I just finished One Punch Man Season 2, and its not an understatement to say that I think it is one of the best Anime shows I have ever watched, I really thought it would be bad after seeing its score and people's opinions about it, and especially how weak the first season was regarding its writing, but holy shit, this season caught me off guard, character development, weight of consequences, plot, villains, fights, its all there, and HEAVY. Did OPM fans really grow to be stupid enough to the point of disliking the show because there's less 1 hit kill fights and more actual Story and stuff that makes an Anime good?

I liked it a lot, but I think the big controversies behind it are Saitama getting sidelined as the mc often and animation complaints.

Massive let down compared to season 1 and it felt like an incomplete arc which it essentially is. Additionally the animation quality went down significantly

It's uncomparable to season 1. Season 1 was so good that this seemed bad. If you watch season 2 without seeing season 1 it's actually not bad but season 1 is just too good

Bad animation compared to S1 + Less saitama protagonism + Feels incomplete + Manga is better + Less comedy

Yes season 2 is better than season 1 in my opinion. For me saitama is a bland character so seeing other characters having the spotlight was a good change. And animation was still very good.

Quite many people watch OPM for godly action & great comedy, not this "character development, weight of consequences, plot, villains, fights, its all there, and HEAVY".
The comedy is getting old & the animation can't compare to the 1st season.

Honestlly I also prefer S2 because story was better and there were more intresting characters and the best so far character for me Garou. I really like that Saitama had less screen time so story could focus on the others.
Tbh I didn't care about animation, for me was still really good.

It’s just the animation, the story is really great because it’s adapting the manga but the animation doesn’t do justice too the insane art in the manga like Season 1 did

I respectfully disagree about weak writing. Story has always been good from beginning, world building and characters as well. It's seinen aimed parody of superheroes and about a overpowered dude's life struggles. Like bro, he's the MC so ofc first arcs will be all about him, afterwards only then can one fully enjoy rest of story and world of OPM.
But biggest difference for me was animation, I was heavily spoiled of first season's quality because how Madhouse succeeded at animation department, it's almost like Murata's art came to life straight from manga. First season gave me an unforgettable experience and that's why I strongly belive that J.C. staff will never do OPM justice as Madhouse did. Why? Because Madhouse along with ONE and Murata, are the reasons why One Punch Man is big as it is today and I wish with all my heart they come back, and give this awesome manga the proper adaption it fully deserves.

I think it's good but I consider it doesn't do justice to Murata's art (which would be very difficult to do), preferring the manga version as it feels more impressive. Regarding story, I am one of those who prefer secondary characters over the protagonists so I like the plot of Garou and the Monster Association more than the introduction focused on Saitama.

Well I liked the arc but animation was the biggest let down. For example, wtf is wrong with Saitama's face why is it not normal and why are there so many motion blurs in every single fight of season 2. Like man I want to enjoy the fight could you please let me see it? And why are the characters looks so plain. But i did like it story wise like new characters were introduced King, Blizzard and Best of all Garou. Garou is the one who saved this season.

I think it's because the first season was just to amazing. People had insanely high hopes for season 2 because of how good season 1 was.
So when season 2 came out and it was maybe not as good as some people were expecting it got hated on.

its not like people hated the season 2 due to story. they hated it because the show ended incomplete and our MC didnt get enough screentime that he's deserved to get. Even genos got more screentime but not saitama. I bet if they had kept a longer season, the next few manga chapters would have given him more screentime.
Anyways, coming to the animation part, no matter what you say, its hard for any other studio (except few) to give us top quality animation like MADHOUSE. its not that animation was bad. its just, after getting an awesome season 1, we got a mediocre season 2. Which was very upsetting.
But it can't be helped. You might have liked the season 2,but not everyone are like you.

Don't know. OPM fans noticed downhill in animation and instantly started hating it.
Saitama being a sideline isn't even studio's fault.
Its the same in manga too (except last few chapters)
Other than that, people disliked the pacing too.

The writing and character development in season 2 was great as well as introducing more characters but you’re nuts if you think the animation is anything more than basic. It’s so uninspired. Season 1 is one of the best animated seasons of all time, season 2 was a nothing burger animation wise.

Well, I’m not a huge opm fan to begin with. With that being said I don’t think the second season is much worse than the first, the animation is a downgrade and saitama isn’t in it as much so i think those are factors why fans dislike it but i think outside of that it’s just as good as season 1. people just like to hate for no reason when a show changes studios

S2 I do like for the story but I do wish there was more screen time for saitama, the whole thing i kept completing watching this show because of no saitama when i came for mostly seeing him, I also liked the more slice of life theme for S1 but S2 was still pretty good, that's if there was no protagonist, Genos was more of a protagonist in this one.

Season 2 was kind of shitty to be honest. The plot sucked for some episodes. Season 1 was amazing because of the storyline. Season 2 villain was a fucking retard to be honest.

Season one to me had such a high level of animation quality, and fantastic humour. While I enjoyed season 2, the animation issues really dropped it a lot for me. I was watching it as it was released subbed, and I noticed that a lot of the hit sound effects sounded clipped and overly bassy. The animation also felt like it took a lot of short cuts, almost never showing a hit connecting in earlier episodes; the most egregious example being episode 4, where I don't believe you see a single punch connect. I do like the character bits when they were there, but the season felt disjointed, not helped by the fact that it felt incomplete as some others have said. I should give it a watch dubbed though, I tend to absorb anime better in English.

idk man the biggest problem with this season was that it was a big downgrade animaton wise from season 1. people had way too big expectations coming in to this after the excellent first season and after getting this kind of season most people were disappointed and hated it on it and said "just read the manga".

It was alright. First, the animation wasn't as good. Second, they didn't even finish the arc so it was just incomplete, especially to anime only's. Third, you were saying the story/character development was alot better. While i agree with you, i don't think thats a good reason for being one of the greatest anime of all time. Like mob psycho 100 has well better story (it's made by the same studio) and so many other shows. Other than the story being alright, i can't find anything else good about this show.

It just wasn't great at all.

For me S1 is miles ahead of S2. Comedy, Action, Saithama and Animation of S1 is just Unparalleled. Only thing S2 Has going for it is the villain. He may not be strong like Boros but he has enough emotional weight and depth and is better than S1 villains

Boring characters with no depth or personality taking over 60% of screentime, poop animation, abhorrent pacing, not enough content to make a whole season of off.

Are opm fans so stupid that guy admitting he's weak is "great character development"? Or mc joining a tournament and then owning someone who makes fun of heros considered "good plot" like bruh

Because modern anime fans don't care about story, they only like animation which is why anime like demon slayer and jujutsu kaisen are rated so high.

Ye I agree, I prefer season 2 by quite a bit because season 1 didn't really have much storyline and was very slow at times. Sure the animation isn't as good, but just like AOT, even though the animation may be worse it's still better due to the storyline.

Most of the complaints come from the animation department which was a real big downgrade , i won't deny that (plus the sound design which was terrible imo , excluding the music which was fantastic). I will agree that the writing was awesome in every way and characters were fleshed out really well . However it is a way more different experience bingewatching it and waiting for each episode weekly . The Tournament arc was such a drag when it was coming out , however upon rewatching it , it actually flows pretty well .

Well, from a technical standpoint it is worse than S1 in every department:

inconsistent art/animation (some fight scenes were ruined or even skipped), subpar directing that ruins some moments and the jokes, messy/rushed pacing (a lot of times it looked like i was watching on fast forward) and the sound design was not good.

Shingo Natsume, the director of S1 was very disappointed and for good reasons.

I gave s1 a 9/10 and s2 a 6/10 so no i don't think it's bad. It's just a MASSIVE downgrade:
- horrendous pacing particularly the 2nd 3rd
- animation
- sound effects especially the loud bass-explosion sounds in JoJo they used that for almost every heavy blow the characters do

I get that they changed studios which was understandably difficult to live up to s1 (even prime MAPPA couldn't do it with AoT) but that's just overdoing it.

Also no, i don't think s1's writing was bad. They're both just as good.

personally they could have just release a full color version of the manga instead and that will be cheaper for them to do so too and i bet the full color version manga will have good sales too

check out the manga version of this season 2 to find out why its a downgrade

Maybe because people had too much expectations for this one, Madhouse did raise the bars a lot when OPM s1 was still on production. That's always the first reason that comes in my mind.

yes the opm fans simply wanted it to have the same production of S1 which didn't happen for many reasons and which made them put some shallow and hasty takes and don't even give it a chance and just acted like ignorant cocky and elite people which is funny since the staff weren't really slacking and had to face the deadlines ahead them and just comparing the manga's art with it because of the obvious downgrade between the two seasons which i find it disrespectful especially with murata having double the time unlike the staff had which isn't fair and despite S2 having its limitations compared to S1 but even S1 had it's limitations too which wasn't obvious since S1 had many known freelancers that made it look like it doesn't have any limitations to the naked eye while natsume the director of S1 knew how to make it not stand out too and a with a decent schedule.

S2 wasn't a bad anime but just had a hellish schedule with a director that needed a better schedule to make his first debut for an action better but bandai and tv tokyo had other words and just wanted to sell the merch also even if natsume directed the second season but anyways he wouldn't be able to do anything like sakurai if the schedule was tight since natsume struggled with boogiepop (because of kadokawa's meddlings) and had his own friend work on most episodes while he worked on only the first episode from 18 episodes.

anyways S2's plot is better than S1 easily but the fact it ended in the middle of an arc did made some angry over it with the other issues everyone complained about but it did a fine job and better than some anime productions that had more worse circumstances and
the staff wasn't slacking off not either j.c staff which had the same budget as madhouse and used that with outsourcing the cg to chinese studio and also had studio LAN helping them for the first half of episode 8 , and portions of the last 3 episodes and they did big fixes for the BDs given that bandai gave them 4 months to correct what they can and produce the OVAs.

what didn't help too that tv tokyo's blurring and ghosting in the tv version made the action scenes look bland or doesn't make sense while its actually does in the BDs version which what made the fans more burned because they thought the anime studio's fault while it's the tv channel's restrictions in the first place.
