So, if you've watched the 3 minute sneak peek on YouTube i would like to hear your opinion. In my opinion the movements looks very cgi and some scenes were like copy paste panels that fits for the manga but it looks very weird in anime like some freeze photo frame

It's just rotoscopic animation mixed with monochromatic, greyscale palette, and an art style meant to look as close to the manga as it is possible, without turning the whole show into a motion comic. It looks very good, in my opinion. Judging from that official short preview, that is.

As long as you are not a complete 2D purist, you should get used to this animation technique, as well as the art style itself, while watching the show after it's released.

The anime looks exactly like the manga. Don’t worry, this is just a sneak peek, a short video of Uzumaki anime presentation. I’m sure the anime will overcome our expectations, since it was restricted from choosing at FAL (Fantasy Anime League).

Looks better than most shows airing in Fall lol idk what you are on about it took almost 5 years to make and perfect the animation and art of this series to replicate Ito’s artsytle and from what I can see they’ve understood the assignment perfectly and delivered.

The only time I like rotoscoped was the chika dance. The flowers of evil was a complete failure which i haven't watched yet.

It looks weird, which I like. It resembles the way I felt reading the manga with all the rotoscoping and art style.

Which is a shame bc the manga was so good and the show picked the PERFECT artstyle for it... people were just put off by it being something different from normal. Doesn't mean rotoscoping is bad, I'd imagine it fits pretty well for Ito.

I don't mind the style.

@Hickykissy Could it be that the director of Aku no Hana, who is making Uzumaki, was asked to use rotoscoping in the anime? Why do they freeze in some scenes?🤔

People gotta realize maybe rotoscoping and cgi isn’t the devil. I think it depicts the manga panels perfectly in my opinion, so I’m fine with it.
It'll all be okay in the end. If you're not okay, it's not the end.

I understand what you mean about some parts looking weird. Rotoscoping can sometimes look a bit off if it's copied too accurately for the style (so it breaks the illusion of it being animated) or sometimes faces or bodies look like they're moving at different angles or speeds. But I'm just so happy to see a great manga get a faithful, artistic, and exciting anime adaptation that I don't want to criticize it, especially before it even airs. Overall, it looks fantastic and I really think if any anime can utilize rotoscoping for its eeriness, it's this. Been waiting years and years for this, so excited!

@DeeDeeDanis007 “Nagahama’s idea was to use motion capture and build everything in CG, then re-draw all of it, which he felt would give the animators the ability to tackle Ito-sensei’s line work, which is incredibly detailed,”

It was a correct decision to animate it like this. Most horror manga lose the horror aspect when they get the anime adaptation. This one however felt uneasy when watching it.

Anime Noir style should get explored more, especially for the darker mangas.

what is japanese anime art style? 2d, 3d, motion graphic, stop motion or rotoscope animation? don't blame anyone if someone says the animation is "weird". it's all about habits.
and manga is manga, animation is animation, monochrome isn't a good choice for anime. we're all high on dopamine and hungry for entertainment, monochrome anime doesn't have vibes in 2024
