➹ 2024 MANGA REPORT ➹ Completed {23}  [Started: JAN 30] [Finished: JAN 30] The Boy Who Collects The Stars || ★★★★★★★★★★ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Hoshi wo Atsumeru Shounen 🌠 A real-world fiction one-shot set deep in Sweden's moutains. This manga beautifully showcases a simple mythology story with so much ease. Which is exactly what I look for in a one-shot! I felt like it was worthy of some kind of award  [Started: JAN 30] [Finished: FEB 07] Bear and Raccoon || ★★★★★★★★★★ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Kuma to Tanuki 🧸 A short and sweet collection, surrounding a friendship between a bear and a raccoon. Topics of environmentalism, animal rights, loss and grief. I enjoyed how simple each panel was and how cozy the entire manga made me feel.  [Started: FEB 02] [Finished: FEB 07] Extremely Straightforward Boyfriend x Girlfriend || ★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Do Chokkyuu Kareshi x Kanojo 🔞 This is most likely my least favorite that I've read this year. Extremely Straightforward is more like Extremely Repetitive. Its the same concept each an ever chapter. While I do think that this is a good message for people who tend to be more shy and reserved, I'm leaning towards the fact that this "modern" relationship is a bit too much and improbable. It's a big disappointment that the characters never really grow, especially the main male character – Honda, Shinichi. He is way too boisterous and selfish for my taking.  [Started: FEB 10] [Finished: FEB 12] Wish || ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Wish 🕊️ An angel and an ordinary man fall in love. My first CLAMP story! I was a bit confused as to how the main couples relationship progressed, but I did enjoy the supporting couple (Angel & Demon). A little bit of interesting twists here and there encouraged me to complete the whole story. Though, this manga did leave me with a sense of melancholy in the end. I guess she had to wait for his next lifetime for them to be together. ➹ 𝚏𝚊𝚟𝚘𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚎 𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚙𝚝𝚎𝚛(𝚜) ╫ 26  [Started: FEB 07] [Finished: FEB 12] If You Want To Destroy This World || ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Omae ga Sekai wo Kowashitai nara 🧛🏽♀️ A super tragic type of love, shown in cyclical fashion. There is mystery here and sense of longing seen throughout without a clear reason why, up until the very end. I did not expect such tragedy to occur by the end. I wish the actual ideas for this manga could have been realized more. I had a few questions about each of the characters, but I accepted the ending as is.  [Started: FEB 07] [Finished: FEB 12] The Swan Robe || ★★★★★★★★☆☆ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Hagoromo Mishin 🦢 A pretty sweet love story, similar to that of Swan Lake, but without the happy-ending. The ending here wasn't necessarily sad, just a little bittersweet. Simple character design in classic josei style and because it is a short read you only get a quick flash look at their love and life. |

 [Started: FEB 07] [Finished: FEB 12] Blissful Land || ★★★★★★★★★★ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Tenju no Kuni ⛰️ A short and beautifully done manga. I absolutely loved learning about Tibetan culture during the 18th century through the eyes of Izumi Ichimon. The romance element is quiet, but so sweet. I would probably act like Shiva if I were a doctor too. I hate it when people are hurt, but I love plants and herbs and helping others.  [Started: FEB 08] [Finished: FEB 15] Mr. Bride || ★★★★★★★★★★ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Watashi no Oyome-kun 🧽 This is an age-gap romance I can get behind. They are both co-workers, but she's a little bit older. She is definitely a workaholic, and doesn't think this younger guy loves her even though they end up living together. The Yamamoto brothers are all so sweet and pretty unique in their own way. I plan to watch the live-action drama too.  [Started: FEB 01] [Finished: FEB 16] Tomo-chan Is a Girl! || ★★★★★★★★★★ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! 🥋 I love love loved this anime! So I had to read the manga too. It was just as sweet and definitely now one of my favorites.  [Started: FEB 14] [Finished: FEB 20] Tsukikage Baby || ★★★★★★★★☆☆ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Tsukikage Baby 🪭 Preserving traditional performance art called "Owara", healing and seeking love. This is definitely a Josei story with a way more mature romance element. Poor Minegishi loses her mother and transfers to her mother's hometown to follow the man her mother loved, Saeki. It just so happens that Minegishi also loves him! The unrequited love never comes to fruition, as Saeki still very much loves her mother. In comes Saeki's nephew and classmate of Minegishi, Hikaru, who falls in love with her after seeing her preform Owara by herself after school. In the end Minegishi accepts Hikaru's love and the two have a happy ending. This manga filled me with an overwhelming sense of melancholy, heartache, and in the end, hope.  [Started: FEB 18] [Finished: FEB 20] Hiraeth: The End of the Journey || ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Hiraeth wa Tabiji no Hate 🥀 Would you seek death to be with the one you love? Three complex characters set out on a journey of self-discovery and love. In the end two find love and death with each other, and one decides to continue to live. |

 [Started: FEB 21] [Finished: FEB 21] Doujima-kun won’t be Disturbed || ★★★★★★★★★☆ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Doujima-kun wa Doujinai 😶 So cute! I did not expect to love this cute little couple. Since the manga has such a short format it was a really quick read. I loved the character design and the ending was very funny.  [Started: FEB 18] [Finished: FEB 22] Carole & Tuesday || ★★★★★★★★★★ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Carole & Tuesday 🎤 I loved this anime, so of course I loved the manga as well. A music duo (then trio) become friends through music, and with their passion they try to become Mar's next great musicians. The design and mood of the manga definitely kept up with what I saw in the anime. I really enjoyed reading this, I wish both were longer but the ending was nice enough.  [Started: FEB 16] [Finished: FEB 24] Knights || ★★★★★★★★★★ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Knights ⚔️ This was an incredible read! There is not another manga like it. It unpacks knighthood, colonization, the witch trials, church, mixed/black people, slavery, womenhood and bravery. Having so much in it, the action did not take a back seat and was really well done. The ending was excellent.  [Started: FEB 16] [Finished: FEB 24] Usotoki Rhetoric || ★★★★★★★★★★ ➹ 🄽🄾🅃🄴🅂 ╫ Usotoki Rhetoric 🧐 I really connected with the main female character, Kanoko, in this manga. She can hear lies and doesn't really know what to do with the truth she finds, but the handsome detective, Souma, is right there with her to find the way. There were maybe two cases I didnt like – the triplets and the "haunted house". Other than those, each case was pretty great, and I love the fact that we find another person that used to have her same abilities. By the end of the manga it made me wonder if there was something more to uncover about the origin of Kanoko's abilities, but I loved that in the end Souma & Kanoko got together. |
