THIS IS NOT A HATE POST

**This is my opinion plz, don't get mad**

Made in abyss contains many disturbing scenes where children are abused. This aspect of the show is often criticized.

What are your toughts about pedophilia, child abuse and exploitation of children in anime and media in general.

I personally think that it's totally subjective. It depends on how the anime portrays child abuse. For exemple in made in abyss when someone abuse or exploit a child, he is clearly portrayed as an antagonist. We can also all agree that murder is a an even more cruel crime than pedophilia. But we still have Anime Kill Count videos and that doesn't bother anyone.

I'm curious about your opinions!

Not all stories are supposed to be all sunshine and ponys, some stories will be dark and it is you as a viewer to decide if you want to watch it. From what i’ve seen from the past forums some twats have at one point accused the author of pedophilie n such. When in fact he isn’t, the story isn’t supposed to be a kind and nice story. It’s a dark and messed up story.

In my opinion I love the anime. It gives me chills, of course I find it disturbing but thats the reaction I have when it comes to the certain scenes.

As an author I myself write dark scenes; but not as far as Made in Abyss.

I think it makes no difference.

Shows display disturbing and horrible things sometimes. Viewers can choose whether to watch or not

- Game of Thrones: Rape, Incest, Pedophilia

- Twilight: Pedophilia/Statuatory Rape

- Euphoria: Depiction of underaged teens nude/having sex

All of these may offend some people, those people may not choose to watch.

But - each of these shows/movies is very popular. Most people will still watch and enjoy a show even if it has disturbing things or things that would be inappropriate in real life.

It’s important to realize that all of these shows/movies are using actors. That includes anime. It’s not real - it’s actors or voice actors portraying younger characters. No one is harmed in real life.

Depicting horrifying things is nothing new to media, and many compelling stories involve uncomfortable and bad events.

I mean there are many anime in which people die. Those never get criticized. The reason why this isn't bad is because of the portrayal.

no matter the author's effed up fetishes, it is still integral to the show. sure, it throws you off quite a bit if you think about it, but at the same time it adds to the gruesome elements of the show. personally I don't agree with it, obviously, but that's the anime world I guess.

I don't remember any "P" type stuff happening in the show. I've only seen the show though, and not the movie or the season currently airing.

now a days people use the p word very often like its nothing and as a victim of child abuse I dont like this . When I was a kid I was sexually harassed by pedophiles 2 times , all these people use the pedophile word so easily that it drives my trauma back . smh stop with this already let us enjoy the show , if one thinks smth is different then dont try to be a hero and correct it rather gtfo and watch smth else ....smh .
and dont use that p word so easily ever again the real victims know what it actually means and how dangerous actual pedos are , im saying this from my experience .

Sexual violence is still often very disturbing, one reason being that women and children are generally defenseless, whereas men can far more easily be seen as combatants and such, thus it is easier to accept their suffering, although then again it is not uncommon to see women and very often even children murdered in anime and I don't here much complaining then.

To me, I think people need to grow up with their outlook on life, we are happy to see people get torn to pieces but can't take a little bit of rape or whatever? I think its refreshing that many anime shows include it to help drive a story, especially when we are so hard to shock with violence now.

Made in abyss is little questionable at times for sure with borderline child nudity, but is it that bad? Definitely not. In this show I think they mostly do it to make Riko a more vulnerable character and make us feel uncomfortable, though this isnt always the case. At any rate I have never picked up on them actively trying to make it sexual, the 'infamous' toilet scene is a little weird sure but I never thought it was overly sexual and thought it was tame maybe it's just me? if anything the alleyway scene was worse but it served a purpose..

Regardless of the content, I want to retain the right to choose what I watch and don’t watch. I don’t want anyone making that choice for me.

episode 4 also had a lot of creepy moments. between the really direct innuendos between reg and the hollow girl. to the Rika scene in the alley (thank god it was censored because apparently it was worse in the manga). and the toilet thing also was a bit weird and fetishy. it's not that any one of those things is so horrible that it should be banned in media, more that the presence of all of them definitely made me question the creators intent with including them. because that many is a bit gratuitous.

I think it happens in real life and thus it has a place in our fiction. Now and Then, Here and There has child rape in it and it done very well in my opinion with the girl in question becoming much more mature and gloomy after it happens. She fears and hates men and doesn't even trust a boy her age to not hurt her.

But then you look at something like Mahou Shojo Site and realize that not everyone can do it well. Those people do it for shock value and E D G E.
Everything has a rating these days and whether you want to see it or not is up to you entirely. Personally, it doesn't bother me for many reasons.
