The individual-tactics lacking Aoi is put on the wayside, and other players like Asari Marches Jun take the spotlight. But despite Aoi's massive handicap, others like forwarder Yuma and defender Togashi are able to express their positions well. And it takes a mindset to recoup from someone whom has always had a self-centered way of playing to become dispensible, which to get selected into Tokyo Esperion's A Team, is almost next to impossible.

Aoi's worst nightmare Akutsu reappears again, and from the tryouts, absolutely NOTHING has changed from the last he saw of Aoi, the same that Coach Date Nozomi has already surmised that Aoi won't last long in Tokyo Esperion. Akutsu may sound nasty, but it's for Aoi to truly realize his standing and resolve if he was to make this a long-lasting career. And going straight to Coach Nozomi for help, certainly is the only way that Aoi'd break out of his dilemma spell.

Kaido Electric's daughter Anri certainly is interested in Fukuda, and that may be why Hana has such a good recollection of the once brother-in-law being young and an up-and-coming player before being a coach. But the problem now is Aoi and how to get him to accept the most basic of basics, and Hana will not relinquish her being his first fan, still full of support.

Aoi's awakening to call back home to discuss the total cost for his 3 years in Tokyo Esperion, Aoi's prepared to give it all back within the duration both in cost and willpower to get through his lackluster performance to train the basics day in, night out. But he can't do this alone, and both Ohtomo and Tachibana provided help while remaining covert as much as possible, and Togashi (at first) ain't gonna care about anybody's business.

It's high time that Aoi actually learns how to balance both training and rest so that he can work to his best, and there's none other than his roommate Togashi to refuel Aoi's spirit to push himself. Hopefully, he would turn out to be Aoi's first big break.

Looking forward to a new and refreshed Aoi with Togashi's much-needed help.

aoiii oh my god😭😭 my heart sank when the game ended. but its rly refreshing to see how he's actually struggling and working hard for it. he's seriously doing his best. asking for advice, where to improve, How to improve, doing it, getting extra practice, etc.

im liking yuuma motoki more and more and remembering how he's voiced by enoki junya just made me even more biased lmaoo😭

and roomate guy is pretty cool. cant wait to see his practice session with aoi

Just a quick note to those who're not very familiar with football about Ashito's issue here.

Receiving a pass when you're just standing and waiting for the ball is easy and it's what Ashito has been doing for the most part in high school, he waited until his team mates delivered the ball and then he went on his monster runs.

But receiving the ball when you're in motion is a completely different game and requires a lot of practice and experience, yet this is something that's counted as something basic in the professional/semi pro world for obvious reasons.

The youth players have had all the basics drilled into them since their early academy days, which is why it's a nonsense matter to them. Normally a player of Ashitos caliber would've been able to do this without any problems, but his unique surroundings and how they all relied on Ashito has lead to this particular predicament.

seeing aoi at his wits end was hard but that's reality, his struggles are so real but it's also nice to see him working thru it n his tryout friends always got his back which is so sweet. blondie is brutal but nothing beat akutsu's foul mouth why is that boy so rude for no reason. yuma certainly is charming he's got that "it" quality to lead a team. looking forward to next week

Good VA from Aoi. I don't like the ost on early eps. It's not fit the mood at all. Basic animation as always. And unnecessary cut from manga content imo.

In the manga the coach also review other player:
-Ohtomo is the best one out of all new players, he's calm, he's able to adapt fast and can work with promoted player
-Tachibana is below him. His skill is good but his "individual tactic" isn't that good, and he's not confident in the match, not scoring a goal affect him
-Top 3 players from coaches: Yuuma, Kuroda, Takeshima

Overall, a could've been better eps

Now I understand the relationship better.
Look like Hana will go with Ashito after all, because Kaido Anri will probably go with coach Fukuda. In fact, it kinda make sense in financial aspect because Anri is the daughter of the club's sponsor, so the club will receive a lot of money if Fukuda married with Anri. (Of course, I still prefer all male characters to stay single)

The club's youth league fee is even cheaper than I thought, confirming my theory that collecting fee from minor soccer is not the club's main income model. Most income is likely to be from sponsor, or from a contract. For example, if Ashito get signed as a pro in a future, or get sold to another club, or get his own sponsor, Esperion will get a lot of money from that.

Looking at Kid Hana backstory, she actually was so lucky back there. His father married her soccer idol mother and there they become a new sibling. Yeah, a lucky and easy way for her to have coach Tatsuya as the whole just for herself, or that's how she might be thinking xd.

Then, oh look, how the genius forwarding dude manage to take all the end praise after he successfully leading the last instruction into a nice result. Feels bad for Aoi. But what can he do there? He's lacking the basic of the basic, so ofc he need to working very hard from the very beginning again to catch up those people.

Aoi even begging up to those stone-faced coach and trying hard every night. Still that's how him, his eyes showing a lively determination after receiving all those bad mouth. Especially from those jerky senpai, bringing parents into the hate. Smh. The other trio tryouts also helping him too. Then for the final person to support Aoi development, its none other than his intriguing roommate. Heck yeah. Let's see how the pompadour dude shape Aoi into a better player.

I really like sports anime and had high hopes for this one after the first few episodes. But i cant stand to watch it anymore.

In the first few episodes they foreshadowed that he has a great sense of the position of his teammates yet he doesnt understand the basic tactics of soccer and only plays like an egoist. Now he cant even stop the ball properly.

Sorry but how did this guy even get signed? I dont have problems with struggle and hard training, its actually the best thing about sports anime, but they just overdid it.

I dont want to watch a sports anime where the mc cant do shit while being seen as a genius. Still waiting for a single enjoyable match.

I couldn't agree with you more.

We understood that the mangaka wants to show us that he has nothing special compared to the others but still, control/pass we learn that at 6-7 years old, how old is he now? it's a bit ridiculous. How many episodes are we going to go through just so he can learn to control and pass, it sucks

Is he really in motion when receiving the ball? I thought the issue is Aoi is not efficient enough when receiving the ball. When you see his teammates, the ball stucks like a glue to their feet when receiving the ball, but in Aoi case it keeps bouncing up from his feet, so it kills the momentum when they practice passing,

Aoi still working on his basic skills getting them as polished a possible. Even after he scores the first goal of the practice match Aoi teammates won't pass the ball since he can't control it well enough. Every time Aoi gets the ball it knocks away from him too much. He can't stop the ball right in front of him like you're supposed to be able to do with a pass. Its a really basic and important move in soccer to be able to kill the ball as it gets to you. Otherwise your opponents will take possession if you knock it too far away from yourself. Aoi can't kill the ball so his teammates won't pass it to him. Which is very sad and depressing for Aoi because it makes him feel utterly useless. On top of that bully from the tryouts coming back around and the stern coach telling him he won't improve. Aoi is in a low place not being able to rise to everyone else's skill levels. He has to keep up or these three years will be wasted. Those extra late night practices aren't doing much good either since hes losing rest time and that's hurting his normal practices. Togashi can hopefully read Aoi the skill he needs.

tbf based from my experience on the player of my country (3rd world country), there's players like that who received huge praise in my country's league but when he moved to higher level league abroad he can't do anything because how bad his basic skill is, so he coudn't keep up with the players that has received good training from good and standard academy. i think the author just want to showcase the difference between player who received good basic standard training and player who is good at football just because his talent as mc development in the series.

And because I already read the manga, a little bit spoiler, the manga content is focused about how hard it is the competition for young player in youth league/academy to consistent achieving playing in the first team. Especially when Ao ashi motivation is to become pro player, you can imagine what struggle he will get in the future.

lmao stfu dude you know nothing, even Romelu Lukaku still struggle with receiving control.

Fyi, my 3rd world country is just so bad at football. There's a new foreigner coach for National team and you know what he done? Make the national players train how to pass and how to receive a ball for like almost a year now

It's hard to appreciate what the author trying to show if you're not familiar with football. It might look easy in your eyes, but the reality it's not. There is even a lot of pro player out there who still struggle with first touch and receiving the ball, but they compensate it with other skills, the famous one of course is Inzaghi if you know.
Aoi's unique skill has nothing to do with the basic of football. So it's understandable if he still struggles with the basics. Keep in mind that he is the only one who never have proper football education in this youth team.
If you wonder why he got signed. It's coach Fukuda. The other coaches never consider Aoi to pass the selection. But coach Fukuda see his potential. It's pretty rare to have a player who can see the whole pitch and remember his own teammates position. This is a skill that a player like Xavi, Iniesta, and Ozil have. But this is not the sole reason. Coach Fukuda went even further asking if Aoi was aware on what he's doing during the last minutes of the match against their senior. If Aoi didn't explain properly at that time I'm pretty sure he won't get signed.

Aoi comes to terms with reality. He's not some super special player. He still lacks basic skills.

So the sponsor's girl is a big fan of Fukuda.

Huh so Hana did have a crush on Fukuda when she was a kid lol

Man, Tachibana and Ohtomo are true homies. Togashi might be rough but he seems like a good guy deep down.

Great episode!

1. There 0 correlation between remembering player position to knowledge of football tactics. It's just showed he had a wide vision and memory. Do you think having those 2 is equal to understand football tactics? lmao football isn't that shallow. Maybe it's because in your mind he's a genius when he's not. Have they explained that he has a good skill? good shot? good speed? No. Fukuda also said in eps 1 that all he done is picking a lose ball. He's never a genius forward, it's just the highschool team was so bad compared to real pro team. But Fukuda saw something in Aoi, that was needed for his future team. Point 4 is continuation of this.

2. He played egoist last eps due to his new family and economic burden, he even admit it himself that it's bad. It's just part of his thought immaturity. But hey, y'see what he's done this eps? get better, skill wise, mindset wise, and attitude wise(kinda). And he'll be better and better after this, as an athlete and a human.

3. Ball control isn't as easy as you think my guy. Also it's not a simple receive. It's receiving a highspeed ball while in a movement and set the momentum to continue moving the ball. It's similar to control orientado he learnt from Fukuda in the 1st eps. My country national team just got a new foreigner coach and what he taught was passing and ball control for almost a year now. Even in EPL, there's a lot of bad receiving moments happened. So far Aoi only received a lose ball (ep 1), using control orientado, and normal receive basically. He doesn't need a perfect receive in his highschool football before enter this team, his normal receive is enough. And actually, 90% of low lvl football team still receive like him, the ball still bouncy here and there.

4. He entered the team only because of Fukuda. Now you see how the other coaches felt in ep 6. Nozomi been spitting facts in eps 6, but as you've heard from Nozomi, Fukuda never fails to raise new talent, and they had respect for him. Why Fukuda pick Aoi? that's a spoiler, will be explained later, and that's also a huge turning point of this manga basically, one of the best plot twist in all of Sports manga.

I really could do without some of the extreme edge drama they add either by making unlikeable characters including coaches and some of the reactions from Aoi himself. It just makes me cringe and brings me out of it. The unrealistic nonsense thrown in keeps this show from being one of the better sports shows I've seen.

That said the show does balance it out a little with some likeable characters and moments. I'm interested to see how Togashi helps Aoi next episode.

Aoi learned the hard way that he's not as good as he think he is and its having a negative effect on Aoi's psyche and confidence football/soccer player. Passing and ball control is one of the basic skill sets he needs to master if he wants to be considered for the A-Team like Yuma.

Those coaches work for a professional football club. It's not their job to hold Aoi's hand when Aoi himself doesn't have the basic fundamentals down. The rest of the youth players already have the basics covered already so there is no reason the coaching staff to give Aoi special treatment. That is something that Aoi has to figure out himself in the three years he's with Tokyo Esperion.

it is literally a coach's job to help a player grow and develop and improve.

Stone face doesn't even want to try to help him.
he gives up on Aoi as a lost cause immediately, then even after Aoi asks for help all he gets is one sentence of advice, there is no actual help, no examples, no plan, no development schedule, no analysis, nothing at all and if your paying 300000 yen a year for them to coach you then they should damn well do their job and coach you.

Hana has been a better coach in this series than any of the actual coaches, she came up with an entire meal and health benefit plan.

Agree that the coaches are coming across as incompetent. They knew exactly what Aoi's problem was but weren't going to tell him anything till he came in and begged? That only makes sense if they've decided he's worth zero resources, which would mean they've got no trust at all in the head coach's judgement. Not to mention all the bullying that apparently goes on in the team. The discipline here is all messed up.

really like that compared to hinata( who still is a good character btw) he as an mc has a very realistic reason for wanting to become a pro and it seems tha the mangaka actually gave thought to football as a sport and why is a sport that people in many poor countries choose to follow and most of the times succeed at the top level.

Even though I agree that the coaches are really harsh on Aoi, I somewhat understand where they are coming from. First, they are so hesitant of letting Aoi pass the tryout in the first place due to his performance. They can see it right away that he is playing soccer without knowing the basics and that's a big no for them. They have try outs to filter those players specifically. Second, Fukuda insisted to let Aoi pass because he see his unique potential (but it seems so unique that only Fukuda can see it), and because the other coaches trust Fukuda so much, they agreed with him. Despite all of that, you cant deny the fact that they are agaisnt the idea of letting someone who lack basic skills pass. Lastly, as everyone mentioned here, they are coaching future professionals here, not just soccer player wannabee. The point of the tryouts and selection is to literally skip wasting time on teaching their players the basics and now they have to do it with Aoi(which as I've mentioned, they can't even see why the fck Fukuda is so interested on him)? No wonder why they'll get pissed on Aoi.

so the coaches were literally just gonna ignore Aoi and then the big dude says no one's going to hold his hand and show him the way...........thats EXACTLY what a coach is supposed to do.

These coach's aren't very good at their job.

This isn't a school, it's a pro team. They're looking for a finished product, it's not really their obligation to teach him. They could've just fire him from the team and move on. So does his teammates, it's not a school club, they're on the team for themselves. Helping others just reduce your chance to be picked on team A or senior team, especially when you're on the same position.

Them coaches looking all surprised when he asked them to teach him/ tell him what he lacked.......like bruh isn't it their job to do that? He has to go to them himself before they realize what they should have done from the start instead of straight out giving up on him on his first day.. sigh... it was a nice episode tho

Thanks for your explanation,I kind of understand their point of view now :) but I still believe that their approach to his issue is wrong. They don't have to teach him, but atleast tell him what he lacks. The issue of whether they see his potential or not shouldn't matter in this aspect, because at the end of the day they gave in to Fukuda and he was selected..now he is one of the players they should coach.

Because Coach Fukuda gave him a pass in they tryouts because he sees raw potential despite the rest of the coaching staff not seeing it, but they trust his judgement to let it slide for now.

That Akutsu dude is such a clown. Such a shame they are in Japan because in places like Brazil or Argentina (places where football is almost a religion), he wouldn't be trash-talking about one's skills and parents just like that.

Anyways, I gotta say this episode was... "okay". For an establishment whose purpose is to raise and advise future stars, its coaches sure leave a lot to be desired and as for the discipline aspect, I don't know if they are all blind or just don't care about the fact of Akutsu going around intimidating younger players from the same institution. sigh* and here I was expecting for him to get at least a warning for almost breaking Ashito's ribs last time they played...

But well, leaving that aside, it was nice to see Ashito taking things more seriously and now I can't wait to see what he will learn from Togashi.

Kind of funny how people are complaining because it's not 'hype'. It's only 8 episodes in and this is a manga with over 250+ chapters that actually gives a shit about the development of the character's skills and attitude over the course of the story. If everything was as easy as Kuroko no Basket (it was fun to watch not realistic) almost everyone would be playing soccer or any sport for that matter at a high level with not much hard work. Also these are coaches working for a club. As someone who played for a club myself. Unless you're playing from a youth setup by that I mean like U-13 or even younger they're not gonna be holding your hand. You gotta work it out yourself and keep training. Aoi was essentially scouted for a certain skill, the only thing he was able to verbalize to Fukuda (which should be pretty obvious) and later on there is a major twist in the story for Aoi because of this skill.

It's a seinen show. Just wait it out and let the story develop. It'll be a good watch over the long run.

As for the episode itself. It was good, some interactions are a little over dramatic but it is a TV show after all but the pacing so far has been very good and is setting up nicely for major character and plot developments that is if they keep being as faithful to the manga.

It's like they're straight up harassing Aoi, clearly there's no need to go this extreme. Also it almost felt like an exaggeration when they were talking about Aoi's lack of skills, I mean he's got selected so atleast give him that much credit.

hes not bad at all, he may still be a good/instinctual player, hes just not good enough when hes here with all the others who have received such elite training....why would you just completely miss out the whole point of the story lol

i loved it when he realised he knows close to nothing, and went to so desperately ask for help/advice, that character development is so good, i didnt actually expect it from him actually

that guy who is trash talking him is in the wrong genre, he shld be in a BL or manhwa lol i think his aggressiveness would be better received there

taira♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ so cute and so kind♡√√ and yuuma too♡♡♡♡♡ i loved how they introduced more of yuuma's personality & skills

hana was such a cute kid, i love her personality♡ usually these female characters in sports anime often feel like token characters but she doesnt to me, i love how natural the story is just flowing & everyone, whether subtly or not are playing a part in it, looking forward to togashi's development too seeing how hes observing the rest

but i’ll probably remember over and over again
you were there and everyone else was there

There was something seriously wrong with the audio production this episode, voices were too quiet compared to the BGM, I even thought there was something wrong with my setup.

Anyways, the story of the episode itself was great.

Hey man, playing soccer ain't all about scoring goals...I mean it is but not always. What I mean is sometimes pulling a defender is the best you're gonna do all game. You're simply not going to be a rocks star every single time you step on the pitch and that's ok. It's a team sport and something our MC here simply cannot comprehend at this point. Hope he snaps out of it soon.

Kinda surprised he doesn't know how to trap. As a forward thats like 50% of your skill set especially given that this guys entire high school career centered around other people passing the ball to him. Seems a little contrived to me.

Anyway I know the short guy said not to trust the motorcycle dude but what other choice does our boy have? Interesting to see what sorts of training they go through in the next episode.

What the hell is wrong with you, dude? The senior dude needs to calm down. None of the coaches are aware of his awful behaviour?
It’s incredible that he doesn't even know the basics, there must be a reason for this. He must, however, refrain from yelling while practising in the middle of the night. I'm happy to see the trio helping one another, and Togashi appears to be the next to assist Aoi with his basics.
