I watched it fansubbed about 8 years ago so my recollection of a lot of the events are a bit hazy. What I do clearly remember though is that I enjoyed it at first. When they started the tournament and spent the rest of the series on it my interest plummeted.

...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.

Watched the anime years ago. The anime was okay.

I'm currently reading the manga, which is about a million times better and it continues further with the complete storyline.

I saw the similarities between Flame of Recca and Yu Yu Hakusho, but I thought the latter was much better. I thought FoR focused too much on fanservice, I couldn't stand it. Oh and I disliked the tournament hostesses in both shows.

Well, I strongly recommend the manga more. I'm someone who can't stand fan service, but I wouldn't say it's as excessively redundant as you would see in Love Hina or Onegai Twins.

The closest thing you're going to get to more anime is the PS2 game, Final Burning which has animated scenes by the same studio and same seiyuu cast performing. Hell, you get the ending to the manga in anime form via this game.

I only saw the beginning of the show. I thought it was good at first but then just lost interest. Maybe I'll check out the manga one day.

This really reminds me of my childhood. When I was a kid all of my guy cousins would go to my house just to watch the daily episode of Rekka no hono on TV.

well, i guess that is a very shonen ,and i mean VERY SHONEN version of yu yu hakusho, that, yes i know it is shonen too but that was a GOOD SHONEN(one of the few good shonens in the market) anyways rekka has all the dumbness of the shonen, dumb reiterative dialogues that claim obvious things, terrible lacks of logical thinking, cadboard characters with close to zero depth, elementary kids style of speaking, stupidness at is max and a very silly and kidish style of writing in general. This is one of the worst not only shonen if not anime i have seen in my life...

Confusing. 5 episodes in and no explanation on anything. Why did fukos wind weapon fix itself? It broke in episode 3. The wiki says that kagehoshi put a brain washing device in it. But the anime says that's just a side effect. It's said that recca broke that device. But based on the wiki, what he broke was clearly the weapons main source of power.

Edit: got my answer 16 episodes later. Still confused on the death tournament. Youre supposed to kill your opponent, yet they keep winning if the other chooses to not go on

Dated and cheesy as hell, tried to surf in the success of yuyu hakusho but here the script is very poor. Still, it's better than other shounen like saint seiya or alike.
