Why does the childhood friend exist...

only to suffer? She's actually one of the more annoying childhood friend characters I've seen.

But unlike other series where although there's a main girl, it's still a harem/love triangle and you can kinda root for the other girl, in this one the main pair already have sex on a regular basis to do "mana transfer". So the other girl's existence is moot.

i dont think alto and vermeil ever had sex they kiss each other often but thats all

Literally what I think every episode, but I keep thing this absurd idea that she'll get some kind off character development. But I don't think that'll happen anymore.

I mean if you watched the last few episodes that clearly have left the harem side and still want to root for the childhood friend then this is definitely your fault. the show hasn't even remotely resembled a harem for a few episodes now, it's been focused on vermeil and Alto so I do not know how you still see it as a problem. in a normal harem where it actually is a harem then I could understand, but this shoe hasn't resembled a harem for a hot minute

I like the childhood friend, but obviously she lost from episode 1 and I doubt this one will turn into a harem

actually it's not a harem, and I am thankful for that. Not that I don't like harem anime, I mean a well written harem like dxd and villainess do deserve more rating and I like them but this should not be a harem for the shows sake.
And so the childhood friend is just for some comedy moments nothing else, unless they put the end like children's story where the female lead goes back to her relam and the childhood friend takes the chance kind of thing, but seeing the story till now I highly doubt it will happen.

Because that's whole point of her - comedy relief. For example in manga she is so desperate that she wears slingshot swimsuit (that one Borat is famous for) just to get attention.

It's already 10 episodes and only relavant romance is for Vermeil, Lilia is joke character. It's not a harem.
