The source material is a web novel that was published as both an LN and manga series ~1 year later simultaneously. I don't know why people always assume a manga is the original source when 9 times out of 10 it's a WN/LN.

There's also apparently a second LN/manga series that follows his early life.

I just realized earlier but I didn't mean anything bad, I'm just disappointed because a lot was skipped and it interfered with the story

Seems like another generic self-insert power fantasy but the pacing sure is fast as hell, I almost thought I watched a recap with the entering school and suddenly slaying a demon at some tournament. At this rate I'm sure Matty is going to have a 16th crest by the next episode.

They didn't show his progress or anything about his family when he reincarnated it just skipped to when he's heading to the city. In the manga they started from the begining and his progress in the new world when he reincarnated but in the anime it just skipped a lot of important information.

I will assume that the anime is a rushed adaptation of the original source. Considering the fact that we went from his introduction to a tournament where he immediately fights a Demon. That said, this is terrible altogether... First, the MC is a Big Fish in a small pond. I have enjoyed stories like this before: I.E, One Punch Man, The Boys, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and even Tsukimichi. But this... It's not good.

First, he claims that the Demon is superior to him in Mana amount. Ok. he still has a fighting chance because he is secretly experienced. It's just the fact that he's weaker and younger compared to him at his peak. But then it's stated that Demons are incredible and overwhelmingly powerful characters in this world. Ok, understandable. But what doesn't make sense to me, is how he was vastly overpowering the Demon to the point of making him run.

But ignoring the end segment. This just is not good. The dialogue felt bland and fake. He lacks any character. The comedy fell short because of the pacing. And this was literally just him doing the "impossible" and having everyone fawn over him. This could be executed beautifully. A sage moving up to a different era where everyone is weaker. Hell, Jujutsu Kaisen did it with Sukuna. But here it just fell short.

Hopefully, it improves the same way Tsukimichi improved.

Unfortunately, the pacing of episode 1 feels very rushed, and the story moves along quickly without giving enough time for character development or world-building.

Heeeh, this quite the fast paced 1st episode. I like it.
Tho, i'm sure folks who haven't read the manga or novel have problems understanding what's going on exactly.
I wouldn't fault anime onlu folks for dropping this right here and now and or giving this a 1/10 for not explaining shit.

You say "Instinct" I say lazy writing. But okay.
Also my man is literally called Hero(s)home. Meanwhile her last name is very fake XD. It's like if you wanted to combine something like Lucius with something else. Well at least they stick with the theme of Germanic (Dutch, German, Österreich etc.)
EXCUSE ME, I was about to throw a mild complement but there's literally 0 explanation.
Like that cut at 17:30 is insane "Let's get to it" (alright here comes the good part let's see how it works in the world and why it's been forgotten) Proceeds to skip to:
Yay! I did it, I can do it now! LIKE WHAT. You can't just say "I thought them" without actually teaching or explaining anything. That is extremely unsatisfying. Even the worst explanation would have been better than no explanation at all. Even if he'd just been like "okay guys... just try doing magic without speaking but instead feel what you want to do" or some bullcrap. That would have been better because even though it would make no sense that they never tried that before at least there would be some explanation as to how incantation-less magic works.
If nothing else at least the pacing "gets to the point" I guess. Like they are either skipping over multiple days pretty fast in one episode or stuffing it all in one day despite that not making a lot of sense. So the pacing is nice, it has some charm but damn is this shit XD
