Sorry if I offend you if you like this show but it's honestly really generic and rubs me the wrong way.
I may be overreacting but I just don't like this show. I'm only watching it Cuz Rie Takahashi is voicing the girl.

non taken, but the anime just started and I think it's unfair to judge an Anime from its first episode... Though I'll be honest the first episode didn't live up to the hype but it was actually enjoyable

Well it looked like the sky opened all portal-like and they came out of it, so probably some parallel world shenanigans or aliens, as someone else said. Maybe the show is just trying to throw us off with that depiction, but for now it seems so bland and straightforward, I refuse to assume it could be actively scheming to subvert expectations.

Either God descended on earth and decided to test humanity or so alien humanoid entity found itself a home. Personally I'm leaning more towards the God theory.
