I root for Eren. I don’t see him as a villain and I don’t see him as a hero. The closest character label for Eren, I think, is the anti-hero.
The line “even a lamb content in it’s pasture cornered can turn into the Yeager” from the 1st season is basically my stance on all of it.
A line I tend to live by is “if you can dish it you better be able to take it” which I guess is a less idealistic version of the golden rule. I don’t think you can justify that you can do something but then no one else around you can do it.
Everyone in Attack on Titan is a murderer (all the main peeps, not the random villager). Each character has their own justifications for what they did, but they all ended up taking another life, they have all done the same thing.
I like Eren. He compares himself to Reiner on doing something horrible for their family/people. Yet, Eren doesn’t try and play the victim card like Reiner did. Eren accepts that the things he is doing isn’t right, he accepts he is killing others, and he doesn’t make excuses about it. He doesn’t try and convince himself that he is the hero. (All the other characters repeat they are sorry about killing others and that kind of ticks me off. Because to me that implies they recognize they had another choice but they chose to kill them instead. Like the amount of times I yelled at Armin to knock them, his friends, in the head with the gun instead of shooting them is ridiculous.)
For sure, for sure, my opinion/way I see all of this can change throughout my life, but I’m with Eren on this one. Everyone has put him through so much and everyone has asked him to throw his humanity out the window. (I think this specifically happened when he had to battle Annie knowing the Titan was Annie, his friend and his comrade.) but then they get mad when Eren no longer has that humanity/remorse anymore.

You reap what you sow, if you can’t take it, don’t dish it.

Absolutely on point. That's why there's more to this than just who's right or wrong.

It’s not about whether it’s real or not. Eren’s ideals are genocidal, and so by rooting for him, you’re accepting his ideals. It’s obviously not as bad as encouraging a real life nazi as that has real world consequence, but it’s still pretty damn weird to say you support a character that thematically represents Nazi-esque war criminals. How many times does the series have to spoon-feed fans the sentence “Eren is wrong” for y’all to get that he’s the bad guy?

Saying “you reap what you sow” just misses the point. Virtually every genocide in history has been justified by its perpetrators as an act of justice, and Eren is no different.

Most of the AOT fans are not yet matured. That’s why they support Eren and his ideology. They completely miss the messages and themes of the story Isayama is trying to tell us.

I know but it’s just soooo difficult to misread it 😭. The good guys will literally heroically state the themes that Isayama wants to convey through the most overt and unsubtle exposition you’ve ever seen (not that that’s a bad thing), and yet anime fans will literally say “umm actually I think the Nazi is right”.

Completely agreed.

The author even had to go out of his way and convey an obvious thing that, "Genocide is evil" and there's no justification about it through Hange, where she literally shouted and said this while smashing her fist onto a table and yet people still missed it or chose to stay in denial and are instead cheering on Eren for mass murder. Honestly I feel so bad for the author. He expects too much from the fandom.

Well that's anime fans for you. You can't expect much maturity from them and especially from all the hardcore Yeagerists and king Floch stans.
"Muh people", "Muh island", "Glory to the Eldian Empire" and other random nonsense.

You’re probably right. A lot of the time in general I tend to forget that the vast majority it the anime community is probably only half-matured teenagers.
