Two weeks ago I had the biggest shock of this year when I saw that Red was going to be in cinemas in my country (Czech Republic, Cinema City chain). Before we had Mirai (in a few small cinemas) and Belle (Cinema City too, but I completely misses this one for some reason), so it is not the first anime movie, but it is a first shounen movie and in a big multiplex cinema chain at that. Simply unprecedented. Maybe this will be once-in-a-lifetime thing, or maybe we will get other movies as well in the future...

I noticed many people in the comments saying that this movie was the first OP movie they got to see in cinemas, so it seems like there might be other people with the same experience.

Feel free to share which country you live in and whether you get anime movies there, or if this one was a first to you too. :)

We got it here in Poland too, while before we haven't gotten too many. We had Mirai, Belle and JJK0 recently, but before that I really don't recall any anime movies being aired in our cinemas. I hope this means we will see more and more anime movies on big screens here!!
Wish they could also play live actions, like Tokyo Revengers. 😩 Would give everything to see that on a big screen💔

Greek person here. Pretty big surprise since we usually only get Dragon Ball (although I don't remember any local theatrical dragon ball release since the frieza film) and Ghibli films.

We got it here in Brazil too, and although that’s not new( we’ve had both DBS Broly and Superhero as well as My Hero Academia Movies 2 and 3 and Jjk 0 and Belle) it’s the first time we had a One Piece movie released, and what an experience it was.

i live in greece and this was the first anime movie they ever brought to our country, it was the first time that the cinema was so full with people. I hope they will understand now that there are people in our country who watch anime and bring more movies in the future!

This was my first OP film i saw in theaters, i live in the “good o’l U S of A”, it was such an experience for me like all my emotions were high, from new genesis to where the wind blows, theres too much to be said about this movie and I’m going to watch it again but in sub, i saw it in dub first and it didn’t miss at any point and the transition from english to Japanese and back to English was flawless (for me) i smiled wide, screamed in anger, laughed a lot, and cried hard, one piece is notorious for making you feel like your apart of the ride and this movie definitely did that…….Well actually Uta did that, I’m not gonna go i to spoilers but this is a movie everyone should watch regardless of where you’re at in the anime and manga, and it’s definitely movie of the year and my favorite movie of all time, the film red, THE FILM RED IS REAL!!!!

Canada has been getting lots of the releases lately, which is awesome. I remember a few years back, there were releases for North America, but it seemed like only in the States so we were constantly out of luck 😔

It surprisingly got a release in Pakistan as well. I dont think I have ever seen anime movies get released in my country through a cinema chain before. Some were released unofficially or had just one or two showings but OP Film red is the quite possibly the first one to officially release in a long time.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

Italy here.
We are not strangers to anime movies in theaters, but the amount we got definetly increased in recent years.
I remember Ghibli movies, the two pre-Super Dragon Ball movies and even One Piece Gold being special events with screenings for a limited number of days, while in the past five or six years anime movies have become way more common, a less heavy gamble for the companies, and therefore a lot more frequent.
The Heaven's Feel movies, One Piece Stampede, A Silent Voice, JJK0 etc have been very successful.

One Piece Red went a step further and had two days of screenings in original language with subs this week (this was a first for anime movies here), and it's been a blast. It will come back in theaters next month dubbed.

Same here in Norway. :D The second shounen movie (the first was Dragon Ball) and the first One Piece movie are shown here. I was very surprised and fixed tickets 3 weeks before. :D Similar to you, I hope this is not a one-time thing and that they continue to show future shounen movie at the cinemas.

first time I've seen an anime movie being projected ever since I came here (except belle). Even though I dislike One Piece, I will watch it.

In Israel (My country) we get that movie in all cinemas. The anime movies have started to come to my country cinemas last year with the Kimetsu No Yaiba (Demon Slayer) Mugen Train movie which came in July by Yes Planet (Now Planet) and for me and my friends it was a big shock since most of the anime community here in my country already watched it and despite that the tickets to the premiere were sold out after 3 days and it made the cinema to expand the release the screening time from a day to a month. After that we got Fate/Grand Order second movie (For a limited time), BNHA: World Heroes' Mission, Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of the Starless Night and in Jjk 0 the rest of the cinema companies started to screen anime movies too, along with Yes Planet which also organized a fan screening at a 4DX theater which the tickets for this screening were sold out by a hour(!). Since then we also got Dragon Ball Super Hero movie, The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie (Which was for a limited time in Yes Planet), Doreamon: Nobita' Little Star Wars 2021 (Same with Quintuplets) and now we have One Piece film: RED which got 2(!) fan screenings after the first was sold out.

Before all of this we got only Ghibli films but between 2000-2005 we got the 4 first Pokemon movies, the Yu-Gi-Oh movie and the first InuYasha movie and after that? Anime films didn't come frequently until the mentioned above.

And that's it. Na-no-ne/De-aru/Relo XD

It looks like this "revolution" will continue because we are getting both SAO Progressive movies in February, though it is probably only a one-time screening.
