| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I've read the book, and am looking forward to Genji Mongatari Sennenki Genji coming this winter, so I thought I'd watch this adaptation in the mean time! The first thing that struck me is the masterful use if music, it is truly hypnotic, and the psychological aspects that were expanded on from the book nicely done. Genji, on the surface, is borderline despicable in many of his actions and treatment of others. But as in the book, the portrayed of the character is pretty well balanced and we are still able to empathise with him as our hero. It should be noted however that this only covers the first 12 chapters, of the 54 book. |

| i watched the old version out of the same reason, to have an idea what are this series about, and honestly i haven't understood anything in the movie, because 2 hours are just toooo short for this story :) i haven't read the book, but i'm going to soon ;) and after one episode i can say that the artwork is just magnificent! :) i fell like i also want to wear the kimono ;) the music is also nice and a good matching to othe whole atmosphere :) i loved it and i'm looking forward to the remaining 10 episodes :) |
| I wasn't so sure what I was going to think of this movie when I first got hold of it, but it didn't take long for me to fall in love once I put it on. It's simply beautiful on so many levels. The music, the animation and the characters... the story, everything is brilliant and captivating. It's definitely something I'm going to watch again soon. |

| I haven't read the novel yet, and although it was slow in some parts of the movie I still enjoyed this one. I might decide to pick up the novel in the future. XD |

| I agree, 2 hours is too short for story like this.. I didn't understood crap. Got a bit of an idea after reading the plot summary on wiki but still.. this show does time skip like nothing, it doesn't even tell the viewers how much time has passed. The art style is also confusing, everyone and their mother look the same. I sincerely hope the comment above mine is wrong. I am looking forward to the Sennenki alt ver. Hopefully Sennenki moves the story a bit faster, there's way too much unnecessary silence in this show and the pace was dreadful. |

| I really liked the movie, the BD remux I watched looked stellar. Now I am interested in how the TV series compares to this movie. Might as well read through the novel at some point. |

| Possibly one of the most horrid adaptations I've ever seen. I was never a fan of The Tale of Genji, but its historical background is interesting, however, this movie desperately wanted to be "different" and neutered the original story in the process. It has nice aesthetics and very good music, but that's pretty much it. |
