Wow, I was not expecting Askeladd to die this season. And he even killed Sweyn, which I thought would be the main focus of season 2. This is such an exciting development in the story! I'm really curious what Thorfinn's next move will be, considering that moving on isn't exactly his strong suit.

Oh man, the most interesting character in the show has died. I was looking forward to his schemes. I wonder who will replace Askeladd in Season 2?
It took me a while to get into the show, but it really picked up when Thorkell caught up to them. I'm excited to see what season 2 has in store.

Nobody.
The first series adapted the "prologue" of the manga, the second series will start on a very different situation and be closer to the main narrative, wich makes t fundamentally unlike the first one, wich can be a positive.

Have a good time!

This anime has the most historically unfounded story I've ever seen, along with the most childish dialogues and unrealistic outcomes. I only watched it this far because I can't stop midway. I created an account on MyAnimeList just to vent the anger I felt after watching this crappy anime. It's a shame that people put it in the same category as Berserk and Vagabond.

I rate this season 5/10. I enjoyed it a lot, but also found it irredeemably stupid in some regards.

Good:
Atmosphere, visuals.

Bad:
Characters are nonsensical and badly written.

Canute is the worst offender here. His character transformation makes zero logical sense. A twink effeminate boy who's been emotionally stunted his whole life and can't even speak due to his traumas, cannot possibly do a 180 and become a resolute, outspoken and charismatic man instantly, just like that. It comes off as not believable and unrealistic. Overcoming mental barriers takes years of practice. It's not something that can be flipped off by experiencing the death of your mentor / adopted father.

Thorkell is another character that is badly written. He's portrayed as an honorable warrior. But somehow, Thorkell doesn't care that because of Askeladd's obvious intervention in the duel against Thorfinn, Thorkell has lost his eye? An eye that's crucial to a warrior's life? Any warrior that doesn't have depth perception (you need both eyes for that) is doomed to fail.

Thorfinn is just an angsty teen. Very annoying to watch. I don't care if he "wisens up" later on. I'll still hate him. Very bad MC to have in a story.

I see, all along it was a modern, grotesque caricature of Berserk in a shonen style where pathetic edgy teenager Thorfinn is Guts and the Canute is somehow is Griffith now, the arc with a mercenary leader Askeladd who became a stepfather for Thorfinn is ended in a pretty ridiculous way for Askeladd himself and anime as a whole but alright, who cares. I've heard that second season is somehow even worse, very inspiring.

1) Thorfinn Gave Some Damn Chills Man . First , When he declares his revenge on boat & Second , His Shout Towards The Dead Body . Man , That Was Something.

2) Opening Songs 1 & 2 Were Amazing But Not A Fan Of Either Of The Endings Though.

Amazing, but at the same time it feels so bad to end like this. If not the fact that there is S2 already waiting for me, it'd feel super empty right now... actually I do anyway.

@Ba-Cii10 Sure, buddy, what I really needed is another typical comment 'you didn't understand, lol, kek, ha-ha'. It's pretty easy to notice who has something to say and who doesn't by the content of comments. Of course you liked this trash anime, it's not surprising me at all, it was made literally for people like you. Good for you, I guess.

So, I don't know what to say. The number of anime I have finished crying can be counted on one hand. By the middle of the season, I started to empathize with the man and I ended the season crying. I would like to thank the Massket team for being able to convey such a work of art to us by making us feel it.

The death of Askeladd was handled masterfully. Now what will Thorfinn's character be about now that his reason for existence is gone? It's an interesting existential question, what is the meaning of life once your single minded focus in life slips from you and becomes completely unattainable permanently?

Askeladd vi Britannia commands you: You must live!

I've never felt such a complicated mix of emotions for a character's death before. Exiting as both a kingmaker and a kingslayer has to be one of the more memorable ways to go out, but sucks to be Thorfinn though. Absolutely amazing season overall.

Askeladd is such a complex character, and a well-written one, of course. Choosing to protect both his motherland, Wales, and the prince in exchange for his own life was unexpected. Never thought he would choose death like this. Also, the way he went down—decapitating the King of Denmark and taking out most of the royal guards—was badass.

Overall, the first season was really enjoyable. The last episode was an unexpected banger. However, Thorfinn's character is quite weak up until now; he was basically a side character this season. I'm expecting strong character development from him.

Overall, 8.5/10 from me.

Askeladd was an incredible fucking character. Really well done on the writers side. And his final speech to Thorfinn gave me goosebumps. Other than that this season was great, and I'm definitely looking forward to season 2. I'm already hyped
