Cute and funny. I like it. I don't think this should be all that controversial really. It's clearly a Shoujo meant for girls or lonely women like myself to project themselves onto and imagine a super protective male loving them. It's fiiiine, let us have our fantasies! T^T
It has the decency to be honest about what it is from the start at least. It's clearly not trying to get people to think of this as a parent-child relationship before turning it romantic all of a sudden, like another series that shall not be named.

The guys permanent dead fish eyes are a nice touch haha.

The first episode of this anime is like several anime that have been released before.

In my opinion, it's like other copy and paste.

Why do Project No. 9 anime always look so hideous? Here's probably another controversial anime, one that might result in some nice back and forth. The obvious bait being the apparent toxic relationship that might be forming and undeniable age gap especially considering he literally raised as a parent. Putting all that aside, she is extremely cute and it'd be a waste to not sit through this mess.

Maybe try sleeping?

@fancyjasper I agree, let fantasy be fantasies! There's a reason grocery stores (at least in America) used to have Harlequin novels lol. But I don't agree the dead eyes makes me wonder... what has he done in his yakuza past?

Coming after the amazing animation of My Happy Marriage, the animation is low brow. The stylization is cute but the animation is choppy even for the first episode. It kinda makes me want to read the manga still tho (⊙ˍ⊙)

..And its funny, no one is concerned about him being part of the yakuza at age 16! like that isn't grooming at all! But no one cares if its male.... not that anime isn't always asking for suspension of disbelief anyways...whatever

...I'm not liking it, for the obvious reason that everyone already knows, but it's not making my blood boil... yet. I'll give it a few more episodes, but I am NOT liking the age dynamic, nor the idea that the girl is basically predisposed to falling in love with her "father" (Scare quotes because not blood related). Despite this, I haven't punched a hole in my monitor yet, so I guess it's not an insta-drop. I refuse to give this episode a score, for reasons of not wanting to jump the gun on my inevitable post-dropped feelings (Or me possibly doing a 180), but this episode in isolation was "fine". Dread coming when?

Oh yeah, art-style is pretty nice, standing out pretty clearly from the "generic anime style" that a lot of modern stuff conform to.

I enjoyed it, the supposedly controversial topic of their age gap is only a big deal because he's 26 instead of 1000 but its the same romance fantasy concept we're used to. Also, so far its presented as an overprotective older brother figure and a one-sided crush. as opposed to the creepy groomer narrative being pushed. I thought it was a very cute first episode.

So true, Kamisama Hajimemashita is a shoujo classic and no one bats an eye on the huge age gap there

well....26-yrs old is definitely not old! i don't see much of an age gap here but this is Japan we're talking about (about their culture of age gap relationship problem/issues) and they even mixed in a Yakuza blend here huh...let's see...

The art style is very appealing. The story begins with a 16-year-old male protagonist taking care of a 5-year-old girl. After 10 years, the girl grows up to be a high school girl. In order to protect the female protagonist, the normal route would be for the male protagonist to appear at the school as a 26-year-old female teacher. However, unlike the traditional route, this time the male protagonist infiltrates the school disguised as a fellow student.

she can't get away because he's NOT letting her get away lol they're both too attached to each other, and it's kinda cute in a way. Keiya's probably realizing that Isaku's no longer the little girl he picked up and comforted, and he's starting to have feelings that he doesn't want to put a name to.

Already read the first 4 volumes and I agree that this is so wrong irl because his age gives him power over her inexperience. Wish it wasn’t romance, but oh well. The controversy keeps me watching. It’s fiction and people should have what they want, but I hope teens who watch it don’t think it’s okay and then end up in abusive relationships. That aside, the art is nice. I feel bad for her because she really wants friends and I hope the creep doesn’t isolate her.

watching this felt like being held hostage. the dead eyes and ume-chan's voice are so unsettling together.

no but seriously the animation quality and this story are so... early 2010s?? like it's giving itakiss and sukinayo but with a really uncomfortable age gap.
y'all can have fun watching this to 'pwn the sjws' or whatever.

Ok, so I'm going to completely set aside the age gap issue between the 2 MCs. There is a 26 year old man in a class full of 16 year olds. Why is no one like, 'dude... how many times did you fail to still be in grade 10/11?!?'. There might even be teachers younger than him at that school. I get that it's for the sake of the story so they can spend more time together, but why didn't they at least make him a Teaching Assistant or something? He bribed the school to be there in the first place. He could have just bribed them and could have hung around her class room (... like a creeper? Sigh. Either way, if the author wrote it, that's the way it is and the characters wouldn't question it any more than they are having a full grown man hanging out in class with them).

I can see why some people might not like this but so far, it seems good to me. He doesn’t seem to be attracted to her at all. She’s the one with all the feelings. It’s almost like Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting but the characters are older. There was no romantic feelings in that one at all. It is weird he followed her to high school but that might just be a yakuza thing. He did get the grandfather’s permission after all. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m gonna stick with it for now. Besides, I love Akari Kitou’s voice. It’s so chill sounding.

The only thing I don’t like is that wavy look to their eyes when they’re facing sideways. It’s so weird.

Yeah not gonna lie this was super uncomfortable to watch. I think the male mc needs some mental help if he is acting like this. Also what's up with that goofy-ah chain piercing thing from the lip to the ear? That looks like torture to wear all the time. Also also the eyes look super weird sideways but I'm assuming that how it was drawn in the manga. The comedy is pretty descent though.

@Marinate1016 I mean I get your point but as someone who is anti-censorship when it comes to these kinds of things I understand why this makes people uncomfortable. It's gotten to the point where even criticizing a show like this gets anime fans calling other anime fans a "tourist" and telling them to "separate fiction from reality" which I don't think is very helpful when it comes to creating a non-toxic environment for people.

Idc if you find it uncomfortable that’s cool just don’t watch it. When you start calling people and authors pedophiles and advocating for them to be arrested that’s when you cross a line and become a tourist. Tourists are not just people who don’t like things, but want to change what makes anime anime. as I explained in the mushoku video.

@Marinate1016 Like I said I'm anti-censorship so I agree that people shouldn't be calling for authors and shows to be cancelled but I've noticed a lot of people in the anime community use insults like "tourist" in a way to shut down any discussion or criticism of so called "problematic anime" from anime fans themselves. If we are going to use that term it should just be used to describe people who want to change anime to fit their agenda when they themselves don't even consume it (or are consuming it for the pure interest of wanting to change it to fit their agenda).

I tend to watch and like most of rom coms I watch. But I couldn't really enjoy ep1. The darkish lips distracted me a lot! Animation was cute and beautiful but some of the colors were torture. I'm going to give it some time and try to watch ep1 again...

Very weak, I was expecting a romance anime with more impact.
Maybe it will get better as the episodes go by.
Something that bothered me a lot was when they are sideways, their eyes look strange.
I liked that the male protagonist looked like a manhwa character.

I am getting a feel of "The yakuza's guide to babysitting" vibe here.
It has the same baseline, a girl living in a yakuza household and a yakuza is her caretaker.

oh my... i promise i'm not gonna come here every episode to talk shit about this anime but, what the fuck did i just watch???
so i'm just finished yamada-kun 999 and i'm in a shoujo mood and i looked up what we have this season and here we are.
i don't know why i thought this was a good idea. well, i love yakuza anything, and i love even more good looking yakuza, so i saw romance and keiya and thought hmm, this might be just what i need but it wasn't.
i don't know. it's all wrong. the first three minutes already gave me a bad feeling and i have so many questions... why is her body so weird? didn't he practically raised her? why does everyone's eyes look so dead? TWENTY SIX YEARS OLD??? i wasn't ready to be reminded of why i gave up on shoujo on the first one i've tried after yamada left me with a warm heart. );
i don't know if i give this the three episode chance, if i give up now or if i watch through the end just to feel disgusted... this is super lovers all over again.
i honestly don't know exactly how i feel about this now. but it's not good.

Was gonna say the anime was pretty tame for the controversy, and the score, but it got to the bed scene, and I visibly got disgusted, lmao.

The context doesn't help this show at all. The 10 year age gap, and him being her guardian since she was 5 doesn't translate well to a romcom setting.
And if we can somehow ignore that, the visuals aren't exactly great either.
Even for Project No. 9, this is kinda bad looking at various scenes.

I found this anime after watching a clip on youtube. As I was curious I checked out the first episode. I enjoyed the story where the girl is constantly trying to make keiya acknowledge her not as boss's daughter but as a woman. Her desperate attempts makes it fun to watch. A soothing atmosphere indeed.

Watched the first ep to see how bad this anime really is, and I can't express how I'm feeling about this relationship other than disgust. The whole thing was just very uncomfortable... the tones of this show could have been much better if the male lead wasn't A 26 YEAR OLD, the premise of this show would have been a lot more nicer if this man wasn't an older dude trying to pursue a literal MINOR. The behaviour he showcases in this show is very predatory and inappropriate towards the poor female character.... The romanticisation of the predatory behaviour of the 26 year old is very very unsettling, making this show very utterly and completely bad.

The main male character is fucking creepy as shit. The way he looks, the way he acts and the way he talks. Everything about him screams predator. If this anime has good writing, he will be executed or excommunicated from the family by her grandfather before all is said and done. Preferably executed.

After losing parents at the age of 5, Isaku lives with her grandfather, leader of the Senagaki Gang. Uto Keiya has been her caretaker ever since.

Isaku wants to make friends and a boyfriend, thus chose a school far away from her house. But little did she expect her caretaker to join her high school to protect her. He’s 26, and he wants to protect her from the boys. She has been so isolated that she doesn’t even know how to make friends. On top of it, Keiya keeps talking to her in front of everyone.

Keiya is so good at being the class leader that Isaku wonders who’s this new character in him 🤣🤣🤣.

Isaku is introverted. I like that Keiya is comforting her by giving her advise, but I don't like how he makes moves on her. It feels like exploitation, intentional or not. His moves screams less family-type and more romance-type. (I’d love it if there were progress before this happened, but now it makes me feel like I’m watching a hollywood scene in an anime)

She doesn’t know to play volleyball but she’s signed up for it 😅.

Keiya is over-protective, possessive, brooding, and sensitive to Isaku’s words.

Wait, is foot allowed in volleyball?
