I remember reading The Faraway Paladin manga, It was the first ever piece of fiction that made me cry alot and I was surprised to discover that there was an anime adaptation just a week ago. I also wonder why very few people were talking about it so I watched some reviews on YouTube and the feedback was good so I watched the anime. I WAS UTTERLY DISAPPOINTED.

Where do I even start? It skips many dialogues, scenes and world building yet it somehow felt more slower then the manga. The emotional, impactful scenes felt really weak. And the pacing doesn't feel natural at all. They literally crammed all the relevant lore and details into fast, breathless exposition like it's a goddamn visual novel. And coupled with the choppy, lazy animation, it also ruins the gritty atmosphere.

Will and Mary's voice also doesn't fit their character. Will sounds too cringe (no offensive to voice actor) that his breakdown on the chimera subjugation(I also cried reading this scene in the manga) felt like the most dumbest rage burst ever.

The Anime was so bad and boring that I decided to reread the manga to make sure I wasn't just blinded by nostalgia AND OH BOY the difference in quality was huge. I got nothing to praise this anime except for the music (which is good ngl).

"The world of otome games is tough for mob" that is airing this season also had a similar fate. But imo, even that one wasn't bad as this.

You should read the light novel, it's even better than the manga. and I definitely agree with you on the character designs.

I never read the LN. But I strongly agree cz i have watch soo many Isekai but it didn't give me the kick
It gave me the minimum fun but i am not satisfied.
The plot is great but the direction is soo poor that the story seems poor.

I enjoyed it while it aired. I've not touched the manga or LN; so I can't draw comparisons. Well, that being said, it's just a simple case of having expectations from adaptations; that's why you feel like this. Most manga/LN readers feel the same after they watch some anime adaptations. Just saw manga's character design now. It was butchered lol.

So my question to you is will you stick to the manga only, or hope to watch season 2?

Usually I'm not bothered with bad adaptations(even the seven deadly sins) I enjoyed it just as much as the source material. Your right. Why I felt so disappointed for this is because I had high expectations and it's my favorite fantasy manga.

I'll gladly join the "manga is better" ppl for this one lol.

And for your question, I'm planning to read the light novel.

A studio with sh*t track record, inexperienced staffs and a director that is infamous for his misses. Even JC staff would've adapted this a 100 times better.

Sometimes, it's just good to lower expectations, but at the same time, I'd be hyping it or having more expectations for the adaptation subconsciously lol. Currently feeling the same way with CSM, Hell's Paradise, and Blue Lock lol. Really enjoyed these three mangas.

Yeah Will's voice actor was a terrible choice.
You all need to watch Nami.
