Aight, the Netflix release is finally out. But does Netflix's official sub hold up for the 2 week delay?

So Netflix did not translate the texts on the screen. They did translate the writing part tho. Even tho the translation is better, I will have to go with the fan subs because if they keep this, people won’t understand anything. But I’ll still rewatch the episodes on Netflix so I can compare the subs and also support the studio.

Even if you choose fansub, which fansub? Because, there is 2 fansubs that exists. The first one is not a bad one. The later one is "better" from my pov. But, Idk. Just my opinion.

The Novaworks fansub for episode 1 was incredible, I hope they keep doing the series cause every other version (official and other fansubs) are very inferior. They translate all the text and integrate it so well, it’s incredible how dedicated they were to making it as great as possible. Honestly, I don’t think I wouldve enjoyed episode 1 as much as i did if it wasn’t for their subs being so damn good.

Take the advice and NEVER go for Netflix subs, they didn't even try at all.

Fansubs is the way to go, and I pity those who just learnt that you have to watch shows like this and Blue Period the old style of sailing the high seas. Ah the good ol' days of fansub groups before the Gen Z-ers came along and only know how to watch shows via Crunchyroll and Funimation.

I never watch anything with fan subs lol. It it’s not available legally on Crunchyroll, Netflix, Funimation or Amazon Prime then I might watch with fan subs.

I don't feel like I missed out too much not being able to understand everything on the board, because the feeling of the scene was more important. also makes me want to try to learn written Japanese some day.

Thank you I'm glad somebody said it netflix translated everything needed to understand the context of the scene. Pausing to read literally everything they said is awkward in anime format and is unnecessary for the point of the scene

Netflix didn’t bother to translate the on-screen text, which is EXTREMELY important for this series, arguably more so than any other show. The only way Komi communicates for a vast majority of the series is through writing and inner monologues. If that first episode from Netflix is anything to go off of, they don’t plan on translating ANY of that.

Netflix doesn't even bother to sub the writings..but fansubs cover everything. If you want the best fansub it would be novaworks. They do a better job than Netflix

Well I just checked the netflix sub and they did an abysmal job so looks like it's fansubs for this.

Clicked the wrong option in the poll, but I personally find the fansubs to be better.

I tried to watch this from Netflix but I can't believe those subs. They were so bad! Here is small example for comparison.

Top is from Netflix and bottom is from NovaWorks.

I'm starting to get tired of this how these "professionals" do their jobs. Why I'm even bothering to pay them when fans do much better work for free??? I have to say there is something really wrong with our world.

Rev even did make video from this:

Komi-san can't communicate because our translators couldn't bother to do their jobs

You can't believe how poor those translations were in Finnish. Netflix does their sub from Japanese -> English -> Finnish. Finnish subs are so stupid that it hurts my brain. But this is not just problem with anime in Netflix. Every show have really poor subtitles in Finnish even if show's original language is in English. I just can't imagine how poor those subs are in other languages too.

I just wish so that I could understand Japanese so I could just skip the subtitles altogether. Shame that it is so darn hard language to learn.

I feel like in a show where the main character has to communicate in non-verbal means like writing, you should be translating the text considering that is the majority of Komi’s dialogue

Golden shoveling but this comment is very underrated
