Let me start this off by saying Bleach is my favorite anime/manga but while watching the newest episode of TYBW I was hoping for an anime only scene of Ichigo vs Uryu and well if only 2 arrows out of like 60 hitting ichigo counts as a fight kubo has officially murdered what could’ve been an Vegeta/Sasuke level of character especially how he was introduced he was the only person fitted to be Ichigo’s true rival and that just went all out the window. Putting aside that aspect there’s also how one of if not the most versatile character (having both swordsmanship and archery) yet we see him in Hueco Mundo we see him use the same sprengen again and again and mind you after Hueco Mundo HE DOESNT EVEN HAVE A “REAL” FIGHT FOR THE REST OF THE SERIES he’s completely sidelined somehow in the Fullbringer arc (Which the arc OPENS UP WITH HIM BEING ATTACKED) the Captains for whatever reason are the ones to have an actual fight with the Fullbringers (NO Uyru shooting a barrage of arrows at Ginjo and missing them all DOES NOT COUNT) I rewatched the fight and Ishida somehow just disappears while ichigo and Ginjo continues to fight and now we have Ishida vs Jugram I was absolutely not excited for this at all I’m not even gonna spoil it but I swear they talked for more panels then they actually fought this is an absolute embarrassment from kubo my only hope is this is apart of the “bad ending” that the anime only scenes are supposed to fix because that was sad to look at especially since this arc almost felt like his utilization was supposed to come into full affect this arc but I think he might’ve fought the least in this arc out of every character soi fon managed to fight more times then ishida IN TYBW how is that even possible I seriously don’t know. (Not to mention how even when Uryu is fighting and I understand it would be very overpowered for someone who’s ranged to just hit majority of his arrows so him missing pretty much all of them most of the time despite being a master archer I don’t have a huge problem with but I don’t really see the point of the arrows not doing much damage when 90% of the time he fires a barrage they all miss and he’s firing hundreds of them) Now with the TYBW arc being over we get a 10 year timeskip which I think is one of the worst ideas I think kubo has ever had in terms of making this series longer but of course if he felt he wanted to end it there that’s fine. there’s a lot more I could say for why this character was done a lot worse but there probably only 7 Uryu fans out there in this world including me so no one would really care if I went on but I’d like to know what other people think maybe everything I’m saying isn’t justifiable I’d like to hear others opinions on Ishida character |

gonna keep this short if bleach is actually your favourite animanga which i highly doubt lol "hitting 2 out of 60 arrows" you do realise uryu is not their enemy and only joined yhwach to gain info and kill him why tf would he actually try to kill ichigo there lmao?also unless im wrong they meet again in soul king's palace where the fight can happen it was never gonna happen here what are you even waffling about |

OT: I never liked Uryu's character and I honestly don't have any good things to say about him. The only thing I like about anime!Uryu is that he has Sasuke's VA. |

SPOILERS BELOW Ishida vs Jugo is great, I like that fight and the subtext behind it, I feel like Jugo died thinking about the promise he made with Bazz-B that both of them would take down Yhwach... what doesn't make sense to me is why he suddenly decided to help Uryuu after killing his own childhood friend. Did he regret killing Bazz-B? |

Here’s what happened with Bleach. Once the shinigami characters got introduced into the series, the entire original main cast (save for Ichigo) got sidelined into obscurity and character assassination. The shinigami cast was far too popular to waste time on the other characters. The greater problem here is there were too many of those characters too, so many of them also got sidelined in favor of the most popular ones. Kubo was constantly working with dozens of characters all the time since soul society started. This left many character relationships and storylines in the series underdeveloped, poorly written, and just forgotten. Uryu is probably the worst offender. His character was completely wasted by Kubo because I guess Kenpachi needed another fight scene. |

I love bleach, by far my favorite anime and manga but everything has its flaws and this is a big one for bleach. Hell forget the original main cast, even important soul reapers down the stretch were either underutilized or turned into basic fodder to allow the stronger (or more popular) characters to shine. It really is the struggle of having such a large cast of characters that you can’t just leave out all together, so it does lead to some characters feeling underserved by the end. |

I have a lot of problems with this series and this is probably chief on my list and why I consider it one of the worst shonen out there. Kubo started off everything fairly strong in the first two arcs, then everything fell apart. Some of the worst character writing out there. I hate that the series quickly devolved into a popularity contest where the most popular characters got screentime instead of the characters that needed it. I won’t spoil it, but certain scenes and fights happen later, and I’m sitting here like, why should I care? What significance has this character ever had? You waited until the series is almost over to show me some boring backstory for a character I have no reason to care about. It’s very telling that Unohana just died last season and no one even remembers her. The series spent no time developing that plot. It just suddenly happens, she dies and it’s over. Story does not progress the series. Not even characters progress the series. Kubo simply had an obligation to show off as many of the popular characters’ powers and abilities as possible, so he contrived ridiculous scenarios (Quincies were somehow hiding in the shadows of SS for a thousand years doing nothing but waiting around) where this could happen instead of actually writing a story or developing characters. It’s just so bad. Kubo is a great character designer and not much else. |

It’s just so bad. Kubo is a great character designer and not much else. Eh I disagree with a lot of this but totally respect your views/opinion. I do agree that the flaw with Bleach’s characters derives heavily from public influence, for example seemingly killing Byakuya just for him to show up some 20 chapters later because people love him and complained. Many of my issues with the story of Bleach come from TYBW, I thought the main story leading up to it was fairly well written, not perfect but no story is. I think Kubo did his best with such a large cast of characters, there were obviously glaring examples (Ishida) but at the end of the day, Bleach is a pretty simple-minded battle Shonen I think the story is well written for what it is. In terms of TYBW, I feel that the first part of the story is well written and don’t have much issue with where the Quincies come from or why they come back at that time. I feel as tho it is well explained and the history between soul reapers and Quincy is well documented in the story. I think Everything but the Rain is a fantastic piece of writing, maybe one of Bleach’s strongest imo. So I disagree with you about the story of the first half, aside from some character assassinations/underutilizations here and there. Without spoiling anyone, I do agree with your assessment when it comes to the second half of the arc, the storytelling definitely gets far lazier and everything happens for hype/to shine a spotlight on popular characters. It’s a shame, but I think Kubo is a talented mangaka who was heavily pressured to conclude TYBW in timely fashion, forcing him to drop a lot of the plot points and character interactions that were building both during the first half of the arc and the series as a whole. I think it led to fights having unsatisfying conclusions because they had too grand a plan behind them that couldn’t possibly be finished on his given schedule. There are certainly better shonen stories I agree with that but I don’t necessarily think Bleach as a whole is poorly written, I do think Kubo is a good author who couldn’t do everything he had hoped to do with concluding the series. |

Yeah I don’t really agree with that. I think he had some very good ideas but executed basically all of them very poorly. Everything but the rain is very overrated and there are many better backstories in shonen. The entire Quincy plotline in the final arc is ridiculously contrived to me, the transition from Fullbring and the setup is nonexistent and the explanation is nonsense, but I guess we’ll just agree to disagree. No series is perfect, but I genuinely struggle to think of anything this series did that was legitimately good, even before the last arc. The Fullbring arc is terrible for a lot of reasons, and the arrancar saga is extremely bad despite having occasional decent moments here and there. It’s almost as bad as the last arc. The best parts of the series are in the Soul Society arc, but even there the writing isn’t that great and it introduces some of the series biggest issues moving forward even if they were handled decently there. The first arc was conceptually the most compelling, but most of those ideas were scrapped in favor of cool ghost samurai because Kubo needed some way to figure out how to avoid the shonen jump axe. The whole thing is very flawed at its core. It feels like Kubo had no idea what he was doing all series. The character writing is just so bafflingly bad to me. I don’t care about any of them at all. It feels like the series lacks genuine emotion and everything feels forced. I’m not a fan of this series and I don’t think he is a very good writer or storyteller. But I do respect his artwork and character design. And I respect your opinion as well. |

Don't forget that there will be Cour 3 and 4. Also by knowing the manga you know about Wahrwelt and what will happen, which is also when the first clash between Ishida and Ichigo happens. In manga those few arrows were shot in Royal Palace later in plot not here, so calm yourself down [if I remember correctly]. Aswell as Ishida vs Jugram will happen in last cour, aswell as the extended final fight most likely will arrive. He's having 3 fights, Soi Fon and other captains barely have a single one or two, like Shunsui. Edit: Checked in manga, sorry for misleading it has happened in manga aswell in that scenerio, idk why my mind went bland on that. |
