 1 is so good is because of Hiroshi Nagahama. He is a helluva good director. The aesthetic choice for B&W had little to do with the horror IMO, it was due to the good direction and animation. Episode 2 was a massive drop in quality due to the staff change, despite remaining the same B&W scheme. The reason the colored anime sucked wasn't because of the colors, but due to the lame ass production at Studio Deen, they can't handle a complex and hard anime to adapt like Ito's stories. Any anime can benefit from any aesthetic choice IF it has a good director, paired up with a good staff, with a good production schedule.

Well if there was a vagabond adaptation then it will look great without colour but it needs to have colour in some parts (the coloured pages)

It's the best one because of the first episode alone, which was perfect, buuuut it's not saying much considering the previous attempts at it.

Man it breaks my heart to see such a fall from grace. The first episode was so freaking good man. Episodes 3 and 4 weren’t that bad, but episode 2 is what really soured the taste in a lot of people’s mouths. At least episode 1 still slaps🥲

No. That lone factor doesn't make this best adaptation by any chance, even as a joke. Few Episodes of Ito Collection by Deen did better than This, even though that show was shit itself.
Episode 1 is the only Good-decent Ito adaptation till now, yet Rushed. It felt like they didn't have a Well Thought out Plan to begin with. After I got to about what happened with the show, the director and staff, I feel Pity instead of Hatred.
WISHED I COULD ALSO GET TRANSPORTED TO A WORLD FULL OF MAGIC And DUNGEONS, please take me there too if you could ( ◜‿◝ )

Less Just say previous Junti Ito Adaptations set the bar at 2 feet and This Adaptation barely cleared that low bar at 2.5 feet...So yea in that sense its the best Junji Ito Adaptation till now..xd
