I just ordered a Nikon D80 with the 18-135mm lens, and was wondering what equipment you have to take pictures with.

i have an eos 400d with a Tamron AF 18-250 mm Di-II lens, it's good but doesn't have an image stabilization. i also have a UV filter, not really needed, i just use this so that my lens won't have to deal much with the dust. hmmm.. what else.. a tripod perhaps? i had the velbon sherpa 600r but i haven't use this for photography yet.

i want to add an external flash on my wishlist, i realized that it's actually very useful.

YOU GUYS AND YOUR SLR'S. EXCUSE ME, BUT I MUST GO KILL MYSELF. I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSCT33 and there is something wrong with it at the moment, I need to take it in to get repaired. One day I'll be rich and buy myself a Nikon D50 or something along those lines.

don't worry guys

it's not about the camera but the photographer who took it and everyone acknowledges your work even using a limited a point and shoot.

i've seen your photos at the other thread and it's way better than ours with dslr. keep shooting

You've reminded me of this great quote that I read a few years back and love -

"It's not the camera which takes the picture, it's the eye. You could have the most modern camera and not see the picture possibilities. I see picture possibilities in many things. I see pictures all the time. I think like this." - Alfred Eisenstaedt

Only black and white 400 Kodak film 3 years ago when I had just gotten into SLR.

I have a Canon Rebel XTi...it's about a year old now, but it's my baby. X) Got a nice macro lens for Christmas, and I'm hoping to get a decent telephoto soon, too.

I also have a couple point-and-shoot digitals and an old T70 that, sadly, doesn't see much action anymore.

I don't have manual cameras and/or SLRs. I only have a digital automatic Kodak C340. It would be a waste of money to buy good camera when I am the amateur of all amateurs! I am still learning.

It would be great then if some of you more experienced people will share some tips on photography.

My camera is a Casio Exilim Z110.

It's a simple point and shoot digital camera that I bought in 2006.
Up until last month, it didn't have a bag so it has many scratches now... XD
It was my first camera... and I love it <3 and I named it "Ami"

I have a few questions for you guys and would really appreciate any feedback on this^^ So I have been thinking lots lately about getting a new camera and i would like to buy my first DSLR. I have never used an SLR camera before so this will be my first time using it. My questions are: Do you think the Nikon D40 would be a good buy for a first DSLR camera or should i start with the D80? I've heard that it's better to start with the D40 because it's really easy to use, and i don't really want to spend tons of money for my first DSLR, so do you think I'd be happy with the D40 if i got it?

I think you would get really happy with a d40. I doubt that you will see much difference in the pictures whether you shoot it with a d40 or a d80, only if you go pixel peeping, or if you like to crop your pictures a lot. The only reason to get a d80 over the d40 is the ergonomics and the possibility of using older lenses on it and some of the built in features, it might also be faster and a bit better in focus speed. If you can find a d40x or a d40 for an affordable price get it - I'm sure you'll get happy.

I've had my Canon PowerShot S5 IS for more than a year now and I still like it a lot. The way the LCD can be rotated and placed pretty much however I want it is a big plus. It also has great video recording for a regular camera from that time. I have extended the functionality with some add-on lenses and stuff which allows me greater flexibility for a not too high cost (read: without having to go DSLR). ^^

The successors are out in stores now with improved zoom, better LCD, better sensor, full-HD video, and more, but I can't say that they are worth switching up to at the moment. I'm still learning my camera and am improving my photography little by little. :)
