I disagree with demon slayer, but as you said it's stupid popular so I get it. same with this latest season of aot. basically the only thing that I think should have been there is cyberpunk edge runners.... which is only my 4th or 5th favorite show this year. |

I don't dislike lycoris. And honestly I would pick it winning over AOT or demon slayer. since the former was imo the weakest season of aot and the latter has already won 1 extremely undeserved AOTY. But that doesn't mean I think lycoris deserves it. I really don't think it does. I don't mind it winning best original even though I liked vampire in the garden more, and if there was a "best duo" award lycoris would easily take my pick, but still. lycoris definitely isn't as popular nor as highly acclaimed as love is war or made in abyss. specially love is war. S3 of that show being a hit would be an understatement. at least abyss season 2 has slightly less members on mal so you could argue it wasn't as popular this year here on mal, but love is war reception wise is WAY above it. |

Deal with it Enjoyment and personal taste wise, I only enjoy kaguya sama slightly more thank fruits basket. both of them are in my top 30 favorites. but to me production (music directing, art and animation) are pretty objective factors. I personally don't really like demon slayer as an example, but I can't say it doesn't have better production than both of them. the reason this is shocking to me is because I really, really wanted fruits basket to have better production while watching it, because I wanted to give it a higher score due to how much I liked it. the directing is fairly by the book, with no scene being anything impressive, which is a far cry to how unique and playful the directing in kaguya is with it constantly pushing boundaries to display the show in the best way possible. and what I am describing is not a comedy only thing, look at the directing of the original steins;gate, or sonny boy or beastars. I just don't see why you could thing fruits basket directing is.... special or more than just ok/good. the animation is the same, the show always looked good, but I can't think of a single scene that was "impressive". which is something I can't say for kaguya. and like come on, the music? I remember one good track from the background music of fruits basket. that's it. the rest of the tracks were super forgettable. and again. this isn't bias either, there are plenty of mid/garbage shows that I think have better music than both of them. even ignoring the soundtracks, the openings for love is war are on a completely different level, even though fruits basket also has solid openings. honestly, if you took the angle of, "fruits basket is better, because it has better characters and that's the most important part" I wouldn't even argue with you. but I think you have a massive bias here when it comes to production. if you ask people who feel the same about both series, I'm certain most of them would agree kaguya has way better production. |
