that was one evil cat, and also anyone else think that miyu works pretty slow? didn't her little monster friend see them a night ago? it took her an entire day to get there? what the hell! and shes smiling about more people dying
the only way to stop a gamer from playing is either: beat them, or wait until they get bored (though 2% percent suffer seizures

I didn't expect that either & I didn't like it. I thought Miyu cared about what happened to innocent people =(

Makes u wonder, maybe she didn't wanna stop the shinma from killing those people, maybe she wanted to see the shinma in the act?

I do also agree that it felt like Miyu actually let the couple get killed. So weird that she suddenly turned so unsympathetic.

An ambitious attempt at a dramatized social commentary; the alienated modern married couple (who "don't interfere with each other"; i.e. not taking the idea of marriage seriously) who are out of touch with their traditions (using a salt shaker for ritual purification, not liking sake) and satisfied on the surface level by their work, but it keeps them from starting a family. The wife wants a child but substitutes a pet, absurdly taking the animal too seriously. The husband reacts with panicking jealousy and the couple fall apart in selfishness right away. The wife becomes more obsessed with her cat and the husband looks for shallow companionship with another woman because it's easier. The couple's self-centered resentment and refusal to face their problems leads to hatred and destruction where there should be love and creation.

It's awfully sluggish for the first third or half, a problem more than one episode of this series has had, which is regrettable since the second half is a little rushed in comparison. The social commentary is frankly a bit pat and hand-wringing, as well. I do like the idea of leaving Miyu almost totally out of the story for an episode just as a change of pace...or rather the series just putting out a stand-alone short film rather than an episode of the serial story. That the cat is a supernatural monster really has nothing to do with the story.

No wonder Japan's birthrate is so low. The social commentary was a bit obvious but I didn't think it was THAT in your face. Most of the episodes in Kino's Journey are more in your face than this and everyone praises that show to hell.

The fact that the cat is a supernatural monster is important because it is implied that the cat exerts some type of psychological pull over the woman--- otherwise her actions are too abrupt. The cat can also be said to be a manifestation of her suppressed desire for a child, and in this series emotions that are not dealt with properly become monstrous.

This was a fantastic episode. That cat really freaked me out even before it started doing creepy things. Then it starts opening doors by itself and the woman's up at night talking to it and she built the nursery. I said the guy should throw the damn thing off the balcony and two seconds later he grabs it and is about to actually do it, lol. Most of the episodes until now have been a bit disquieting because you know something is not quite right and something's about to go bad, but this was the first one to make me a bit spooked wondering what this creepy cat is going to cause next, but really it was the woman going off the deep end that was so unnerving.

I think Miyu care more about stopping Shinma than about humans.

Sure, she tries to avoid killing them herself but she never tried to help the people who got stuck by a curse (people stuck in the film, the petrified women, ect) , she let the bored guy fall to his death trying to follow her and she drank the blood of several of the survivors (even if it was for mercy.)

At least this anime is balanced, we have had one evil cat and one evil dog so far !

In a way, that cat was right. Their relationship is doomed if they let him destroy it.

The obvious layer is that the woman wanted kids, but the husband didn't. He just wanted them to stay out of each other's way. He didn't realize that she was lonely. She was lonely by herself. So she clung to her pet, in this case a cat, and treated it like she would an actual baby. The husband gets annoyed and tries to look for a connection to another woman. "I don't want to be at home right now".

Though it also shows the jealousy of husbands who have actual babies. Their wife suddenly prioritizes their baby, and the husband gets jealous that he's not getting as much attention. So he lashes out and has affairs with other women. Also worth noting that a few weeks after giving birth (a few months?), the woman isn't able to have sex. So lack of physical intimacy after having a baby, because they actually can't, could lead to the husband cheating.

It also has a commentary on home wreckers. In her eyes, the wife has the perfect husband. He's a working man, he's handsome, and he seems nice enough. She thinks that the wife is stupid for not appreciating him.
