| Which is better between Toaru Majutsu no Index or Toaru Kagaku no Railgun? Both of them has been rot in my PTW list |

| I really disliked the Railgun anime, but liked A certain magical index much more. Railgun felt like filler besides with the Misaka clone saga in s2 which is in Index season 1. |

| It really depends on whether you have time to read the LN, if you can read the index LN, then watch index anime. But something to make clear is that, it is not a good adaptation, a lot of fanservice scenes are forcefully stretched or added by the director, while a lot of character arcs and information are discarded. If anime only, then railgun is better, since it is easier to get into with better pacing and production value. However, it also have its own issue, of large amount of filler and anime original, changing an action shounen to Cute Girls Doing Cute Things, which is very serious in season 1. In addition, flandarization of characters also happen in the anime, which wasn't present in the original manga, making certain characters like Kongou and Kuroko much less likable or reduced to a one-off gag. Overall, all Toaru anime have their issues, but railgun is easier to get into before moving to the source. While the Index anime could turn you off a lot more. |

Apparently the best viewing order is index 1-9, both rail guns, then the rest of index 1 and 2. |
| Doesn't matters. But you should watch To Aru Majutsu no Index first, because Railgun is a spin-off with the story linked with Index, if you watch Railgun first, you will not understand some references to Index. (Particularly I recommend you to not give up to watch Railgun if you find the first season boring, make a effort and see until the second) (Misaka best girl <3) |
| I enjoyed both series. Index is slower at first because it has to set up the story, whereas Railgun was able to jump right in because Index laid out the foundation. If you are going to watch them, watch Index before Railgun. Chronologically, seasons one and two of Railgun happen during season one (and I believe the first episode of season two as well) of Index. |

For a reason one come out after another, Index introduces you to the whole world of the series and characters including the reason why everybody likes Misaka the MC of Railgun, it's in Index that you know her. If you start with Railgun you'll be skipping that and you'll just dive right into slice-of-life and lose a lot of the world building. I disliked Railgun because of that, story wise it felt like filler(maybe somethings were I don't remember) I thought the story would be the same as Index but from the point of view of Misaka the MC, which didn't happen. Ironically the sequel Railgun S was exactly that which was what I wanted and that one was really good. In terms of story the only season you can skip is Toaru Kagaku no Railgun(season 1), you should watch all the rest. Whatever you do, don't skip episodes, because even though the story is the same the point of view of the MC is different in each Index and Railgun. Well to sum it all up, start Index than come back to this thread and you'll understand what everybody is talking about xD |

| You do realize Railgun is a spin off of Index right? Most of what Railgun does is expand on events and characters that are introduced in Index. It can somewhat stand on its own but I'd always recommend to give Index a shot too, especially if you end up reading the source material. |

| I made it further into railgun than index, but to me both were a waste of time. The series is up there with some of the worst anime i've ever watched. But most people enjoy it, so you'd probably like it. Watch index then railgun~ |

yep i did watch like the first 2-3 episodes and its just slice of life with not much action unlike index |
| Back when Railgun S aired, I started to Watch it, and after a bit in, I foound it so awesome I wanted to see more, and found out it was the 2nd season… of a side series (I watched teh UTW fansubs, and they did sub Index II as well, that's how I found it out). so during the railgun S airing, I did a heck of a Marathon watching tourgh index first and then railgun untill I was in phase for the Railgun S series. NEVER DO THAT, as index ep. 10-14 spoiled the entire railgun S series. Thus I redommend you to Watch either Index or railgun, trough and trough, and only one at a time, and I recommend the railgun part of the sisters arc first, but other than that, the index series is way to go if you love action with some magi... errr scientific Powers, and railgun if you love mikoto! can't wait for the third season of railgun lol |

Animation and staff plus the episodes needed to flesh out the arc, index is too rushed to give one arc the importance that it derserves plus the animation is inconsistent. Railgun s ep 2-16 was the best of the raildex universe till now. |

| You should watch/read Index first, because Railgun only a spinoff of Index ... For things like which one is better, I think you can see their score first.. Railgun anime is more enjoyable, and Sister Arc in Railgun is far deeper and better than the same arc in Index ... |

Yep index III is made with the requirement that u have read the light novels, they dont explain shit to anime onlies, from now in it will only get more confusing, so be ready for it. In an interview the director explained that he will make index III with only highlights shown from each arc meaning explanations will be mostly cut out. |

| Their 3rd seasons and "Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator" have been rotting in mine as well, until now. But back to your question, I prefer Index personally, but it's also fresher in my memory. Seeing as I just re-watched it and everything. After I do that for Railgun maybe I'll have a different answer. |
