It's good to be back, it happens often to think "yeah, Death Note is cool but not a personal top 10 favorite of mine at this point" but to be honest i'm still fond of it for how it managed to deliver the great expectations given by the early plot and for how it has become a gateway series for multiple people and even personal friends who weren't even interested in anime to begin with.

"This world sucks"... yeah, even if it sucked less hard in the mid 2000's.

"i had no doubt that it worked" yeah, sure (in fact, he contradicts himself later)

Great interactions between Light and Ryuk since day one, great reactions for the former when he discovers the Death Note power is real, how he's straight up honest about his mission no matter how questionable it can seem for someone else, and obviously great italian dub that is considered among the best in this country (and it's seriously something notable - pun intended - considering the great tradition of this job in italy itself) for very good reasons.

I was surprised about how like litterally dark the show was. I mean like the lighting of all of settings. I watched the all the live action ones exept for L: Change the World and Death Note: Light Up the New World. I am also in the middle of reading vol. 5 of it. I have only watched episode 1 though over these past few days and I think I am liking it so far. Others are sayin they dont care for it or its too fast or too slow but I loved it. I think it gets slower but other than that it seems fine. I am also in love with Light and might be falling for L soon... (,,>ࡇ<,,) I'm pretty sure I'm straight but Misa is also fine asl!! Love her style and the overall goth/y2k graphics of the series.

I thought the series started off strong with the contrast of Light and Ryuk being bored of their respective worlds and reacting to this in different ways. Although this is supposed to be a slow burn series, we're already seeing signs of Light's madness and God complex through his facial expression and how easy it was for him to get into the spirit of killing.

My favorite scene was Ryuk just straight-up INHALING Light's apples.

Rewatching the first episode because I had stopped. This time I will finish it.

I think Light's original goal was pretty good... eliminating the bad guys from the world. But then becoming a God? That's pretty crazy, but I can say it makes sense when anyone has a book as magical as the Death Note in their hands.

I wonder if Light will write his mother's name one day or not.

The first episode of Death Note, titled "Rebirth," is an incredibly strong start to the series. It introduces us to Light Yagami, a highly intelligent high school student, and Ryuk, a mysterious and intriguing figure. The episode wastes no time in setting up its dark and thought-provoking premise, drawing you into a world where morality is blurred, and the line between justice and murder becomes increasingly thin.

From the moment the story begins, you can feel the tension and curiosity build as Light comes across an object that changes his life forever. The episode is paced perfectly, giving you just enough information to keep you hooked, while also leaving you with a lot to think about. The animation is sharp, the music enhances the eerie atmosphere, and the voice acting is spot-on, especially in capturing the complex emotions of the characters.

Overall, "Rebirth" is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers or is looking for a series that challenges conventional ideas of right and wrong. It’s the kind of episode that grabs your attention from start to finish and leaves you eager to see what happens next. Highly recommended!

I put off watching this show for WAY too long man. The OP is great, and this one episode does an amazing job at setting the tone for the show.

I haven't finished reading the manga yet, but it's October, and I just had to start watching this.

This show has been out for nearly 20 years so I've had some things spoiled for me but the first episode the good and entertaining nonetheless. I like seeing Light go from "Dunno if i should be the one killing ppl" to "Nah, its fine if i do it" in a matter of seconds. Also really like Ryuk, he just seems like a silly little death god guy who likes apples. Also like the dramatized scenes of Light writing in the book. Dont really have too much of substance to say on this first episode but still liked it.
