Where do i start with this series?
And do the series and movies follow the same story?

First watch the original movie, then Innocence (aka Ghost in the Shell 2), then go to Stand Alone Complex series. After you've seen those, you can basically watch whatever you want from the franchise.

Watch the first movie cause it's a classic. The watch Stand Alone Complex, Then SAC Second Gig, and last SAC Solid State Society.The SAC stuff is all intertwined but the OG movie and it's sequel are a different take on the same source material

I would start with the Original 1995 movie, and then innocence. After that it's up to you what order you want to watch them in, but I would recommend the ARISE OVAs before watching Standalone Complex.
