I was searching what to watch based on score and popularity, and while I was searching Josei category from the top 5I noticed that I already 3 of those shows and loved them a lot. But this one I had never even heard of it.

So this week I've watched 3 episodes already. So far, it's good, but I hope it gets better.

Anyway, made this post only for other people, checking this anime out of curiosity, to know

I love Chihayafuru, and yes, it gets better.

Didn't care its rate, though.

The first 7ish episodes are fairly slow I almost dropped but DONT. It picks up from there and never looks back. This is one of the greatest anime series of all time, period.

For me, first 3 episodes are not that much of interesting. I was thinking, "why its rating is 8+ ??" and many other things. But after 3rd episodes my interest level started going up and up.

I would suggest you to read the subtitle carefully (if you watch sub), and try to understand Karuta.

It will not disappoint you.

Chihayafuru is one of those that you'll be rewarded for keeping an open mind and sticking with it :)

Not that the first season was bad, but it definitely gets better in the latter seasons, as the story develops and draws on/ builds on earlier events...

People here are commenting on how slow the beginning is, but why do they feel this way? In the first episode itself we're introduced to all 3 MCs, shown Chiha's backstory and how she got into Karuta. That's pretty good, right?

It's a true 8/10 show to me. Still, I really think it's more of a sports anime with a shoujo setup (the 2 boys in love + oblivious genkidere MC) without the "over the topness" than an actually "josei-ish" show.

It's definitely interesting and easy to catch, although the Karuta game itself really is an absurdly niche thing and it really is important in the story. Honestly, I was really surprised it kept my attention for so long, since it's a very simple and repetitive game, so it just tells how well written this show is.

Same here. I wasn't boring watching character introduction and their past.
For me, when I was watching the beginning part, I thought "wow this anime is so good". And then it's getting better and better, from very good to great!! The 3rd season is masterpiece for me.

Same here, somethings felt silly but I can't help but to feel drawn-in by it's intensity

After three seasons, I would confidently say Chihayafuru is the greatest piece of media ever created.

Dang, just reached ep22. I has been fun so far, but I feel I'm loosing the hook and even more if there is no actual conclusion later on.

Will the story get more varied in the second and third season? I'm starting to think I should just leave it after finishing season 1

I would definitely stick it out, and at least try watching the first couple episodes of season 2. It starts a new arc and adds another dimension to the story telling and character development. I enjoyed the later seasons more, fersher.

Cool, actually, after finishing season 1 I ended up looking forward to S2, but I'm taking a break by watching another anime in-between, still I can't help feeling an itch about not watching S2 instead
