Well personally the anime is good if you are interested in slow developing romance. It is cute and funny. I don't like the bullying part but use 3 EP rule if u like.

So, I've only watched the first episode and it seemed extremely generic to me. And Sawako's personality kind of annoyed me a little. Is Kimi ni Todoke a good romance anime? Or just another generic and mediocre show filled with overused anime and character tropes?
i would say that it is a pretty basic high school plot. season two made me a lil frustrated ngl n some of it was predictable but all n all, i do think it is worth watching. it is a wholesome story. they only animated 47/123 chapters so there is sm more to it. i even read the manga n they should have kept going but they didnt. anyways, it is all on you tho, watch some more eps n if you dont vibe with it, drop it(;

Yes, while I’m only on ep:11, it’s very good, it’s got a very high average rating for a reason.

Short Answer: YES.
Long Answer: YES.
Kimi ni Todoke is among the best romance series ever created.
Oregairu is the King of Romance in LN, but in manga is more like a Round Table since there’s like 10 series that are above everything else in this genre.
Kimi ni Todoke belongs in that tier.
But is it a good Romance?
It depends on what you consider “Good” since that is subjective.
Let’s put a comparison so we can get a better idea:
The ones similar in being captivating and overall good but in a tier below that are contemporary today now would be Tonikaku Kawaii, Komi-San maybe.
Imagine the same popularity that Kanojo Okarishimasu has today, while you know, being actually great and 10 times better.
That’s how massive the difference in quality and storytelling is the old series compare to the mainstream.
Kimi ni Todoke, Fruits Basket, Kaichou wa Maid-Sama, Horimiya are among those series that nobody considers bad.
“But what about the tropes. That’s so generic”.
It’s not fair to call them generic without the correct analysis.
They were not released today but a long time ago.
What you call tropes, generic and overused you have to put into context.
It’s cliche and repetitive today, this manga is over 20 years old so is more like they were the ones in charge with creating said tropes so way back when it was considered new.
Nowadays everyone repeats what they created before that’s why they’re cliches.
They are the originals.
Is the Anime good adaptation?
The anime covers up to Chapter 45, including both seasons.
The manga is 130 Chapters long, so 1/3 of the whole story is still missing.
Regarding if it’s a faithful adaptation it follows the manga picture by picture.
So you will be able to capture the essence of the show through the Anime as the author intended.
Is it a good romance? NO.
It’s a great romance series. Worth watching but even more worth reading.

I don't mind slow developing romance but when it's paired up with a predictable story, it's painful to watch.

Episode 1 was kind of wholesome in a way but it really lacked originality. I'll try out a few more episodes and then decide whether to continue.

Not sure how it's related to the topic but I haven't completed Kimi ni Todoke yet to choose one. Toradora was pretty good.

well some people might think that about the anime, but maybe is best to actually watch the whole two seasons of the anime and then actually talk about what you thought about it

Well it may depend on people's taste but it is my favourite shoujo anime and it's manga is even better. I even had dreams at night of some manga panels when I read it.

same here bro , I just dropped it , cudn't vibe with it. I had seen or read so many romances that it started to feel like what u cud call q generic show like a generic shonen with a little bit of spice added to make it look different. So it's ok if u don't like it.I have kept it on hold as one day I might be in a mood to watch romance. Sometimes it also depends on ur mood , I sometimes want to watch a dark anime with blood and guts and sometimes I wud like to see comedy, another time I might want fantasy adventure n at the other slice of life.
I am totally ok with dropping shows that people liked very much , I have dropped many. It isn't necessary to watch it as the world has given it approval of being high, so u shud too.

If you don't like the vibes from the get go then you're probably better off with looking for another romance series that's more up your alley.

yes. it is at least worth giving it a shot (3 episode rule). There's a lot of drama and misunderstandings between the characters in the show, but it is all for the sake of building Sawako's character. Watching her grow and be wholesome was a journey I throughly n wholeheartedly enjoyed :).

Kare Kano might be a good pick. Or maybe Emma.

It’s a very subtle and quiet show. If you’re expecting some big drama, you won’t find it. Also, it’s super funny, unlike most shoujo shows.
Do I recommend it? Yes, with all my heart.
I remember watching it when I was a teenager fill with anxiety and depression, Kimi ni Todoke helped me a lot.
I love that show.

The show takes its time in developing things,if you're not into slow paced romance development then it's not for you, I personally like it because the characters are great and if the characters are loveable I can sit through 100 episodes of pure slice of life

If you are looking for something where the main couple gets together early the. This is not for you, it is a good anime overall and very heartwarming but the romance between the main couple moves sooooooooo slow, she doesn’t even realize she has feelings for kazehaya until like episode ten

It all comes down to what you like and look for in a romance anime. If you enjoy really wholesome, slow paced romance then this one is a definite must. Don’t go in expecting something super groundbreaking and unique with high expectations. The reason people love this show is because of how genuine and wholesome the romance and characters are. It’s nothing new per say, but it takes the classic elements of a great romance and drama and succeeds in what it sets out to do. It’s an extremely heartwarming anime that beautifully depicts what it’s like to fall in love.

Kimi ni Todoke by a MILE. I’ve found that people who’ve watched Toradora either love or hate it and I fall into the latter.

But I’d say it’s worth watching if you want to try a differently paced romance. It’s definitely a slow burn, has many frustrating moments (MANY viewers in S2 were getting annoyed about everything that was happening) but it ends in a satisfying way (thankfully).

In other words, it’s high in drama towards the end. Sawako’s character (the female MC) might piss you off a little, but the other characters are some of the best supporting characters in a romance. They genuinely have personality, are likeable, pretty much carry the show for me lol and make the humour of Kimi ni Todoke.

And i know watching it just because people rave about it isn’t a valid reason, but you should honestly find out for yourself whether it is. Although I use people’s reviews on MAL and the ratings to decide whether I should watch an anime now (really good reviews move anime’s further up on my watchlist), I’ve come to realise that some anime’s that have been well received by others (Oregairu, Toradora, Bunny Girl Senpai, Vivy, A Silent Voice etc.), I’ve not liked much or at all.

On the other hand, quite a few of my favourite anime’s aren’t rated as highly as I wish they were and some people don’t share the same opinion. Kimi ni Todoke for eg wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. I don’t understand people who say it’s the “best romance ever” or even “the sweetest”. I think I had too high expectations coming in, but I didn’t think it was a waste of time watching it.

But really, try a couple episodes yourself to see whether you’ll like it. If you’re the type of person to drop things, you might want to know for the sake of saving you that wasted time. But if you’re like me and can’t drop things because of wanting to see the show in its entirety, well just hang in there *-* Compared to the anime’s I listed that I don’t like, Kimi ni Todoke is slap bang in the middle of love and hate for me. (S2 was the easiest for me to watch, I watched it in a whole day) (even though I did consider taking a break for a week in between because of how tired of the drama i was getting).
