| I truly regret paying to watch this thing. Ukkomon did nothing wrong. I guess continue getting bullied and neglected is better than having a digimon that overprotects you. And without Ukkomon, Lui became a edgelord Imagine you wanting a digimon, and then some top 1% of the top 1% say no, you won't get a digimon, while they keep theirs. That's some huge bullpoop. |

| Welp, this is yet another attempt to milk out the franchise with an emotional film that tries to retcon the entire lore in order to introduce a new Digimon. For those unaware, we are supposed to believe that not only an out of nowhere chosen child was actually the very first one and had a Digimon that could "make his wishes come true". How? Well of course if could contact a higher being that is never explained not questioned throughout the whole runtime. As a result, Ukkmon was ""supposedly"" the reason children have partner digimon and have a bond. Oh and how's that bond represented? Well of course it's the digivice, it's not some weird and mysterious artifact with different capabilities that you could correlate to the digital world, it's just that, and buy the end it disappears and the digimon do not so... In short, the story lore wise is a complete mess. There are way too many things that really don't add up anywhere in the franchise so for the sake of my analysis I'm gonna just pretend it is a spin-off. Does this mean the movie was boring? Absolutely not. The movie was a blast to watch for various reasons. From nostalgic soundtrack with some of the most notable tracks from 20 years ago to the characters behaving and interacting just as goofy as they did back then, it really brought me joy to see them back. They even reused a digievolution sequence in the film itself, what a callback. Jokes aside, depiste laughing my ass of at what I was witnessing within the story, the characters from 02 were the best part. Lui is fine and I can understand what he represents but he didn't really leave a huge impact on me. I was more focused on how Davis was pissed off that no-one was able to eat his ramen. So, is the movie for everyone? No, specially if you're an avid Digimon lore fanatic or analyser because you'll question everything about it and end up tossing it all in the garbage. On the contrary, if you take this as some weird fantasy film with some quirky characters that try to teach us a lesson about bonds while fighting a mysterious entity while turning your brain off, it's really good. Heck, one of the people I went to see the film with had no idea what a Digimon was, and he liked it, so there you go. |

| I legit forgot I watched this, and I wish I saw it with a friend rather than by myself because I could only raise my eyebrows or laugh at how absurd it was. Jesus. So I literally have no qualms with Ukkomon being a thing now with him being the reason Digivice exists, and everything about the stakes in the story either. It makes sense, really. Kid stumbles upon an all powerful Digimon and wishes for friends. Ukkomon knowing nothing about morality creates Digivices, Digimon partner bonding phenomenon, and brainwashes his family/friends to cater to Lui and fulfill his wish. Now they have to stop him because it got out of hand and Digimon are literally gonna flooding the world and be forced into loving their human partner. Cool. Makes sense. But right of the bat they just kinda drop the ball at the first mystery. How in any kind of way is Lui the first Digidestined? They legit confirmed him to be around the same age as 01 cast. Huh? But literally the last movies had Maki, Daigo, and Menoa? They are older than him. ...Huh? Ok. Whatever. Lets set aside the whole inaccurate premise and reason for the whole damn movie for a darn second. Ukkomon seems to be a very important threat, and the whole reason for Digimon partners. Hey, where the hell is Gennai? Seems like a pretty important time for him to uhm, inform the Digidestined?? Maybe just react to this whole info since he's THE Human-Digimon person of the story??? Like in the original series AND Kizuna? I guess we'll get an epilogue with him or someth- ok the movie just ended. I guess he just doesnt exist. Yea, just couldnt get over these egregious continuity errors. It just gets to the point where it might as well be its own little timeline, spinoff or whatever but like.....why bait us with the 02 cast in the first place? You can literally put this in ANY Digimon season (fuck, even Ghost Game) and have it fit. Theres nothing that Davis or ANY of the characters contributes that make it feel like "yea, ____ really spoke from their character and what they've been through to convince Lui to stop being edgy and have a dialogue with your Digimon." You could have ANY Digimon protagonist do it really. And because of this, them confronting Lui didnt really hit and came off preachy instead of emotional. Like...it basically went: "Your bonds with these monster are FAKE. It was all created by accident because of me and Ukkomon" and they go "Nuh uh, I know my Digimon and they arent like that. I really like them and they like me," and like yea no shit. Got anything spicy? Like hell, make Yolei go off on his ass or something. Entertain me movie. It just makes Lui kinda stupid and rather hard to...I guess give a shit about? Cus setting aside how he calls himself the first ever digidestined which immediately makes him seem like he's been living under a rock, lets see his decently done tense backstory. Lui was legit about to die as a kid from parent abuse/neglect and Ukkomon saves him, monkey-pawing it up in the process and manufacturing fake relationships for Lui ala mind control. Everythings been great since he wished for friends until he notices something aint right when watching Diaboromon Returns. But the Ukkomon reveal scene was kinda...hilarious? Like Ukkomon tells him everything in THE most serious voice ever, mind controlled parents evilly smiling and everything. And then Lui seemingly turned on some switch and went all Shinji Ikari and tried to kill Ukkomon. Like, a sheltered and seemingly docile nice kid goes school shooter against essentially a mind controlling alien is kinda....I dunno, left field? The dark backstory kinda gets counteracted by his goofiness of his actions. Like kid you kinda just got hit with the consequences of your own actions, monster eye included. To be completely honest, it doesnt even feel darker than 01 and 02 at all...like compared to Ken's backstory with wishing his brother died (which he did). Holy hell, I just realized they coulda had Ken going off on Lui about his past with his brother and be the one to actually hit the emotional highs and convince him. Fuck, the building blocks were all there but they just had to focus on the damn "Digimon are actually able to be friends with humans all along" message instead. And the movie spends the majority of the time on these plot points so I sincerely find it all unsatisfactory. Especially when theres maybe 10 minutes of action with the Digimon (dont mind no new evos, just wanted to see like Imperialdramon do their own thing with like Magnadramon and Seraphimon in HD) and little time with Ken and everyone... We only got Davis moments, which was great, and some montages for Kari whos a kindergarten teacher (awesome) and...god dammit TAI AGAIN. The film feels like a confused product. It doesnt develop like its for fans keeping up with Digimon, but it doesnt really appeal to newcomers either. Sigh... |

| A decent but also confusing movie. I don't really understand the whole Adventure timeline anymore. Lu's backstory was very sad. I didn't expect to see something that brutal. Digivices are now gone, huh? |

| It wasn't that good overall tbh. But I can't rate it low because of the great animation and the darker turn of Rui's childhood. Surprised they went so dark. Especially seeing the corpses of Rui's parents being brought back to life with a psycho smile made me feel uneasy. 6/10 |

| I'm not a huge 02 fan, so the focus on the new character only didn't bother me. Whilst I think Last Evolution had more to offer in terms of story and plot, this was still an enjoyable little movie I'd gladly watch again. I liked Lui and whilst his tragic past was an easy way to get us to care, I think it was effective. It helped that I loved his voice actress too. 02 kids don't seem worried that they'd be losing their Digimon in a few years, like the 01 cast in Kizuna. I was assuming they'd find a way to get their Digimon back in this movie. They lost their digivices, but still got to keep their Digimon. I feel sad for Taichi! Need to see that Agumon reunion. Probably best not to think too hard and just go with the flow at this point! |

| Finally got around to watching this, and liked it! Kid Ruis' English VA was a pretty shitty performance, but besides that I absolutely loved the movie itself. The character of Rui was so unlikeable tho, abused kid gets the magical ability to have anything he's ever wished for and resents the being that did it all for him. Was almost boundlessly selfish as the digidestined tried to make him understand. I couldn't see him as a hero at all, and fuck giving his abusive mum any kind of redemption...so undeserved. Wasn't a fan of the ending either with the digivices disappearing and the lore changes/implications. I guess there were a lot of negatives actually lool. Besides that the visuals were so good, it was entertaining and ofc so great and nostalgic to see them all again! Loved the huge tentacle Kaiju Digimon. |

| I had very low expectation going into this because of Mal's low rating. After finishing it, yeah i should never trust Mal's users / taste at all cuz they're the prime of hypocrisy when it comes to rating. This movie outdone all the Digimon Tri's BS yet Tri got a higher rating which is just laughable. The theme and story of this new movie is more mature and dark than the original story, and follow more about the Digimon Tamer trend. If this movie replace all the Digimons to some other magical creatures and put Mokoto Shinkai's name on it, people would have easily give the story itself a high mark. PS: Those who feel bad about Ukkomon, you have to know Lui was only 4~8 during that time , so he himself doesn't know what's right or wrong too. He is not a mature adult who can decide his own thing during that age. Also Digimon never truly dies when they're destroyed in real world, they just turn back into egg and would be reborn soon so no need to feel bad for it as well. |

| This honestly felt like a Ghost Game episode stretched to 80 minutes with 02 casts. The "character of the week" took the limelight while the main casts simply reacted. You could replace them with the characters from Ghost Game, or from any Digimon title really, and you'd still get the exact same movie. The worst part is how it tears open a new gaping hole in the lore. Hell, the movie itself acknowledges that it contradicts what we know about the chosen children and STILL chooses to go "fuck it we ball, no answer needed". All of this for what? A new character that the franchise will forget about as soon as the audiences walk off the theater? I'm surprised they didn't use this opportunity to canonize Valkyrimon and SlashAngemon. It's also funny how if you combine this movie with Kizuna, the wish becomes "everyone gets to be friends, until they're adult. Adults are alien to friendship" |

| I thought this film was better than Kizuna. The 02 cast was obnoxious, but as they got older, they became more likable. The plot of the film is a bit shameless, again a digidestined with a broken relationship with his digimon. But here they went further and brought the first of all, which had a Digimon long before the Koromon appeared to Taichi in the first Digimon film. The idea was good, but I found Ukkomon to be a bit of a psychopath, despite his good intentions. There was a moment when I thought the anime was going to turn into something horror. The film also provided a kind of closure for Digimon 02, just like Kizuna did for Adventure 01. The execution was better, even the look of the anime was more pleasant. I thought it was cool that they updated the CG of Paildramon and Imperialdramon's evolutions, as well as re-recording the songs from Digimon Adventure 02. Overall, rating 7.0. |
