It was a great and memorable experience watching this one, but I found it quite hard to find similar stuff to this one apart from it's own franchise using the recommendation feature, some shows seems to be added just because of the dystopian/cyberpunk setting or a group dealing with crime and terrorism using advance technology which are indeed aspects that makes them similar but some of them are made with more intention of catering a particular group of audience rather than creating something more original and detailed, I'll give one example here without mentioning the title as it's pretty popular, way more popular than this movie for people to take my opinion as hate, it's a blend of Blade Runner, Equilibrium and Se7en, basically it lacks originality but despite that the cast is human and the work is no less risky and tricky as section 6's yet the dynamics doesn't reflect cooperation and is filled with over the top and exaggerated conversations which only shows unprofessionalism and little to know seriousness and dedication for the job, the show already has an advantage with human cast to showcase vulnerability and emotions basically a very grounded and realistic depiction but only did a poor job in characterization and the antagonist is John Doe from Se7en even his demise is basically the ending of Se7en.

Can someone recommend me animations that are actually similar to this movie.

Thanks, I guess it being an animation was the reason I didn't bother looking for other works of the director which I usually do for any other medium.

I’ve recently watched Urusei Yatsura’s beautiful dreamer from the same director in preparation for the remake this season. It made me want to watch more of his work.

The Patlabor franchise by the same director is the most similar. Especially the first two films. The Patlabor OVA and TV series have a more light hearted tone but are still good if you are interested.

I'm not too sure about whether it'll work for me or not after reading Synopsis and tags but considering the impact of Ghost in the Shell on me, I don't mind giving it a try but would like to see more works like Ghost in the Shell.

It's quite confusing from where I should start, the Original Video Animation I guess that's what you meant by OVA is a prequel to the movies you are recommending according to this site and the animation made for Television is an alternative version.

The OVA is the original work and the one the movies are based on. It's got 7 episodes, 4 are of the less serious type (not as much as the TV series though) and the last 3 are of the slower more typical Oshii style.
The TV series exists in a completely different canon.

the obvious ones, Patlabor and and Sky Crawlers are already mentioned.

The question remains, do you expect to find something that is unforgettable like Ghost in the shell?
Or something that gives you a similar distopian feel?

My personal answer to the first question, are movies like Perfect Blue and Paprika.
If it was the distopian feel that got you, but you are prepared to lower you're expectations, then you might want to check Harmony (not to be mistaken with Harmonie), or Appleseed. Though personally, I can't recommend them, since I felt they weren't that great.

And honestly, finding something similar and on par with ghost in the shell, will be quite impossible.
Though there is this very short movie, that I could advice you to watch; Je T'aime.

I think the other suggestions are probably better. I was just saying that movie has me interested in his other works. I’ve seen ghost in a shell a while back and it’s a classic.

I've started believing that there is some magic that only the director got here. You got me with memorable thing, I've watched an 22 episode only to disappointed by the lack of originality and writing and it is really not similar at all considering the impact of Ghost in the Shell, the movie is almost perfect, every single line in the movie contributes to the context, the word philosophy in itself is gold, the animation is surprisingly very detailed considering the time it came out.

The short.
Same author as Ghost in the Shell.
arguably about Batou's dog.

That's a terrible idea. I mean if the OP already disliked Psycho-Pass (oh no, I told its name) he would hate Mardock Scramble.

a lot of these are on YouTube but some not great picture quality

I don't see how Kite or Urban Square or Wicked City is anything like GITS.

The characters in Mardock Scramble are not as linear as the ones he claimed to dislike.

Cope all you want but you can't deny the fact the the anime itself goes between being average and terrible.

Thanks, Boogiepop Phantom is already on my list, someone already pointed out this to me that Cyberpunk has always been a hit or a miss in Japanese animation and needs constant experiments to deliver some real good shows but still majority of them aren't bad in general and have something unique to offer to the viewer like you said.

Thanks, I'll give it a go, the reason why I didn't like Psycho-Pass was it's lack of originality and the amount of bad original writing, character writing especially. It's a movie series, so, I guess watching one at first will be enough answer whether it has all the elements done right for me and potential for future good to watch it as an whole or not.

Though not iconic Bladerunner-esque cyberpunk, but if want an unforgetable, sci-fi anime with more philosophical ideals definitely check out ERGO PROXY. Also has a badass female lead like GiTS.
