Competition is heatin up for the L14 term candidates, with Izumi facing tough competition, despite being practicing for 6 months as a complete rookie. But Nana Hiratsuka is gaining competition as well, and being second is not an option, at least for Ai Kumamoto.

While Izumi and the other girls heave a sigh of relief, the former being Nana's roommate, she has expectations of her, even in the slightest of things like cycling shorts. Along with fellow seniors, the rookies are learning the best of the best, while Renmi sees Nana as her rival. Even more so that Kumamoto is working for Remu Tachibana's good graces, she also warns her if she exerts too much strength trying to cycle beyond her limits. Alongside Kurume, both girls are the idols of the rookies, who look up to them.

As the trainings continue at breakneck speed, Izumi's timing improves, and so do everyone else within the 1.5 months at the training academy. And unsurprisingly, as much as Nana came from the same background as Izumi and the others being inspired to do cycling, being chosen for the special screening to become a pro isn't that far off now, espeically with both Kurume and Tachibana look onward at them for a 750m 3-lap race. With everyone racing up to stop Hiratsuka from overtaking them, she is still the clear winner who leaves her competitors behind, and especially Izumi, with motivation, and then a beating thereafter with her being chosen as the support reinforcement player.

In a competitive sport like cycling, be the 1st, not 2nd or below.

Lots of intense training. The girls have a long way to go and a lot to learn.

I hope Izumi and Nana will become friends at some point.

The cliffhanger came a bit unexpected but i am guessing that Nana thinks Izumi can do better than she did even with her bad start.
From the looks of it Izumi still seems to doubt herself and i think if she has more confidence in herself she could perform better, Nana probably feels the same.
Ai on the other hand is pushing herself to hard she seems desperate to prove herself and the way she is training herself could actually make things worse or even lead to injury but i guess we have to see what happens next.
For now tho the girls seems to be working hard.

@Aversa I just ain't a fan of the I can be mean to you trope because I have your best interest in heart. A lot of anime do this. Like if Izumi didn't try her hardest in the race the response of Nana that I don't like you seems a bit extreme to especially tell the other person.

Well we finally got to see a bit of racing in this one with that screening near the end, it didn’t look so good as expected but I can at least appreciate the butts in bicycle shorts even if it’s CGI lol. They also weren’t going as fast as I thought they would, the up close scenes made it seem more intense tho as each racer was trying to take the lead, and unfortunately for Kuma she got overtaken by Nana at the very end. And even after taking the lead Nana gave Izumi the cold shoulder despite helping her calm her nerves before the race started, can’t get a proper read on that girl.

Besides the race, there were some other notable moments in this episode, like Nana’s line where she mentioned bicycle shorts are worn “close to the body”, that’s a weird subtitle choice but I’m guessing this means there’s no underwear under those tight shorts, the show just got slightly hotter lol. There was also that scene where Kuma apologized for roping everyone into her ambition to do bicycle racing, I kinda liked that as it did heavily impact all of their lives, but it’s a bit late for that now and everyone did make the decision themselves so Kuma is all good, even if the decision making was questionable for everyone lol. This scene also revealed just how much these girls are training, like pretty much all day, only way I’d be able to do that is if I could crank up some jams while I’m biking, certain jams could probably make you bike faster.

This cliche is seen a lot in this type of anime. the supercrack (nana) and the wannabe (izumi). It was already seen in the chapter in which Nana appears for the first time, which is the only one who notices Izumi. Which means that she sees potential in him but Izumin is still insecure even if she tries. She simply shows "drama" because of Nana's words, it is very common
