Why did they undermine all the development of Rikka overcoming chunibyo?

I understand that money is a big thing but why would they make a season 2? It took away the whole point of season 1 and Rikka somehow regressed even more.

Yeah it was really good how they explained why she relies on her chunibyo, and it was good when she overcame it. This was all undermined when she went back to chunibyo; I still liked the show overall though.

Even in the movie I had hoped there would a path toward reconciliation. Regardless, I liked it anyway. I don't care about the messages being sent through a show but I do agree that alleviating the chuunibyou would have been a better message together with acceptance of it.

Oh my god this exactly what I thought that's why I gave the 1st season a nice 7 and the 2nd a 4 basically it was all the same and it wasn't fun anymore

I forgot about this! I remember first watching season 1 and living it and then once I finally went to season 2 everything felt so different and like events that happened in season 1 didn’t exist. I have not consumed anything more, outside the anime, so not sure if season 2 is canon or whatever. Glad to see people share this same sentiment and I’m curious if anyone has any kind of explanation to all this.

Yeah, that's what I thought too, I was really mad when I finished the movie and I realised they weren't gonna fix it because they probably didn't really care.

I liked it, I definitely see why it was a bad thing but it allowed the show to continue as it had for the first season, which i loved, and it was nice to have more of the show to watch, less focusing on the plot more on just enjoying watching it.

it's an unnecessary cash-grab sequel, that's why. Or if you want to look at it charitably, it's fanservice (not the ecchi kind) meant to rehash everything people loved about the original.

It's not a bad show but it could have been so much better.

Tye anime was successful because of Rikka being chuunibyo and the funny scenes about it, since the anime did well, they wanted to male season 2, but tha anime without chuunibyo rikka wouldn't be as good so they just made her chuuni again without explanation.
