OK, I dont know about the rest 3 episodes, but the 1st is the only great Junji Ito adaptation ever. I hope its gonna be a success and see more adaptations like this one, no colors, same animation, same still frames (taken straight from the manga), great voice acting and generally speaking, a love letter to the master of Japanese horror. Fingers crossed, the rest 3 episodes are as good as the first because we might get Tomoe animated in a few years! Or an anthology Ito deserves and not the Netflix trash. Fingers crossed.

I don't know, The first episode was good and enjoyable but in terms of horror, I think the first episode of shinsekai yori was a lot more scary. I've read the manga of uzumaki and it was 9/10 cause the peak of horror for me is still shinsekai yori, and I don't think Uzumaki will rich that point.

I hope so too, at least to be known as a pretty decent adaptation for once. Some criticisms are warranted, like the pacing, but others I feel are not, like that I believe the uncanny animation from the rotoscoping is intentional and works to the anime's benefit.

At the very least, it sits at a MAL score of 8 right now, which it will probably float around for the next couple episodes. I anticipate a dip upon release of the last episode, as I know some people won't like the way Uzumaki's story ends. After that, I'll just be happy with it being at least a 7 after it's done airing and everything settles down, assuming I feel the same about it then. From what I heard about the other Ito anime (which I haven't watched yet because I'm still blind to a lot of the manga), I think this will turn out to be the best among them, as low a bar as that may be, and I would really like that to be reflected if it holds true.

@Hickykissy Well Uzumaki is a Lovecraftian Cthulhu Mythos (in a sense) cosmic horror story, its not a straight up in your face gore or anything. Lovecraft is considered the father of the true horror genre, praised by every horror author ever but still his work was never extreme, especially compared to King or Barker for example. Junji Ito has far more extreme works than Uzumaki but still this one is a "wedding" between his incredible work on body horror and his love for Lovecraft and cosmic horror. Now Shinsekai yori is fantastic (obviously) but if Uzumaki is done right my personal opinion is its gonna be better because Shinsekai yori is a bit, how can I put it, anime? Its stupid I know, but I cant frase it differently, and dont take me wrong, I LOVE it. Anyway, 3 more episodes to judge! Still its a matter of taste, my wife never read Uzumaki and after the first episode (and all the praise she got from me for the last 10 years or so) thinks that Higurashi and Corpse Party are the best. As much as I love Higurashi, no, its not. But its something completely different!

#Excuse me for my mistakes, Im 80% blind from one eye.

@MoonSpider Personally I loved the animation because Ito's work need something different, like his art, and this kind of animation gets the job done perfectly (and its great to watch of course). Now about the ending, I think the majority of people know what they are watcing and this is a cosmic horror anime, with Lovecraft written all over it, so yeah the ending is gonna be...well...strange! If you are talking about the Netflix Ito anime STAY AWAY, its trash.

Shinsekai yori was scary? It sure didn't feel very scary, it was as scary as stuff like jjk or Naruto, that is to say, not very much

Uzumaki on the other hand, is really hecking creepy and scary

@EzioMorte bbg I have the power of autism within me - when I get hooked into something, I look into all avenues. The Collection/Maniac series, the horrible Gyo movie, live-action adaptations, all of it, anything I can get my grubby little hands on. Probably not worth my time, but I neeeeeeed to see for myself o.o The only reason I haven't yet is because I need money to buy the manga, and I promised myself I'd read all the manga before watching their adaptations for this man's work in particular.

That being said, since his name is so mainstream in the anime/manga community, I'm guessing there will be a lot of people tuning in who never followed this man's work before to know how abstract and open-ended the story concepts often are, and even though I really enjoy it even I felt pretty thrown reaching Uzumaki's ending for the first time. I don't have much hope that the "majority" of people know that it's cosmic horror coming their way, so I feel like that dip with episode 4 will be inevitable, but that's just my personal speculation.

@MoonSpider I have every single manga of Ito, even his adaptation of No Longer Human. I would love everything to be adapted if its like Uzumaki and not Netflix to be honest. The problem for him being too mainstream is the adaptations like Netflix's from people that dont understand what body horror is, thats the reason we got trash adaptations like Tomie. As for the Uzumaki ending, yes, it will be hard for most people to appreciate and thats my biggest fear because if this is as good as the first episode and people dont like it, our hopes are done. Funny thing is, all his other stories are pretty straight forward and easy to watch/read, well, I mean, if you can stomach the body horror that is!

PS: I feel you about the horrible live action adaptations, I managed to watch the Higurashi movie 2 times lol!
