RIP Duke of York.

Gotta say though, Edward is taking up quite the responsibility in his role as the new duke. Is he even ready for marriage? Either way, even with House of York as the victor, I have a feeling the war drama will reemerge again. Edward got my respect for having the guts to step up to the plate for her role though.

Man, Henry REALLY is ham-fisting on the youngest son Richard's persistence because he knew that the two of them would clash sooner or later as future kings, whether they like their situation or not.

But for now, leave the requiem jobs to those being able to lead both Lancastrians and Yorkists, mainly the oldest son Prince Edward and Margaret, while Richard's side-lining because of his past. And since the Yorkists won, Edward becomes king and the Earl of Warwick as his right-hand man becomes more prominent.

The side of courting ladies was one of intrigue as the daighters of Warwick's Isabelle and Anne Neville each took the brother's hands. And then comes Elizabeth Woodville with the proposition to Edward to return the lands of her late father, being Lancastrian. There is uncertainty when it counts, and is just unavoidable.

The woman that Edward longs for (Elizabath), is also one that despises him due to his actions, and that might be the very first instance of his narcissism and devoted love to Elizabeth after defiling her. Not knowing that making her Queen will upset the balance in the Yorkist Family, this turn is going for the worse.

The darkness consumes the light, and I get that tinge of sombreness.

I think pacing was much more better in this ep. And the first part where they depicted the feelings of Richard was pretty cool.

I'm a little surprised at how low the score is - it's definitely far too fast-paced, sure, but I've seen much worse anime with much higher scores. I will probably start reading the manga after this, though, seeing how I've heard it's paced much better.

From a historical perspective, they made some interesting choices this episode. The battle depicted seems to have been the Battle of Mortimer's Cross, as evidenced by the presence of the parhelion - a genuine meteorological phenomenon that really did happen in said battle. However, I'm fairly sure that Owen Tudor (grandfather of the future Henry VII) was the primary Lancastrian commander instead of Margaret of Anjou. Furthermore, it was a little disappointing that the Battle of Towton (said to be the bloodiest battle ever fought on English soil) was skipped, especially due to how significant the actual events of the battle were.

The portrayal of Elizabeth Woodville was also rather interesting here - as far as I'm aware, there's not too much evidence that she sought revenge on Edward IV for the late John Grey's death, but it's a pretty interesting twist so I'm very much alright with it. The later troubles her marriage to Edward would cause were also foreshadowed rather well. All in all, I'm interested to see where this goes.

So I am not familiar with the manga OR the historical depiction of the war of roses.. BUT I am in art college and let me tell you, some of the scenes depicted in this episode (and previously) remind me of a very artsy interpretation of something. Now this is cool to look at visually but not very very good to use if your trying to tell a story. It sorta leaves things up to you to interpret... which I guess is fine I don't really know. Maybe I should just read the manga to get more specific details... but like if some other big anime adaptation took killing scenes and made them blotchy paint drips and roses twirling to deliver only the "mood" I'm sure let's say to AOT fans or something, there would surely be outrage... but what do I know maybe that's how the manga did it too?

Great episode! The Duke Of York, who was an amazing person is now dead and Richard is still facing troubles due to his body. He has seemed to try make himself more manly now that his father is dead and accepted his brother's request to talk to a woman. Edward has got himself in a bad situation, trusting that woman...

Looking forward to the next episode!

This episode was better than the last. I could follow what was going on. lol

I wish they improved their pacing a little more. The art and music are beautiful. It would be nice if the story and directing were equally good.

I can't believe I just noticed the wreath of red and white thorns on the heads of the characters' silhouettes, in the OP, separating them into Yorks and Lancasters!

I haven't read the manga, but by reading others' comments, I am getting the feeling that this anime is doing something like Tokyo Ghoul by simply adapting the plot points, and excluding scenes that give characters extra depth and nuance.

With the Yorkists taking control over England, its only short lived that peace will remain with King Edward has fallen into the hands of a woman who only wants vengeance

The pacing has improved a little, hopefully it doesn't get any worse

This is so interesting and its such a shame they had to rush it and give it such a cheap animation. I'll definitely read the manga

gotta be honest. I have zero motivation to keep watching this anime, have read a little of the manga, which is miles better....

but I think it's best to just drop it now instead of trying to suffer through this dumpster fire of an adaptation. It's a shame, because the manga deserved so much better. But I went into this with pretty low expectations anyways. I guess the only positive is that it might get some folks to read the manga.

This episode turned out to be quite decent actually. Not as good as I'd want it to be, but still not as bad. Still a shame that it has such a cheap animation, but I do enjoy the music and some visual solutions, such as the change of colour scheme when Joanne D'Arc appears and some artistic, symbolic imagery here and there.

I agree that this episode has better pacing than the previous two.

I look forward to developments between Richard and Anne. I know he said he doesn't want to love anyone, but that's not a great life to live tbh!!

King Edward is a dummy. I can't comprehend why he's interested in Elizabeth (except for sexual reasons, but even then there are other women out there...) I'm not surprised that she has ulterior motives and I don't blame her for wanting to avenge her deceased husband.

He's into Elizabeth because she's quite unique compared to the usual dames that flock around him.
Looks aside, her personal situation (or what she lets transpire at least) and the vagueness that surrounds her must highly appeal to an experienced womanizer like Edward.

Episode 1 made me want to pick up the manga, and after nearly catching up with it (in just a few short days) I have to say: I'm really enjoying the anime, I think it is good. I am enjoying both adaptions.

And Elizabeth's wreath is blue, representing her husband's coat of arms, which is a nice touch - and setting up at the end of the episode that her loyalty is neither to York, nor Lancaster, but to avenging her husband's death.

I like how Richard went from fighting for his father to supporting the kingdom through the shadows (even though it doesn't really show him doing anything). Sucks how his brother speaks about the three of them being in charge of the country and then changes his tune when Richard catches him fucking that one female. She seems like a bitch but its a good vengeance story.

Richard watching live porn... I knew that woman is plotting something... The new King is so dumb... Warwick must been chose a good woman for a Queen but the new king just choose someone he just knew for a short time....
That Henry scene... Henry is so gay for some random dude he met before...

I kinda liked the episode. If there is any manga reader out there, Is the manga pacing better? Because I really like the plot but I feel the anime is kinda speedrunning it.

The pacing of this episode is definitely better than the first two but I think they missed a beat with how Richard reacted when Anne said she wanted to be his friend. In the manga Richard does react which adds to his characterisation. As I'm somewhat familiar with the historical events I'm interested to see how they are going to tackle upcoming historical moments. It's interesting to see Elizabeth Woodville in the role of the vengeful woman. I will definitely be picking up more of the manga because, for me at least, it is the better adaption.

The story of a certain winter. The story of a certain night.
