So is nobody going to talk about how Rock Lock has the ghetto stereotypical black voice-
When I first saw him on screen I felt represented as a POC they even got the hair texture right and didn't overexaggerate facial features but then he started talking and- ooooof

True, but then when Mirko was introduced in the dub some people complained that she didn’t sound black enough. There’s no winning.

Idk, I didn't think he sounded "ghetto" at all. Was he saying some crazy slang? I don't remember that. The voice actor is a black dude from Texas.

I'm just glad they didn't get a white person to voice him
I'm pretty sure they wouldn't do that now, but they have in the past-

Speaking as someone who is not a POC, I do think it’s goofy af when even the dub actors are directed to speak in exaggerated ways especially for characters who are POC. It’s like they have to speak a certain way just to get across the point the character is brown or black. I’ve always heard Picolo and Jet Black were better reps for POC in anime. Interesting that we still see this issue still happening today in popular shows like MHA.

To be fair Japan's non-Asian population is less then ~0.6% they don't really have POC in their eyes makes it a lot harder then in America they also defer to like 50 well known VA's

The dub VA speaks like that naturally? Same goes for when he voices in other works like Kay/O in Valorant. Is it bad to have representation with appropriate VAs?
