So it appears Nanahoshi wants to return to her previous world but struggles to find a solution to. Rudeus seemed both curious and anxious about her goal. The mental breakdown was really tough to watch though..she just snapped and looked broken. This show has a theme of characters dealing with their personal demons so this was another example.

I thnk it's also interesting that almost everyone decided to participate in this summoning project. What looked like an episode of tears and sorrow turned into joy and partying. Just like Rudeus says, life is full of pain.

Must protect girls are back!

Rudeus receives a letter from his father, Paul, informing him that his younger sisters, Norn and Aisha, are being sent to join him, accompanied by an escort for their safety. Meanwhile, Nanahoshi, also from Rudeus's world, persists in her research on summoning magic to find a way back to Japan. Feeling frustrated with her repeated failures, she passes out, and Rudeus and Zanoba take her to Rudeus's house to rest. This makes Rudeus start thinking about whether she's been eating well and such. In order to help her, Rudeus gets everyone together to make some progress.

Nice to hear from Paul again after such a long time. Thinking about seeing the sisters again brings back memories of early season one. With Sylphy and the sisters going to be here again, it's like a reunion. Completely forgot about Nanahoshi's attempt to go back home, but her voice actor really nailed that frustration scene. In the end, they finally make sense of the whole thing, all thanks to Rudeus bringing everyone together, even if it was just over a bottle.

Life is indeed full of pain, so it's important to let loose sometimes... ANYWAYS, THE BOY RUIJERD IS BACK OMGGGGG.

Oh nice, Rudeus still remembers who Paul is. Though I know they still communicate through letters in their world, but this one… the reply from Paul really did take a long time lol. And hey, he still doesn’t know that his son is already married… so I hope he does get to know that before his son becomes a father himself.

Also, how typical to know that his sisters don’t get along. By the way, the bit with Nanahoshi was the first interesting thing that happened this season. I mean there’s someone who is trying their hardest to rightfully leave this world and somehow get their life back on track, but hey when she failed with that magic circle thing, and then that frustration kicked in, pretty much everyone knows what kind of words to offer, except him…

… “These things happen, don’t let it bother you”, lmaooo, someone has staked a good part of their life behind this, and that’s what you say to them, lol. Good though, in the end they managed to summon an object from another world and kind of gave enough hope to Nanahoshi.

Ruijerd being back, along with both sisters, hopefully means we're done with our playing house segment for now.

Holy shit, that expression. I remembered she fell into a depression, but I guess I forgot how bad it really got. Well, my boy, Ruijerd is finally back, along with the sisters. Really, really hope they adapt Norn's chapter properly.

Also, for some additional context, the rest of the group saw Rudy and the lot leaving for the bar and decided to join, with Nanahoshi's permission. Ariel decided to let Sylphie have the day off, so she went as well. Nanahoshi sang anime songs (but is very bad and off tone), which Badigadi referred to as something along the lines of strange tunes (he loved them). Rudy is also pretty drunk at the end and Sylphie actually does a Detoxification magic to sober them both up. Dunno why they would change that, but added that for extra context.

Thought this was a great episode as a whole, even if there were some changes made to deal with some constraints that I loved from the books like drunk Sylphie for example. I loved the attention given to Nanahoshi's frustrations in this episode that led to closing herself off like what Rudeus did earlier on in the series after feeling like his life was over and heading in a direction he could not recover from, this time with Rudeus helping Nanahoshi out. She's been stuck in this world for years and even though she has Rudeus' help with mana, her circles kept on failing and there's only so much one can take with no progress till it eats them up and causes them to lose their heads in the process. Rudeus did a great job in being a friend by supporting her through these issues, asking for help through others with ideas that he couldn't come up with on his own and overall, give Nanahoshi the environment to let her get back on her feet. Now that there is a new avenue to explore with multi-layered summoning circles, Nanahoshi now has a whole new world to explore to deal with the complexity of a task like summoning stuff from another planet which gives her a lot more hope to work with. It helps that she did manage to summon that bottle too, entailing that there is hope still there for her. Glad that Rudeus again, took care of her with the help of his friends in being a support and preventing Nanahoshi from making any bad decisions that she and her friends would end up regretting. Soldat took care of Rudeus when he was at his lowest so I bet Rudeus could empathize with this situation, alongside his issues he experienced of helplessness in his past life. I just love the exploration of Nanahoshi's character and how being trapped in this world can be good for some but absolute hell for others, especially with the life she had previously and the lack of real family, aging, conveniences, normal morals, etc in this new world. Her VA was fantastic in this episode.

The friends were great, the memories at the end with the party were great. I wish Gandhara was sung since that was in the books but Nanahoshi did sing a Japanese song at the end there in Tsubasa by Under Graph. She did hum this in her introduction in season 2, so her singing this at least makes canonical sense with the actual series and the song is great so I have no issues. It was nice seeing her have some optimism and enjoy company with people from this world for once without having to put a barrier around herself. It doesn't mean she has to change her goal of leaving this planet but some nice moments along the way is appreciated.

Great to see Aisha and Norn at the end there, and even better to see the GOAT himself in Ruijerd after quite some time. Got some elaboration of the plan from Paul's letter, but it is nice seeing Ruijerd manage to help them guide the way over the year to the house here to give them a place to stay while Paul, Roxy and the others were off to Begaritt. This letter of course is old so they would already be there by the time the letter reached Rudeus but it is nice seeing Paul and Rudeus in communication with each other.

I could talk more about the episode but it's too long. I absolutely loved the episode as a whole, and it was nice exploring Nanahoshi's character in more depth and creating more great chemistry between the cast in this episode. Even got some more magic exploration and world building in this episode by understanding how magic circles work more in detail, alongside the relevance of mana in a bit more depth too. And there were some great drawings of expressions in this episode in showcasing the suffering and feeling of failure and hopelessness that Nanahoshi was going through and Rudeus was relating to from his past experiences. A lot happened in this portion but it was well put together.

Since when did I see someone looking that utterly tired in anime? This is why Mushoku Tensei is so good, the ups and downs are so well done.

The 1 score bots are crazy for this ep lmfao. Why this out of all episodes, it was a Nanahoshi focused one and not something where Rudeus did anything bad. In fact, he was probably the best in this episode for how supportive he was for a friend that he could empathize a lot with lol. It was an amazing ep and very emotional. Nanahoshi's breakdown was superbly executed too.

@Softhenic03 Cause he didnt realize how much she was bottling her emotions on the inside since she has come off as strong before, even when staking her life on it since she has been working on circles with him a lot? Dont think what he said was necessarily wrong in the situation since he didnt expect what would happen to her eventually after.

Even if it could be better, he's not the one that's best with expressing himself if the argument is something else. He struggled to even speak with Paul during their meeting in s1 and didnt find the right words to say till he actually saw paul with the help of the bartender. Based on his past and always avoiding confrontations, him trying to comfort or speak with others about difficult topics and issues is something in the past he wasnt elite at.

Everytime this show makes me say "its getting a bit slow eh" an episode like this comes along and makes me fall in love with the show all over again.
Its just really nice seeing characters at their lowest get back on their feet, or when they cant control their anger or sadness and just, fucking break, just masterfully done. same with rudeus getting dumped or sylphie raging when hearing nanahoshi caused the indicent.
This show just makes the emotions feel actually real.

It was absolutely heartbreaking to see Nanahoshi break down like that. She worked so hard to just get back home. So when it failed, she was absolutely devastated. Compared to Rudeus who was reincarnated and made friends and family here she has absolutely nothing here. Really happy that everyone came along to help her and she's back on her feet now that the new multi layered circle worked. She's a great character, really. Her smile is precious.

Aisha's back, the most precious thing ever. So happy to see her again. Also look who's with them, it's Ruijerd san.

Nanahoshi's breakdown was very realistic. Reudeus was so focused on living in this world that he failed to understand at first why she had that massive of a breakdown.

Nanahoshi is having a rough go at finding a way back home. She's been working herself ragged trying to design the right magic circle that can send her home. Ever since her reveal earlier this season we've seen Rudy try to help Nanahoshi with her magic circles. She's gone through a lot working on these things, being stuck in this much more primitive world away from everyone she cared about is a brutal reality. Nanahoshi mental state has been in decline ever since she arrived here. Reaching her breaking point after seeing this latest magic circle fail of which Nanahoshi spent years working towards. Rudy was a good friend to her this episode gathering everyone he thought could help solve her magic circles problem. Cliff providing the most help since he is a genius after all. Seeing that doll Zanoba is studying and coming up with the idea to layer magic circles to create the desired effect. Nanahoshi was in a dark place for a minute there but luckily Rudy could help her out of it. He knows better than most what it's like to sink into a dark pit, so I'm glad Rudy could bring Nanahoshi some comfort by surrounding her with all their friends and working towards a solution. Rudy getting that letter from Paul was awesome, he's got a lead on where Zenith could be and needs Rudy to look after Gus younger sisters in the meantime. Now this house will become a lot more lively with two little sisters around.

Some LN Extra Details (Volume 10 Chapter 9-11)
- She mastered the basics of Disturb magic in short time and Rudy was jealous that it was not the same for him on Advanced healing magic.
- Sylphie currently is Intermediate in Fire and Advanced in Water, Earth, Wind, Healing and Detoxification magic
- Rudy is noticing on Sylphie's hair has grown out more since her time with extremely short hair.
- Sylphie is a lot more straight forward and clingy when drunk during the celebration
- Nanahoshi is singing anime song while stroking Linia's ear. Badigadi commented that was quite a bizzare song, but joins along regardless.
- The ED of this episode is actually a real song "Tsubasa by Under Graph" sang by Nanahoshi in karaoke style during their celebration
- Total of three months have passed when Rudy's sister arrived since previous episode.

Differences from LN
- Chapter 8 slice of life chapter is skipped
- Rudeus actually caused Sylphie to cut herself and bleed when surprising her in the kitchen
- The scene where Sylphie was asking about teaching her Disturb magic are from chapter 8 and was rearranged here
- The scene Rudy lifting Julie is after they moved Nanahoshi to his house and more like lifting a baby
- The Sylphie giving Nanahoshi's knife to Rudy is not in LN
- Elinalise is not with them when they are doing the magic circle research in Nanahoshi's room.

Incredibly adorable episode. I felt bad for her. Just wanting to go back is an underrated isekai concept. Glad to see the research is coming along. I wonder if it will ever amount to anything though?

Rudi living his best life and Nanohashi breaking down made a strong contrast.

Ruijerd and Rudis sisters are back! This is about to get even more lovely!

Good ED song too.

@Homura24 Just to add a little more info, the song she sang which you mentioned released in 2005 so it was a song that was relevant at the time before she ended up in the current world. She did hum this song in episode 9 of cour 1 before Rudeus met her.

Rudeus' sisters are coming to live with him while Paul and the others go save their mother. Well, the OP already spoiled it so not much to say.

I knew the moment Paul mentioned they were gonna be accompanied by someone Rudeus knew he was talking about Ruijerd. It's been so long since he last properly appeared in the anime. So glad to see him back!

The second half of this episode was super wholesome. Nanahoshi failed her experiments and thought all hope was lost and became super depressed. Honestly, who can blame her? She was stuck in this world for so long. I'd go crazy too if I thought I had no way to return back to my loved ones.

It was super nice of Rudeus and his friends to help her. The ending alongside the celebration felt very nice. I hope she can go back to Japan very soon and without any huge issues.

She should have been wearing a mask at the beginning of the experiment, and when she collapsed she would throw it on the floor, after that she simply didn't care about anything.
