Kurenai got her karma. Well deserved too. This is one of the moment where i agree, don't kill her off so easily. Let her suffer like how she make others suffer.

And they nailed the Witch/Sister scene perfectly.

Homura was cold. Gave it to her mother straight.

Kurenai's fate was bloody hilarious, especially knowing it's Mashima writing this. I wouldn't have seen that in FT lol. No bs, just pure karma ready and waiting for the wicked. That baseball swing playing from 3 different angles kills me everytime lmao

Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the adaptation. Elevated the experience in the ways I thought it really needed to, and I'm mainly talking about the voice acting. Glad that was done justice. Really made the experience. Mikakoshi as Rebecca and Fujii as Sister already makes it close enough to a dream team lol

I LOVED THIS SEASON.
This is the first time I get to watch an anime adaptation of a work from Hiro Mashima. I loved it. Even though there's a problem with the (sometimes) exhausting fanservice, it is known that multiple works from him suffer the same problem, so we can make that aside. The season was amazing, I got to read the manga before the anime but the anime covered more story than the point where I left the manga (because I started to watch the anime).

Great season, amazing fights, fantastic and creative universe, lovely cahracters and a reeeeeaaally good protagonist, wish Shiki had more menacing and fearful moments.
I'm expecting an amazing second season and I'm up to continue the manga where the anime left it. 8/10

I've never understood why authors will make fanfiction of their own series and then pretend it's something totally new. If you want to use your existing characters in different situations go right ahead, but don't try to pass it off as a new work.

Anyway I'm not sure if it would be better or worse to have have seen Fairy Tail before watching this. Taken on its own merits there's a lot to criticize, while viewing it as Fairy Tail: IN SPACE is also less than ideal (why are there two Wendys?).

Well whatever, I found it watchable enough in the end so I guess I'll have to go with "if you liked the author's previous Anime adaptations you'll probably also like this".

As dark as that scene was with the thugs, Kurenai certainly got what she deserves.

Enjoyable season, even though it shares similiarities to Fairy tail and Rave master (even some blatant cameos), I like how it stands out with the space theme and even some dark moments.

At first I was rather skeptical about the characters and setting with the practical copy paste of characters not only by look, name, but also how they react and progress the story.

Though in the end this space opera version of what you could practically call a fairy tale alternative setting/universe was better than I first expected.

Sure this could be because I highly prefer the space opera/sci-fi setting a lot more than the fantasy setting, but still the flow and pacing was quite lovely and for this first season with a direct announcement for a second I actually am looking forwards to see where this story will go!

So all in all I quite enjoyed watching it.

It's been a while since I reviewed on an anime but since I'm hype for that preview, Imma do it xD

I must say, J.C. Staff really did great on this one. The animations are really good with good OSTS and decent fight scenes, and even step up even more on the latter part of the series. As for the story or plot, It started really slow (just like on some shounen animes) and it uninterested me but I'm glad I stick with it. The too much use of "power of friendship" compared to fairy tail is a turn off to me too (if I remembered correctly, the only time FT used it too much was in the end of the anime) but thankfully, the animation and some little fanservices paid off on it.

Overall, it's a fun ride and I enjoyed it a bit. 7/10 for this. It hasn't been a while since the anime ended and with that hyped Season 2 preview at the end of the episode, I'm really hoping for an another series.

Also RIP for the one of director of Edens Zero. He died before releasing the last ep and still they did the next season preview so I think there's still hope.

Was hoping Homura wouldn't just let her go but she even did one of those kowtow bows to her, that was truly disappointing and painful to watch. When I heard that EZ was darker I wasn't expecting them to just let the villains go like that. Well at least they now have all four shining stars and can head for the grand line..

Overall, I liked the overarching goal to find Mother and the role of androids. The space travel and visiting different planets has a lot of potential for different stories. Also really liked how the strength isn't so much about friendship power and how Rebecca shown some potential of not being completely useless in fights.

That said, the series fell short in most other aspect. I went into this series trying to see it as its own thing without comparing it to FT, but it leaned too heavily on FT success which made it near impossible to not make that comparison. No matter how you look at it Shiki-Rebecca-Happy are just revamp of Natsu-Lucy-Happy. When you introduce such similarity then you can't blame people for comparing the two, and when comparing the two, EZ doesn't fare so well against FT. The characters, music, depth in its arcs, world with guilds and governments. Granted EZ only had 25 eps so far but we boarded the comparison train already.

Eden Zero definitely had its up and down during this season but I enjoyed it overall. The last arc was definitely the best when I came to action and character development. I’ll definitely read the manga as I feel like the series will finally take off since we are out of the prologue phase of the story

Do so. Because season 1 was just a set-up. Everything after it is just absolutely amazing. Night and day difference between what Edens Zero was in the first few arcs till Sun Jewel and what is to come after it.

She doesn’t have a look a like in Fairy Tail. She’s her own original character.

Shiki used Kurenai's own missiles to strengthen his own attack.

Karmic retribution came for Kurenai after meeting Homura.

I almost forgot the Edens One captain was still with them lol

So they don't actually need all four of the original shining stars to accomplish their goal, a position can be inherited/replaced since they came out of their own will. Thus, Homura becomes the new fourth member (maybe next time, Mosco!)

Novels I have read/am reading pending approval: since November 10 2022

As such, she does not exist in FT, but has a similarity to Kagura.

Overall this series had a mixture of action, emotion, comedy, fan service, etc.

I'm looking forward to the next season of the series and what transpires when Shiki's group are forced to fight against the Oracion Seis Galactica.

One thing I love about the series is it's uniquely quick pace. When Shiki's group go to a planet, they're usually not present for more than 3 episodes (with exception to Sun Jewel, which ended off the series). It had that Fairy Tail vibe of believing in the bonds of friendship and never giving up, and it also had Fairy Tail characters appear in the show. Examples include Natsu, Lucy, Levy, Jet, Droy, and some of the Edens Zero characters look like Fairy Tail characters. Dragon Joe has a similar hairstyle to Eric, AKA Cobra; Angelic Angela looks just like Sorano Aguria, AKA Angel; Professor Wise Steiner (the old version) looks similar to what I think Gildarts Clive would look like when he gets older; Elsie Crimson looks like and shares the same voice as Erza Scarlet/Erza Nightwalker.

I really enjoyed watching this series and I might honestly rewatch it.

While this was a better episode, I fear the "decent" moments are too few and far between for me to call this series good. I really have very little interest in continuing into the next season. I'm honestly not sure if I could fathom what could happen that would rekindle my interest. At best I might skim through synopses of all the arcs covered in the manga to date and see if there is anything that stands out.

I went into this with an open heart and mind, and by the end I'm mostly just glad it's finally over. I'd say the one good thing about this is that it made me pull the trigger on finally starting 100 Year Quest. Now, I need to find something to cleanse my palate.

Solid finale to what has been a fairly enjoyable show thus far!

Homura certainly didn't hold back at all with that cold speech, it's almost bewildering how Kurenai didn't feel anything afterwards. Rather thankfully though, she didn't go unpunished. I don't think the rebels are up to any good honestly but it is what she started after all. Rest in peace Valkyrie, Homura's master, friend and mother. And congratulations to the birth of the new fourth Shining Star!

Witch and Sister changing locations to finally let loose of their emotions was touching to see, machines with hearts for sure. I'm kind of hoping that Mashima Hiro-sensei doesn't bring Valkyrie back for all the reasons that Shiki went on to mention later on seeing how this troupe was abundant in the Fairy Tail franchise.

All in all, this was an interesting arc that definitely raised the stakes and provided us with a taste of the dark turn that this series can (and may, for all I know) take. I've been hearing really good things about the arcs to follow, so I'm looking forward to what's next!

On the downside, I can't quite say that the whole set of characters got enough screentime or attention to stand out by themselves. A strong point of the early Fairy Tail arcs was the cast and I feel that this series missed that. Rebecca received a fair bit of attention throughout but the whole B-tuber thing coupled with all the typical fan-service didn't really leave much of a good impression, lol.

However, that's not to say, that it didn't other aspects to make up for it. World-building, the Ether power logic and the space setting all seem interesting and I'm curious to see where these will go.

Strong 6/10 from my side.

Oh, and rest in peace to the director too. Thank you for bringing the world of Edens Zero to life.

@daft_mariner Cool, thanks for sharing your insights! I never really compared Edens Zero and Fairy Tail that accurately so I was kind of loosely referencing the two. Makarov v Jose was definitely more engaging because of the Shounen trope of an Op character finally showing his true powers and whatnot, lol.

If what you say is true regarding the buildup, I'm looking forward to what's coming next!

There've only been 25 episodes of Edens Zero so far (68 chapters). That's equal to Fairy Tail up to Phantom Lord minus the few filler episodes. The only other substantial arc before that was Galuna island. At least the first season of Edens Zero isn't much different in quality when you compare content-to-content. I'd argue more that the finale didn't match the hype of Makarov vs. Jose, but it was better story-wise.

The structures are very different as well; Fairy Tail is an anthology of arcs while Edens Zero is one narrative. In that perspective, it's like a long-running show with a slow build-up took a break 25 episodes in, because all of the hype comes right after this.

Overall, not too bad, Mashima knows how to write impactful and emotional stories without seeming overbearing or forced to me, I'll give him that. That final crying scene was great. And the sense of adventure and discovery is a big plus, just like it was in Fairy Tail. 6/10.

Too bad the author can't be arsed to get creative in other aspects of his work, the re-usage of skins, the same names, even similar themes and relationships (Deadbeat Mother who doesn't care for her daughter, where have I seen that?), there's too many to list. He really does come off as a one trick hack writer. But what sells, sells I guess. Anyone who says Fairy Tail and Edens Zero aren't similar are delusional or lying through their teeth. Reminds me of Shinkai and his same old story he spews out every now and then.

I think I couldn't bare to watch Rave Master at this point as well lol...
