Ngl, the romance of this movie was undercooked & she forgives him way too quickly. Still a great movie in my opinion. |

She had a crush on him since day one. Also, she was insecure, anxious and had low self esteem. Those people tend to believe that they deserve the suffering they go through, so she did not held the grudge. Also, there is a major time skip at the beginning and normal people tend to move on. Dunno how you can consider this "unrealistic". |

Do people forgot that there is a time skip in the movie, people move on, so you just want to hold your grudge for years, she is not some edgy protagonist. |

oh thats because the movie was MAD RUSHED like im not kidding, they left a fuck ton out of the manga, u really shud read the manga. they animated like 350 pages of the manga into probably 20 minutes, thats how rushed it was. the teacher in the starting of the movie has more of a role in the manga. many scenes are altered from the manga. there's a whole part about how nishimiya writes a letter to naoka who reads it sarcastically before beating nishimiya up behind the hospital there's also a flashback of shoko's mother who was in a situation of bullying worse than nishimiya's and how the mother got rejected for giving birth to a "defective" child. all of this is still just a part of what was skipped. bro like they animated FIVE BOOKS OF MANGA INTO 125 or like 130? minutes. all the feelings were rushed "A Silent Voice: Anime vs Manga – All the Anime" https://blog.alltheanime.com/a-silent-voice-anime-vs-manga/ i read the differences from this a like a good year ago when i finished the anime |

He clearly shows how ashamed and sorry he is with everything he does. Showing a true intention of making a change in your life is way more important than saying sorry, that's something everyone learns when becoming an adult, which fits how old they are |

I always thought that it was because she felt socially misplaced, she felt like a burden in any position and easily attached to people who accepted her condition, Shouko did not have the self-esteem to face those who mistreated her as she personally felt guilty of being herself. That is why Sahara was so important to her and her relationship with Ushio developed like it did. I didn't feel like it was forced as more like a characteristic of her own personality, a character capable of holding and acting by grudges would behave differently, Shouko didn't face Ushio until the end |

That's just the type of person she is. Even when he was bullying her, she tried to be friends with him. And always took his defense when he was being bullied afterward. Shoko is the type of person that always puts the blame on her rather than others, thus she believed it was her fault she was being bullied rather than his, and if you didn't understand that while watching the movie, I think you missed a lot |

She forgave him easy maybe since she thought he was hot, and wanted to bang. Lol On a more serious note, it is mainly since the author wanted to portray it this way since not forgiving him would hinder the message of the story. It would be a pretty dark message if changing yourself changed nothing. Also, making a female into a waifu who loves the mc is far more marketable than just a friend who forgives the mc. That would be a bit of a anti-climax. |

I read the manga a while ago but I’m pretty sure it’s the same. In my opinion she was very lonely, She didn’t have any friends- And when he came into her life ofc she ran away but without a ‘voice’ to really speak her mind she went along with it. I feel like she hung out with him because she was very lonely, all she had was her sisters and the people at her sign language thing who was pretty much all older people. Plus remember she thinks everything is her fault so maybe that had to do it too. I don’t think she was in love with him but the fact of being loved and loving someone was something she desired, someone who wasn’t her family. That’s my opinion though. She could of easily mistaken her feelings, because again she never really had a good friendship or relationship outside of her family. She seemed like the type of person to put all the blame on her, she thought it was all her fault though she was the victim- When he started bringing the other people from their elementary together, she didn’t feel as lonely and somewhat had the past on paused- I don’t think she ever really forgave anyone, since she never saw the others as the problem. Even after him being in the hospital she felt the desire to reconnect everything she ‘messed up’.. even went out of her way to try and befriend the girl who made her life hell. Honestly it’s just sad. |

domata said: Im reading the replies and im sadly seeing that people are severely missunderstanding the characters really though, the movie doesn't do that much for it's characters. they're not exactly 'deep' enough to be misunderstood. MC is one step away from being a self-insert (that step being his backstory and his predictable response to said backstory) and the girl is somehow an even worse victim of poor character writing—ever the hurt puppy, ever the damsel in distress. why am i supposed to think this film has value if the characters feel so cardboard? i'd genuinely like to know how others get past this, because i just don't know how to empathize with a piece of white bread. EDIT: i know i sound like a bit of an asshole above, but i'm only frustrated because i really wanted to enjoy this. i am the kind of person the darker themes of the show are meant to appeal to, and there were some moments that, had the characters been believable, would've been deeply emotional. but they weren't. i couldn't care because they felt so, so unrealistically one-dimensional. and it sucks. |

She always wanted to be his friend when he was still bullying her, that confused him and he bullied her more. But when he finally says he wants to be her friend she is eager to say yes. It’s just the person she is, and if you don’t like it that’s your choice, but whether you like it or not, this movie is a masterpiece. |

Don’t tell me you didn’t even pick one thing out of many. Let’s start, 1st when she saw him (teen) she ran away but he followed her and he gave her, her childhood notebook means he kept that for years then he tried to get to close to her by following her around then he learned sign language then he tried to make her forget about childhood memories by making new good memories. Then he accepted all trash more than he deserves. He didn’t even tried to defend himself. Then he tried to make her good friend with all those people who bullied her in childhood which mean he wanted all bad memories to fade from her mind. He took all the blame without any complain even though everyone else bullied her in one or another way and she saw that he genuinely regret about past and blame himself more than he deserves however everyone else try to be innocent and no one was ready to accept their mistakes. She saw all those efforts which make her fall and forgive him. She was kind person which was developed from her childhood coz she tried to make good frindship with her bullies. She also blamed herself (it was wrong but she didn’t want others to suffer means kind hearted) I can write more clues and signs but I have to go watch again u will get it |

Its hilarious to see the amount of BS being spout here by wanna-be elitists. Not only did he suffer the consequences of bullying, he did apologize, not through words(though I'm forgetting the exact dialogue) but through his actions which the guy above me has laid down. He learnt his lesson and worked hard to EARN an apology. On Shouko's end, all these actions are more than enough to earn an apology if she had normal esteem but from what we have been shown, she seems to have low self-esteem which means that the bar for forgiveness is far lower for her. Therefore, psychologically speaking, it makes sense that he would be forgiven. |
